No, I’m from the Philippines. I’ve emailed them before, last year. Just asking for help because I don’t know how to discern properly. I don’t even know the word “discern” and many other things regarding religious life. I don’t know who I am going to talk to so my last resort (which took all of my courage) is to just email them.

Then I found this forum, and is such a blessing to be here. 🙂
Have you considered speaking to a Catholic priest about your situation? You might benefit from spiritual direction. You can talk to a priest, Brother, Sister, or Deacon about religious life. Discerning is difficult enough, and it’s hard to do it alone. Sure, this forum could help you, but it would be even better to find someone who you can talk to personally. 🙂

I’ll look up orders in the Philippines, if you would like, but I think you need to figure out the different spiritualities in the Church, and where you fit in. These are some really important questions to ask yourself, when you feel it’s time:

-What spirituality am I drawn to? (Carmelite, Benedictine, Dominican, etc.)
-Am I drawn to the cloister, or to a balance of active and contemplative life?
-Am I called in my country, or is God gently tugging at my heart to look at an order out of the country?
-Am I called to be a missionary?
-What do I feel called to devote my life to? Just prayer? Or perhaps, healthcare, teaching, parish work, evangelization, etc?

If you have a little trouble discerning (which means searching or thinking about) between the spiritualities, there are some books that you could read about the different kinds. Also, if you are not sure about what you should do, it might benefit you to take a Myers-Briggs Personality Test. I took one when I started college, and I was amazed with the results. 😃 Please let me know if you need anything else. You’ll be in my prayers! God bless!

why dont you try going on vocation network and taking the free vocation survey? it matches you up to orders that match your interests and personality. and your location if you want.

I’ll think about these until it’s time. Perhaps time will tell and hopefully I can find someone to talk to personally. Discerning alone really rack my brain. 😃 Thanks so much CarmeliteGirl. God Bless you too! 🙂

By the way, do you live in dorchester, MA?

And, no, I live in Florida! 👍

Hi! I have a sort- of dilemma.

My dad wants to send me to this REALLY expensive high school. My sisters have already been accepted so I’m sort of automatically in. The problem is it’s so expensive we’re making serious changes in our lifestyle. But I want to be a nun. So why waste that kind of money when I’m not going to be making money or having a career? But I don’t want to tell him I want to be a nun. He’s not Catholic. What do I do? :o

Ask the Holy Family’s guidance in this. If you can remember to do so, ask the Infant Jesus every hour for nine hours on one day what you need to do. Obedience to your father may be more edifying than anything else.

HTH.

Blessings,
Cloisters

My godness… Well these are very important questions, and it’s hard for me to answer…⭕( How to know what we are made for?
Maybe as soon as I’ll get a job… and finish with my studies.

At the moment, I stick at one spirituality, one order, one monastery and I can’t do otherwise.
Maybe because I’m growing spiritually there. It’s like the “family” I’ve never had before, because I was educated as a pagan. So I need time, I bet. 😊

Hello,

I’m currently discerning whether the priesthood is right for me and I have a few questions.

Will I be able to do things outside the church that I enjoy? Like watch movies, play basketball etc.?

If don’t want to be a parish priest, what else can I do?

Thank you and God bless.

Will I be able to do things outside the church that I enjoy? Like watch movies, play basketball etc.? If you are a parish priest, you might have some days off to do that kind of think. If you don’t become a parish priest then I think it depends on what order you join.

If don’t want to be a parish priest, what else can I do?
There are many different orders to consider. They ways that I have been taught to discern is consider what things you like to do, and or what type of prayer you are attracted to.

I hope this helps and may God bless you as you try to hear Him.

Thank you and God bless.

Christ is risen from the dead, by death He conquered death and to those in the graves He granted life.

I am sixteen and am going to be a nun. I was hoping to “meet” more people my age who are considering a vocation to religious life.

Do what you want to do but always enter something where there is an option of getting out (like divorce).

Hello and may God give you abundant blessings. I have 2 links in my signature, click the second link, it should help you out. It will give you orders that match your needs and personality.

(Edited)

First of all, I believe that divorce is wrong because when you get married (particularly if you get married in the Catholic Church) you are saying you will do it for life, NOT just when it’s easy. It should only be done in the case of abuse and even then you are not allowed to remarry because you are still pledged to each other NO MATTER WHAT! Second, why would I want to get out? If I have spent from the time I was old enough to think about it to after college and I still KNOW that God is calling me to this, why would I want out? That doesn’t even make any sense at all to me. I’m not trying to be snitty or mean, I just want to give you my view on it.

Hello fellow religious life discerners!

Okay I guess I have passed my teenage years but I’m 20. I don’t many people who are going to be either a Sister or Nun.

By the way: you are all welcome to join my “Discerning Religious Life” group.

I made it so that those of us can share our experiences and ask each other questions and so on…

Katie
