Terrorism and extremism are alien to Islam. We do agree with you that these phenomena are un-Islamic, and all religions and systems suffer from them. Muslims precede others in calling for tolerance, dialogue, peace, justice, and moderation. The Qur’an calls Muslims “moderate people,” so moderation is the right course that mainstream Muslims follow.

Elaborating on Islam’s stance of terrorism and extremism, the Fiqh Council of North America issued the following fatwa:
The Fiqh Council of North America wishes to reaffirm Islam’s absolute condemnation of terrorism and religious extremism.
Islam strictly condemns religious extremism and the use of violence against innocent lives.

There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism. Targeting civilians’ life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram (forbidden) and those who commit these barbaric acts are criminals, not “martyrs.”

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states: (Whoever kills a person [unjustly] … it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind )(Al-Ma’idah 5:32).

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said there is no excuse for committing unjust acts: “Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well, and that if they do wrong you will do wrong to them. Instead, accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong (even) if they do evil” (At-Tirmidhi).

God mandates moderation in faith and in all aspects of life when He states in the Qur’an: (We made you to be a community of the middle way, so that (with the example of your lives) you might bear witness to the truth before all mankind ) (Al-Baqarah 2:143).

In another verse, God explains our duties as human beings when He Almighty says: (Let there arise from among you a band of people who invite to righteousness, and enjoin good and forbid evil ) (Aal `Imran 3:104).

Islam teaches us to act in a caring manner to all of God’s creation. Prophet Muhammad, who is described in the Qur’an as “a mercy to the worlds” said, “All creation is the family of God, and the person most beloved by God (is the one) who is kind and caring toward His family.”

In the light of the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah we clearly and strongly state:
  1. All acts of terrorism targeting civilians are haram (forbidden) in Islam.
  2. It is haram for a Muslim to cooperate with any individual or group that is involved in any act of terrorism or violence.
  3. It is the civic and religious duty of Muslims to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to protect the lives of all civilians.
We issue this fatwa following the guidance of our scripture, the Qur’an, and the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We urge all people to resolve all conflicts in just and peaceful manners.
We pray for the defeat of extremism and terrorism. We pray for the safety and security of our country, the United States, and its people. We pray for the safety and security of all inhabitants of our planet. We pray that interfaith harmony and cooperation prevail both in the United States and all around the globe.

It would be nice to be able to believe this. Unfortunately, when Islamic leader after leader; cleric after cleric, mob after mob, denounces and threatens the Pope for something he did not do, and which they know full well he did not do, and when not a single one comes out and says “Stop! This is wrong! This is sinful!” I cannot.

I will believe it when Muslims renounce Osama bin Laden and call for his death with the same intensity that they attacked the pope. How can we believe their religion has been “hijacked” when they act so passively toward terrorism?

Does patience renounce Al Quida, Islamic Jihad, Hezbullah, and Hamas?

It was encouraging to read this post. I look forward to seeing more such statements in the mass media.

The problem is that there is no central authority in Islam. You often see conflicting fatwas.

You dont see a problem if fatwas regarding killing and violence are conflicting? interesting.

Pluralism? As in some Muslims think it’s okay to kill the infidel and others only if they draw cartoons we don’t like? I can do without that kind of pluralism. I would suggest Islam needs reform to rid itself of violence completely. A fatwa against fatwas.

The white supremacists here in Chicago march every year to proclaim their ignorance and their " true christian" attitude. What is so nice about other christians is they counter neo-nazis march with thier own march, telling the world that we christians do not condon that kind of christianity.
A challange to moderate muslims… show to us that “terrorism is alien to Islam” by publicly opposing this terrorist. Do your own counter march and I assure you christians will be marching with you against these terrorists.

Have you guys seen this clssic movie “El Cid”. That movie shows that muslims and christians can work together to defeat satan. The movie is about the story of Rodrigo of Vibar, a legend in Spain.

Of course it is, and the fact that if you were to analyze almost any conflict in the world there is a good chance that one of the two sides fighting is Islamic is just a coincidence.

I disagree.

I think that when Mohammed appointed Saad iben Moaz to decide the fate of the third Jewish tribe, that amounted to ethnic cleansing, if not specifically “terrorism”. Saad ruled that all Bani Qurayza’s men should be beheaded, that the women and children should be sold as slaves, and that all their property should be divided among the Muslims. Trenches were dug in the bazaar of Medina for disposal of the nine hundred Jewish bodies whom Mohammed had spent the night slaughtering. (See Ibn Hisham: The Prophet’s biography; vol. 2 pages 40 & 41)

Muslims have been taught not to question Allah and his Apostle. They are ordered to accept and practice their sayings regardless of how irrational they may sound. They were also taught to react violently toward anyone who questioned or criticized Allah or Mohammed.

Mohammed was a prime example of this to his followers; he had no tolerance for anyone who uttered the slightest insult about him. The poetess, Asmaa bint Marwan, was killed for uttering a few verses of poetry against Mohammed. A Muslim assassin, acting on Mohammed’s orders, crept in at night to the women’s bed, while her suckling baby was attached to her breast. The man plucked the baby from her breast and then plunged his sword into her abdomen.

Another example was Abu Afak, an old man, who was murdered for composing poetry critical of the Prophet.

Somebody counted the times the word “kill” and other words derived from it that appeared in the Quran and Hadith and found them to be about 24,400 times.

I’m glad to see a Muslim posting this… now send it in to Al-Jazeera and demand them read it… but thank you for posting. 🙂

Terrorism is alien to Christianity. I would like to invite you to please read the New Testament. Can I share the beauty of the “Sermon on the Mount” with you?

Matthew Chapter 5

Christ’s sermon upon the mount. The eight beatitudes.

5:1.
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him.

5:2. And opening his mouth he taught them, saying:

**5:3. **Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

**5:4. **Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.

**5:5. **Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

**5:6. **Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.

**5:7. **Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

**5:8. **Blessed are the clean of heart: they shall see God.

5:9. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

**5:10. **Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

5:11. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:

5:12. Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

But all that doesn’t stop the bombing of clinics where doctor’s perform abortions. The original poster just set forth his beliefs why Koran denounces terrorism. How is that different?

I don’t recall ever hearing of a fatwa being issued against any person or organisation for sponsoring terrorist acts.

ON THE eve of the anniversary of mainland Europe’s bloodiest terrorist attack, the Spanish Islamic Commission issued a fatwa yesterday against Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader. timesonline.co.uk/article/0,3-1519995,00.html

American Muslim scholars who interpret religious law for their community issued an edict Thursday condemning terrorism against civilians in response to the wave of deadly attacks in Britain and other countries. msnbc.msn.com/id/8740980/

Oh Really? So therefore, those fatwas must not exist. And they surely must not exist because YOU have not seen them. :banghead: (sarcasm intended).

didymus, the sad reality is that you pretty much represent and sum up the overall ignorance of the average American. “if you haven’t seen it, it must not exist.” Do you realize the audacity and even stupidity of that statement?

You merely need to search your favorite search engine for islam terrorism fatwa to find several links against terrorism. And you can even search this board for “fatwa terrorism” and search by my username. I have posted, SEVERAL TIMES, a listing of fatwas from the MOST WELL KNOWN scholars of our times. Compare that to the fact that you will NOT find a single fatwa by a KNOWN SAUDI SCHOLAR, or any KNOWN SCHOLAR. Rather, you will only find those fatwas by various people, who are UNKNOWN, who have NO KNOWLEDGE, AND WHO THE MEDIA DECLARE AS SCHOLARS.

But will you read them and accept them? Who knows. If you are like the typical American, it frankly doesn’t matter if you read them or not, because at the end of the day, you will go pick some fatwa made by some NO-NAME IDIOT, who is NOT a scholar of Islam, and you will say, “see, THIS GUY says that you should do acts of terror against the ‘infidels’.”

Thread title is more appropriate if ‘Terrorism is ally to Islam’

Stop your taqiyah here jcaz and ppatience. We sick of it.

And I’m sick of your ignorance and hatred. So be it.

But good thing you follow the way of Jesus in your actions in dealing with non-Christians on forums!!!
