I get the “telestai means paid in full” argument tossed at me a lot. Now correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t this word have multiple meanings in the Greek determined by context? I had heard somewhere that it was, yes, used as an accounting term, but that it could sometimes be stamped and simply mean “finished” or “terminated” instead of “paid in full.” Does anybody know anything of this? I tried explaining the fourth cup idea, and I had the “it doesn’t mean ‘it is finished’ it means ‘paid in full’” statement tossed at me.
