Sometimes sadness comes in swings and we need to bear through them, but if you are feeling depressed for long periods of time it would be good for you to seek help. Depression is an illness, and if left untreated it may not get better on its own. If this is the case, I would recommend talking with your priest about this, or with your doctor, in order to determine what kind of support you will need to help you. Remember, we can’t be strong of our own accord, we are like grass blown by the wind, our strength is in the Lord. One psalm I have always found comforting during times when I feel overwhelmed with sadness is Psalm 88:

Lord my God, I call for help all day, I weep to you all night; may my prayer reach you hear my cries for help…

May God bless you and give you strength, may the Mother of God comfort and protect you!

Yes. The balm for sadness is love. People who love you, God who loves you. Even when the rest of us muck it up, Jesus is there for you, our dear Shepherd. Whatever you’re going through, whatever rejection or disappointment or regret or even just a non-specific weariness, he’s been there, and he chose to go there so he could fetch the likes of us, and bring us home on his shoulders.

Sometimes medications are needed, too, it is accepting a healing compassion to be willing to use them when they’re needed, but even those need to come via someone who lets you know that your value far outweighs the sorrows this life can bring.

The Psalms are good, too. I had this passage taped on my bathroom mirror for a long time:

If the LORD were not my help,
I would long have been silent in the grave.
When I say, “My foot is slipping,”
your mercy, LORD, holds me up
When cares increase within me,
your comfort gives me joy.
Psalm 94:17-19

There is this one, too:
“All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for your selves.
For my yoke is easy,
and my burden light.” Matt. 11:27-30

I do my best to pray every day for those who are lonely and / or depressed…I will think especially of you as I do. God Bless your dear heart.

God bless you, dear soul. Place yourself in the loving arms of Our Blessed Mother. She is an amazing protector and consoler. Because her usual response, is to take us directly to the Heart of Jesus. And there, you will find comfort.

Praying for you. 🙂

I am praying for you! I completely understand depression & anxiety.

I went thru a very difficult depression about 6 months ago.
After some therapy, medication & understanding how my mind works, I am so much better!

It will get better! If you need to talk to someone please PM me 🙂
