The article just said he was requested to and spoke at the event. As a successful governor, I could see why he was invited. They like successful people to speak at the event. That is not unusual. They don’t want losers speaking there. So, what is the issue? (I know what the issue is for Jones, but what is your beef about this to cause you not to vote for Perry?) Also not sure what this has to do with NAFTA
More will come out about this, I am sure during the campaign. Yes, he was speaking about the NAFTA Superhighway project that he was fighting for, that would make trade easier between Mexico, US, and Canada. I am not into the far out conspiracies of Alex Jones, but the Bilderbergers? I certainly do not trust a group that is sworn to secrecy and way into globalization. (of which they are NOT so secretive about) Realizing that we are already well on our way, who wants to accelerate it? Others might have a different take on this. Me? Nope, I don’t trust that group. This highway project he was fighting for would have had hidden taxes number one, and left our borders open number two, not to mention what it might do to our economy, (that isn’t already done) I will vote ANYONE but Obama, but for now, until more info comes out, I’m not sure I trust him.

We will see how this pans out…long way to go in the campaign. For now, I think I’ll go Bachman…actually if Ron Paul had a chance of getting anywhere, I might even go with him.

Perry, Santorum, Gingrich, or (holds nose a bit) Romney,

I’d would vote for the 1st 3 with a huge smile on my face.
Didn’t watch the “debate” … but how did Romney explain away “Romney-care” in Massachusetts?

And has Romney “softened” his position on man-made global warming?

There is no NAFTA Superhighway Project that Perry was or is fighting for. My understanding is that he was interested in improving highways inside of Texas in a project called the Trans-Texas Corridor. It wasn’t a highway to Canada.

Like I have already stated…this campaign is just beginning. There will no doubt be more on this. Eventually I expect the true story to emerge. It’s a wait and see. But yes, indeed, there are reports online about superhighway back a few years. And yes, indeed, from the Texas/Mexico boarder to the Minnesota/Canadian border.

I live in an area that is doing very well and this area of Texas don’t have the oil industry as the large part of the economy. We are protected mainly by lower taxes, no state income taxes and lowest possible regulation on our businesses, something Obama needs to learn.
Well I live in a state with little regulation, no state income tax and lower property taxes than Texas has, and the place is in the tank and has been for years.

I lived in Texas for years before the economy tanked and the oil industry affects the whole state. Just look back to the bust in the 1980s for an example of that.

I’d prefer Perry to Romney. But I’d vote for either over Obama.

Perry threatens Romney among second-choice

One of the key things to think about when handicapping a presidential nomination battle is not just who is ahead at the moment, but who is most likely to benefit once the field inevitably narrows down and key Republicans begin making endorsements. On that score, Texas Gov. Rick Perry would seem to be a huge threat to Mitt Romney.

If Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is forced to drop out at one point in the race, it seems clear that Perry would be in the better position to pick up support among her Tea Party/social conservative constituency than Romney. You can make arguments both ways for where Herman Cain and Rick Santorum (both of who endorsed Romney in 2008) supporters may go. But none of those candidates, or Newt Gingrich or Jon Huntsman, have deep enough support to make a huge difference when exiting the race. That moves us to the current non-candidates.

Should Sarah Palin, at some point, decide against running, it’s much more likely that her fan base would fall back on Perry than that they would rally around Romney.

That’s a pretty good point. The health care thing is probably going to give Perry a significant edge over Romney in garnering conservative political support.

How’s Texas doing in education?
How’s Obama’s Leftist America doing in eduction? Oh yeah, that’s right, his folks are forcing sodomy propaganda, contraception, and abortion into our schools.

To talk of eduction in public schools of America today is moot. Unions undermine democracy, undermine a local or state government from making good decisions based upon parental involvement and concern on the formation of their children into good citizens because the unions serve the teachers, not the students, and the unions are all leftist political organizations, organizing against our tax-dollars. So CMatt25, I know where you are trying to go with this, and just don’t.

I note the…“Abortion only for rape, incest, or maternal health. (Jun 2002)”. Why these exceptions?
Because as a Protestant, he doesn’t have as good catechesis as we do, I suppose. However, It is a great start, and at times we win this incrementally. I share your disappointment though, but if we could get America to even that point, we would be lightyears ahead of where we are now, and would be that much closer to ending it completely.

He ain’t a saint, he ain’t perfect, but I believe he is the most viable contender, and he has my $50/month campaign contribution. He will respect our Catholicity, and our health and human service institutions can continue to operate and practice the faith in the public sphere without attack from a hostile federal government.

Amen… The pro life community would be well served in taking the victories as we can get them.

He has my vote, my money and time as well.

Which state would that be?

How many of those jobs were minimum wage with few benefits? I’ve heard it said 40%.
I heard Gov. Perry speak about the job situation here in Texas. He spoke about the # of
jobs created. One border town in particular where the Mayor told him that they’d filled
x # of jobs and were quite happy; however, because of those jobs, many others had come
from other states hoping to find a job. As a result, the unemployment remained where it
had been! Texas has had an influx of new residents coming to live here, including doctors
and engineers. So all told, we are in better shape than most of the country.
The EPA has had some regs that they are foisting on Tx. Our Attorney General is fighting
them, but if they are implemented further, we will be losing more jobs in energy production.
And, don’t forget that Obama stopped a lot of offshore drilling, again, eliminating some
very well paying jobs.
I had a staunch democrat friend tell me that she is now in the Perry camp, due to his
calling for “The Response”. She said that she sees him as genuine in calling for this
prayer response and appreciates that he is unapologetically Christian.
Believe me, it almost bowled me over to hear her say this.
I’m in his camp, too. I love Bachman, Santorum, and Gingrich, but I don’t see that they
could get as far as Perry can (President Perry!) and I want Obama, Obamacare, etc
out.

Texas has the most Fortune 500 companies in the country. 58. More than NYC… More than California… anywhere.

lefties forget the avg wage is just that… AVERAGED throughout the entire massive state.

Looks pretty normal to me. Higher income in the cities… lower in the country.

President Perry!!

According to the article. She didn’t appear rattled. She appeared “phony.”
Yeah… I read it.

I was reading live blogs and they were saying she sounded off… and that Perry was right there … so that was the thinking.

I heard the speeches. But I haven’t heard enough of either of them to know if one was having a good day or not. I did like Perry’s speech better. But that may have just been a personal impression.

I have enjoyed both of Perry’s speeches yesterday and today. If he keeps it up at the debates, he will have the country’s attention in short order.

We all need to remember: no one pays attention to the race before Labor Day.

I liked Perry’s speech better too.
