Many bigoted people have speculated that the Pope would be anti-Christ because of Biblical references to the revived Roman empire the anti-Christ will arise from. But I’m of the opinion that the revived Roman empire is the European Union, not the Catholic Church.

I think the political office needed for the arrival of anti-Christ as been created. The E.U. has appointed a president for themselves. For the first time since the Roman Empire, one man holds political power over all of Europe. Whether the anti-Christ will prove to be the man occupying that office today, or somebody else who comes after him in the future, is anyone’s guess.
Hmmm… the EU is not based in Rome and is not an empire; otherwise, yep, it’s perfect as the restored Roman Empire:shrug:

The importance of the RRE in prophetic interpretation is that the original RE was the power having sway over Israel in our LORD’s day. Check the map: last time I checked, Israel was not an EU state, and there are no near-term prospects of them becoming one.

There have been tons of attempts to game Biblical prophecy in terms of current events. They have all failed. They will continue to fail, because HIS coming will hit like a “thief in the night.” It doth behoove us more to work off our Purgatory.

I was amused by how many different ideas and speculations people have about this mythical figure (the Antichrist) in the history of the world.
The Bible really does not say anything specific about where the Antichrist will come from. Many Bible scholars speculate that the antichrist is an institution; others believe he is a man. Some believe that the word is a figure of speech. I tend not to believe the title is a figure of speech or an institution. Those of us who believe he is a man say he will come from a confederacy of ten nations and/or a reborn Roman empire (Daniel 7:24-25; Revelation 17:7). Others see him as having to be a Jew in order to claim to be the Messiah. It is all just speculation since the Bible does not specifically say where the Antichrist will come from (man or institution) or (if a man) what race he will be. One day, the Antichrist will be revealed.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 tells us how we will recognize the Antichrist: “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”

It is likely that most people who are alive when the Antichrist is revealed will be very surprised at his identity. The Antichrist may or may not be alive today. We should not speculate about who or what the Antichrist is. We should put the speculations behind us and focus on what the Bible actually says about the Antichrist. Revelation 13:5-8 declares, “The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.”

Its mentioned in the book of Daniel.

I agree with the context of this post. 👍

However, as history moves on it is ironic that speculation about the antichrist contines on and on in world history.

Its basis is found in the Gospels of St. John the Theologian.

two to my knowledge. and they have already passed. antiochus epiphenus, who was prophesied in daniel. you can read his story in macabees. nero who was written about in revelation, who is also dead. i simply think we are waiting now for a time of trouble that has never before been seen, and never again will be. it can happen at any time. and does not necessarily have to be 7 years in duration. could their be a future figure who dominates the globe? possibly, though i doubt it. there are a couple of events that i could see trigger this time of jacobs trouble, but i wont get into them here. not Church dogma, just my thoughts. Peace 🙂
What’s up with the Left Behind Series? People disappearing into thin air, cars driving themselves, etc?🙂

Why do you say mythical figure? He is that which is against Christ and that denieth the Father and the Son.
1 John 2:18, 1 John 2:22 , 1 John 4:3 ,2 John 1:7 John tells us his nature and that many will come.We see the fate of the last is in Revelation 19:20 .

The Antichrist will build up a huge empire that will only last a short while. Then Jesus will come back for his people. Read Daniel it sums it up nicely.

The Pope is the very Antichrist. That is a judgment based on scripture not bigotry (i.e., 2 Thess. 2:3-12; 1 John 2:18). However, scripture does not reveal whether the Pope will continue to be the Antichrist in the future. The Lord may grant him grace to repent of his false teachings and to reform the Catholic Church.

In addition to Nero and Rome being the beast rising out of the sea (Rev 13:1), there is a minor (but growing) preterist view that the Sanhedrin represents the beast rising out of the earth (Rev 13:11).

What I’m saying is as history continues people always speculate and invent myths about the antichrist.

yes! the end of the world is coming. so buy my books, and make me a multi millionaire! lol! 😉 peace 🙂

actually daniel covers only up till the time of Christ. it covers the period of alexander the greats empire, and the roman empire. even Jesus stated the prophets of the o.t. prophesied up to his first coming. re read daniel. and also read 1rst maccabees, and see the parallels. it sums it up nicely. 😉 peace 🙂

There is no denial that the antichrist will kill Christians. Nero was an antichrist, no doubt to many historians. There will be another. John says it best, when he speaks of history will repeat itself. Based on his own personal experience with Nero,he sees into the future a man like Nero, who was and there will become another.
Rev.17:8 The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present.

Simon Magus, the Samaritan and magician of the book of Acts, is the first anti-christ of the church age. According to Justin Martyr and Irenaeus, the apostle Peter confronted Simon Magus in Rome and defeated him there in a spirtual contest of sorts.

Emperor Nero died in 68 AD and was a type of anti-christ who put to death many Christians. He is thought to have somewhat fulfilled Revelation 13 in the days of John. Bishop Commodianus of North Africa (240 AD) believed that Nero would be raised from hell in the last days as the antichrist to be.

Shimon Bar Kosiba claimed to be the Messiah after being approved and renamed Bar Kochba (son of the Star) by Rabbi Akiba. He led the Jewish rebellion against the Roman Empire and persecuted Jewish Christians who would not follow him. Emperor Hadrian crushed this revolt in 135 AD and renamed the territory of Judea as Syria Palestina for which it was called Palestine up to 1948.

Our Lord Jesus Christ refers to the prophet Daniel and the antichrist in Matthew 24:15-16. Since neither Simon Magus, nor Nero, nor Bar Kochba set up the abomination of desolation in the holy place which the apostle Paul speaks of in 2 Thess. 2:4, it can be said that Revelation 13 has not been fulfilled, nor has 2 Thess.2:4.

Irenaeus, Hippolytus and Tertullian post the diaspora of the Jews in 135 AD., all believed that 2 Thess.2:4 is yet to be fulfilled.(Emperor Caligula attempted to defile the temple in Jerusalem, but his orders were not followed.)

Sun Myung Moon of the worldwide Unification Church claims to be the second coming of Messiah.

I concur with our Lord Jesus Christ, the apostle Paul, Irenaeus, Hippolytus and Tertullian.

Most of all, we all must be prepared for the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, for no one knows the day or the hour. We must have faith when he returns, we must be living in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There very well be a final fulfillment of the desolation of abomination, but Rome certainly initially fulfilled it when the Temple was utterly destroyed in 70 A.D.

If that happened in 70 A.D. why are people still speculating and mythologizing . .? (Making outrageous claims) + other stuff

here are two possible theories. 1: people relying on private interpretation without a governing body, to properly interpret these hard to understand scriptures. 2: they want to sell a book, or books.😃 im a former baptist, and a former premillinialist dispinsationalist, so i used to buy into all this stuff. 100 reasons gorbechev is the anti christ, the late great planet earth, count down to armagheddon etc. etc. etc. one thing some of my Godly Catholic brothers and sisters have taught me, is that for every verse of prophecy you read, you should read 2 verses about love for Christ, and your fellow man. and how to properly served in the kingdom. then, put them into practice. ie. vollunteering. visiting the shutins, or people in nursing homes. feeding the hungry at a mission. when your doing these things, you really dont have time to play pin the tail on the anti christ. 😛 peace 🙂
