Just saw this on ABC News online:

Thou shalt have sex and lots of it — That’s the message one Texas reverend spread to his megachurch congregation today, as he challenged his married congregants to have sex daily for the next seven days as part of a “sexperiment.”
Uhh. . . okay. . .

ETA: I just saw the video that’s linked in that article, and ewww. EWW EWWW EWWW.

My husband and I are up for the challenge! Thanks be to God! 👍

Perhaps he just wants to increase his congregation the natural way? 😉 😃

But seriously - bringing a bed onto the pulpit? Just had a horrid flashback to the Monty Python film, ‘Meaning of Life’ - one of the scenes was about a school ‘sex-ed’ class that … well, I won’t say more :o

My dad’s a Methodist minister and one of his parishoners was talking about it this morning. She said if you put a bed behind that pulpit, I’ll leave! Of course I think that she was probably half joking, half not!😛

Ewww…

This guy sounds kind of… gross. “Sexperiment”? “sextacular”? “Sex, sex, sex”?

This is what happens when you invent your own church. No oversight whatsoever.

Gross.

Didn’t look at the link, but doesn’t Genesis 1:28 say the same thing?

Genesis 1:28 is a statement about sustainable agriculture and arithmetical mathematics.
Doesn’t it also support deep sea fishing and quail hunting? That is what my husband says…😉

Gross? God invented it, how could it be gross?

Exactly really though I think it would be good if more congregations were more open about talking about sex. It’s such a hush hush topic it seems and I donlt think that is really good especially since secular society certainly isn;t silent about the issue.

I think the OP’s point of posting this was to comment on the inappropriate way the pastor presented the topic.

Young said the ministry should be more actively involved in discussing the topic of sex and not shy away from it.
Well, we certainly don’t have that problem here on the forums…

I think we may have more of a problem with it in homilies. I’d like to hear a lot more of the Catholic teachings about sex, instead of having to look it up for myself. But I’m with that Methodist lady. I don’t want to see a bed up front! 👍

God bless us all with true chastity,

Ruthie

I don’t think that belongs in any church, but evanglical churches are pretty weird. They have power-point presentations instead of Mass. Thank heavens the Catholic Church isn’t like that!!

Doesn’t Paul say that the marriage bed is undefiled? And that each partner should not “withold themselves” from each other, And that the only time they should not be “together” (I would assume sexually) is when they are praying and fasting and that afterwards once they are done to come together again so that they are not tempted? There is nothing wrong with married people engaging in sex. Its the unmarried that have or extra marital affairs that are problematic.

So, I wonder, would he be advocating the 7-day sex plan if it meant NOT using BIRTH CONTROL??? The majority of protestants I know (and sadly, also the majority of Catholics) all use artificial contraception, so yeah, 7 days of sex (without any consequences) would be great, I’m sure. But to those of us who strive to live out our faith with chastity as a part of our marriages, it’s not just about doing whatever you want whenever you want. We have three kids (one a breastfeeding infant) and my husband is very fearful about losing his job (he’s been through 10 layoffs in the past 6 years). It’s difficult at times, but right now, we are abstaining for what we feel to be the good of our family. Notice I did not say we are having sex and contracepting for the good of our family–we are sacrificing our pleasure for the sake of our family. I would love to have another child in the future, but right now, with the economy going into the toilet, is not the right time, so we must sacrifice. (We normally use NFP, but breastfeeding is making that pretty much impossible.) The funny thing is, I think we have actually grown closer during this period of abstinence because we are putting the good of the beloved ahead of our own desire.

Not if they are using the timing method. BTW I’m protestant and don’t use BC.
