flip flops
No, I understood you found flip flops to be uncomfortable. What I meant was what ABOUT them do you find so uncomfortable? To me, it is like going barefoot, and I don’t even feel them.

I like them because nothing binds the sides of my feet, nothing rubs the heel, and they don’t give me blisters. My feet don’t sweat when I wear them; therefore, my feet don’t smell when I remove them. I love them!

Oh sorry-😊

I can’t stand having the thong thingy between my toes- it hurts!

Oh. See, I can’t even feel it! 🤷 Of course, I’ve worn these shoes for my whole life, and I’m in my 40s now. I wear them the minute is warm enough in spring, and do not put on tennis shoes until snow flies!😃 I hear docs say it is bad for your feet, but I have no foot problems, except when I wear enclosed shoes. Then I get callouses and blisters and bad foot odor. That is with all kinds of shoes. I hate other shoes!

People who are accustomed to shoes get callouses and blisters when we don’t wear shoes.

Perhaps a pair of well crafted (leather) and well fitted shoes would make a difference for you (not that you seem interested). Clean feet don’t smell because of shoes; there may be an unrelated cause.

Guess what I did??? I went out and bought a pair of fake crocs… but they weren’t the clog looking type… they actually looked cute with jeans or shorts…even wore them with a skirt on Sunday to mass…
I can’t STAND the look of those clunky clogy looking Crocs, but THESE are TOTALLY CUTE!!! 😉

I’ve 43 and I would buy these!

And just for the record, (and since I don’t know you;) )
I think Crocs are hideous.
🤷
(But I’d never tell you that in person)

An article on fashion is meant to give fashion advice (for people who care about those things) and meant to be informative for people who don’t so you know what the rest of us are thinking. Good fashion is meant to help people feel selfconfident in any situation. If you look well put together, you will feel better about yourself, and better able to perform under any situation. Well put together doesn’t need to be uncomfortably or expensively fashioned, it just means that you look neat and organized, like you’ve “got it together”. Which, hopefully by 40, every woman should.

If you really don’t care what people think of you, then by all means wear whatever you like. However, no matter what you care about, everyone makes judgements about people and the way they look. That is just a fact. Whether they are dressed sl**ty, or sloppy, or frompy, or goth, or preppy, or whatever. No need to be offended by this, it is just a fact of life.

The article is probably pointing out that as comfortable and practicle as CROCS may be, to some, they look like clown shoes and the older you get, looking like a clown tends to be less and less appropriate. I personally can not stand CROCS, and think that no one over the age of 4 should wear them, much less 40, but that is just me.

Regarding a backpack, I’ve seen beautiful backpack style handbags (the Louis Vuitton one comes to mind, but they also sell beautiful more moderately priced ones, like GUESS or Liz Clairborne). To me these seem practicle and appropriate at any age. However, wearing a backpack like you would to go hiking is kind of school girlish. A smart handbag gives the impression that you are organized and have it all together. A backpack looks like you may have too much on your plate, and not enough time to organize everything (which may be true – but that’s the impression it gives). At 40, it would make me feel very self conscious to plop a huge backpack down at a counter and spend several minutes digging through everything to find what I’m looking for.

So fashion tips, are to help those of us who would like to give the most positive impression possible and also to feel comfortable and confident in any situation.

Well said!

I’ll lend you my flak vest; you are likely to need it.

My feet are clean when they go in shoes in the winter. When they come out, they smell. When my clean feet go in flip flops, they don’t smell. I think it is the whole air and staying dry thing.

I will stick to flip flops and then the $20 Target tennis shoes for winter. I have paid big money several times in my younger years to get well fitted shoes, and I liked them no better than the cheap shoes. So I will stick to cheap shoes! Besides, when they start to smell bad, I don’t feel bad about throwing them away and buying new pair!

For the record, and so you don’t feel like a weirdo, my feet smell too…I believe everyone’s do. I think feet are like underarms, they sweat. I guess some people tend to sweat more than others. Anyway, bacteria grows in the sweat, and causes the smell.

A trick my ski instructor taught me was to put deodorant on my feet and they won’t sweat (good for snow skiing so they won’t be cold) but also good so they won’t stink and ruin a perfectly good pair of shoes.

Hose or socks also helps because it adds a layer of air which dries the sweat before bacteria can grow.

Also, real leather shoes will make your feet stink less since the natural material allows air to circulate. Fake synthetic pleather (like what is found on cheap shoes) doesn’t let air in, so your feet will sweat / stink more…kinda like wrapping your midsection in cellophane paper to make it sweat.

(To avoid the smell, I wear high heeled sandals all the time, not flip flops though 🤷 )

Anyway, Phemie… I was gonna say at least you can have your hems done but what to do when there isn’t enough fabric to let them down???
Let’s both buy the same thing and I’ll send you the excess that I have to cut off mine.😃

I actually looked at those while out shopping this afternoon and found them way too clunky. Took me back to the shoes I wore in the mid 70s – no thanks.

Had to be content with a couple of pairs of Nikes. Since the last time I’d bough sneakers was 2001, I thought I was due.
