Texas High School Student Told Rosary Is 'Gang Symbol'

If the student is wearing the rosary for simple jewelry … that’s wrong. And if she is not Catholic … that’s wrong

As a sacramental, it should be revered. Perhaps she does revere this, we don’t know. We should not and cannot judge her unless her motives for wearing this are known. I wear a crucifix around my neck at all times … is this any different?

Also, wearing rosaries goes back to medieval times. Many religious wore their rosaries.
 
When I was in high school–no, dinosaurs were not our mode of transportation–the wearing of blue jeans or other dark trousers and a white shirt of any kind was considered “gang-related”. At a neighboring school, anyone wearing a jacket with a fur or fake fur collar was suspected of gang ties. I’m glad they didn’t find out about the rosary in my pocket.|
 
I’m glad he is not able to wear a Rosary. They are NOT meant to be wore as jewelry. It is my understanding only Nuns can wear them as a necklace. I could be wrong.
