Yes, it’s a red flag. There were similar grumbings about the TTC. But once the presidential campaign gets rolling $6K is going to sound like pennies compared to the money that will be thrown around. 🤷

(and when you think about it, $6K from a huge corporation isn’t that much of a contribution)
Yeah, well, by comparison, how much did Obama, Gore, and Clinton collect in campaign contributions from the Chinese government?

Welcome to politics. 👍
Let’s see … who was it who said: “Politics ain’t beanbag.”

And besides, Obama just makes it sooo easy. One day Hugo Chavez does it in Venezuela and the next day Obama tries to do it here. And then he wonders why he gets so much flak.

Ann Richards, a Texan, said of George Bush II, “he cain’t hep it; he’s got a silver foot in his mouth”.

strongly disagree gilliam with your first post about american exceptionalism. That right there is a sin. Such false pride in this fallen nation surpasses devotion to God the Father. There is not a single freedom found here that can’t be attained in most of western europe. And while I can’t quote anything I wouldn’t doubt that switzerland is the most free country in this world. America has a bloody history of subjugation. Americans slaughtered the indians when they got here, enslaved the africans but forget about the history we all know that. Look at today. While americans are calling their soldiers “heroes” these same men are overseas fighting a war that goes against what Christ taught us. America bloodies its hands with countless innocent lives in the name of “freedom”. Shady intel on a single mid level terrorist in the area, whats the american response? Predator strike. 24 civilians dead. Whoops thats war I guess. America has NO right to pretend its better than everyone else when it continues to perpetuate such horrid bloodshed and malice throughout the world. I was four years in the army as a 13 bravo cannon crewmember (artillery for all you civvies) It is my deep love for Christ that has me abandoning this country to its fate and moving out of country to live a Catholic life.
Makes it even more mysterious why so many people want to come here so badly that they risk life and limb to do so.

You’re probably right - most won’t be too worried that Merck gave $6,000 in campaign contributions to him or that one of Perry’s former employees wound up working for Merck. but to me, it’s just another red flag to beware of the man.
How much did Merck’s people give to other politicians?

Mysterious? Do you know how bad off they have it in Mexico and Central America? You don’t see Frenchmen or Spaniards or Scandanavians rushing to come here.

OK, now this is kinda cute:

Blast from Perry’s Past: Rick Perry Signs 1966 Yearbook of Paint Creek Classmate

WALCOTT, IOWA - Rick Perry ran into a familiar face at his event in Walcott, Iowa Tuesday when a classmate from Paint Creek asked him to sign their 1966 yearbook. Becky Roe from Cole Valley, Illinois came to the event at Iowa 80 to ask the presidential candidate to sign his autograph next to his picture, and Perry obliged.

That is so cool!

Are there any Republicans who are on the side of main-stream Science? Seriously. 😦
Climate change isn’t the only science that Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has doubts about.
The Texas governor told a boy in New Hampshire Thursday that evolution was also questionable.
“You know, it’s a theory that’s out there,” Perry replied. “It’s got some gaps in it. In Texas, we teach both creationism and evolution in our schools. Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one is right.”
“How old do you think the Earth is?” the boy had asked earlier.
“You know what? I don’t have any idea,” Perry said. “I know it’s pretty old. So, it goes back a long, long way. I’m not sure anybody actually knows completely and absolutely how long the Earth is.”…

It’s funny how they pick and choose which science to ignore. Why does no one question the theory of gravity when in the Bible a man is able to stop the sun in the sky? God may have started the the universe, but there’s no doubt that it has rules and is dictated by natural processes. The Bible is not a science book.

Here’s a little more background on Perry and Merck:

Perry has ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perry’s former chief of staff. His current chief of staff’s mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.

Yes, I read this too along with the other red-flag concerns of this candidate. I don’t think anyone is interested. I wouldn’t be surprised if Perry gets the nomination because we are so anxious to overlook those things that should give us pause.

Right. Republicans would have rather jumped off a cliff rather than vote for alGore, but I guess his campaign manager would be an excellent nominee.

Rick Perry = Barack Obama = George W. Bush. The “establishment”.
Yup. The Democrats and Republicans do a fantastic job of convincing they stand for different things. But when the rubber meets the road, they are two sides of the same coin. I mean, the whole housing bubble was created by a collusion of the Fed, the mortgage banking industry, the investment banking industry (Goldman Sachs, et al) Congress, and the Secretary of the Treasury under George Bush 2 and the Republican Congress.

You’re right about that. I found out the other day Goldman Sachs gave President Obama and my Republican Representative (et al) campaign “donations.”

A “bought Congress” is not in the Constitution.

So, do you think people like John Hancock didn’t do any sort of lobbying? Business leaders are always going to have influence on a legislative body. They are going to be very vocal and financially supportive (or not) depending on whether the policies you favor will benefit them. If you can show an example of quid quo pro, then that is a different situation.
