I feel quite low.
I’m sorry. It’s not a pleasant thing, is it? I will say a prayer for you tonight, maybe even right now.I feel quite low.
Yes. The balm for sadness is love. People who love you, God who loves you. Even when the rest of us muck it up, Jesus is there for you, our dear Shepherd. Whatever you’re going through, whatever rejection or disappointment or regret or even just a non-specific weariness, he’s been there, and he chose to go there so he could fetch the likes of us, and bring us home on his shoulders.Sometimes sadness comes in swings and we need to bear through them, but if you are feeling depressed for long periods of time it would be good for you to seek help. Depression is an illness, and if left untreated it may not get better on its own. If this is the case, I would recommend talking with your priest about this, or with your doctor, in order to determine what kind of support you will need to help you. Remember, we can’t be strong of our own accord, we are like grass blown by the wind, our strength is in the Lord. One psalm I have always found comforting during times when I feel overwhelmed with sadness is Psalm 88:
Lord my God, I call for help all day, I weep to you all night; may my prayer reach you hear my cries for help…
May God bless you and give you strength, may the Mother of God comfort and protect you!
