Teenager Crosses South America on Foot to See Pope

It is a nice story anyways but the title is misleading. Hitchhiking is not traveling on foot.
 
It’s a really nice story, but I really worry about the way he made his family feel. While he probably had a very eye-opening journey and it has changed his life, his poor family must have been worried sick back home.

I am very glad to hear he made it safely to World Youth Day and I am glad he had some monks to travel with on the way. I do hope that someone gave him a hot meal, shower, fresh clothes, and some money so he won’t have to hitchhike home. The poor guy must be exhausted!

Actually, it is. You can only go as far as the driver can take you and then you walk again. You never know when you’re next ride will come along.

They were not monks. They were our friars. They arrived with bloody feet. They had walked and hitchhiked from Boston to Rio. They had no money to go. They left the convent with one change of underwear, breviary, rosary, and $25.00 each. They will be walking back to Boston.
I do hope that someone gave him a hot meal, shower, fresh clothes, and some money so he won’t have to hitchhike home. The poor guy must be exhausted!

Franciscan brothers gave him a place to stay across the street from the beach at one of our schools. He sounds like a good candidate for the Franciscan renewal (not the same as the Franciscans of the Renewal), though they are part of the renewal movement.

My friend, I hitchhiked 10,000 miles in 6 mths criss crossing the US, and I would never dream of even insinuating to anyone that I crossed the US on foot. I’m not knocking the boy, but I get sick of the media sensationalizing things. That boy did NOT walk 1800+ miles.
