Dallas, May 16, 2008 / 04:15 am (CNA).- A priest in the Diocese of Dallas on Tuesday resigned from his new post at St. Michael the Archangel Church in McKinney after complaints about his past participation on an Internet site for homosexual priests.
Father Arthur Mallison had been working at the church for several weeks after being transferred from a previous parish where he had served for years. According to the Dallas Morning News, his transfer prompted a widely circulated internet item, which reportedly described the priest’s history with the web site and questioned whether he would drive families from his new parish.
Father Mallison’s involvement in a no longer operating web site for homosexual priests briefly surfaced in news reports in 2002.

What do you all think about this?

Mixed feelings.
  1. The article says the priest resigned "for the best interests of the parish - that would be good.
(I wonder if he would have resigned if the news didn’t come out?)
  2. The article does not state that he renouces his past actions, or the gay lifestyle, or his beliefs of several years ago that openly gay priesthood was OK.
  3. I have worked in Catholic schools and seen these problem priests and religious before. If they do not renounce, repent, and change, they are fair game to be hunted down and exposed as an opposition to the church, if not a downright enemy of the church.

He said he had contributed to this website when it’s purpose was to support gay priests in a celibate lifestyle. It also states he quit contributing to the website in 2001 after others began posting pornographic material.

It does not state he is a gay priest. It only states he contributed to the website. It is possible he was only supporting his fellow clergy maintain a celibate lifestyle, in which case he would have nothing to repent.

Don’t get me wrong, maybe this requires close supervision from the Church. I just don’t feel we should be quick to bash a priest or any other clergy because of association without proof of anything definite taking place.

Because of the limited amount of information in the article, I think it’s too soon to rush to judgement and still believe, he and everyone involved needs our prayers. Afterall, it appears the diocese considers him to still be a priest in good standing.

I’m sure if there’s proof of any wrong doing, it will come out. Until then, prayer and trust in the Lord should our primary goal, in my opinion.

Joh 8:7 When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Was our Lord accused of being an adulterer because of our His intervention in the above scripture?

You could be right. I could be rushing to judgement.

But if he has nothing to hide, I disagree with his decision to resign. That would NOT be in the best interests of that church.

I have real life experience in this subject, and I’ll admit to being biased. I got to see some damaged kids. Usually long after the damage was done. One priest I worked with is locked up (for now) One was transferred and retransferred after a few scandals. This guy was flambouyantly “out” in defiance of the church (our church).

He turned up at another school in another state and had created a glowing webpage of what a great and repectable man he was. I told someone who really does “hunt down and expose enemies of the church.” The website changed virtually overnight. I truly expect to hear of another scandal, another damaged teenage boy, and another transfer.

How can a priest be “gay” if he is celibate. As far as I am concerned, priests have no sexuality whatsoever except for gender identification. Fr. Mychal (“Michael”) Judge, called himself a gay priest, but said he was celibate. So far, no one has come to say that they had sexual relations with him. If these gay" priests are celibate, why can’t they renounce homosexuality? Fr. Judge used to hang around with them and condone their lifestyle all the time and marched in the "alternative St. Patrick’s Day Parade " with the gays and lesbians.when they were not allowed to march in the parade several years ago. Someone once pitched the idea of Fr. Judge for sainthood. Haven’t heard a word about it since, Thank the Lord.

I think the word gay here is used to describe his orientation, not his actions. A heterosexual priest who is celibate is still heterosexual. Same with a homosexual priest, he may be celibate, but he is still homosexual.

Celibacy is a choice of a course of action and a lifestyle. It is not a negation of what somebody is constitutionally.

Joh 8:7 When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

What’s ther rest of John 8:7? GO AND SIN NO MORE!!! Your sins are forgiven.

It meant that the woman sinned, but God was merciful and she was forgiven… BUT DON’T DO IT AGAIN.

Everyone that quotes this generally forgets the end of this and uses the first of this for their own agenda.

Gay designates a powerful interest group, onew that is openly hostile to traditional Christian morality. A professed gay priest is like a priest who votes for a pro-choice candidater because of hisd/her position on social security.

It is hard being a priest, especially the lone priest in a parish. I once knew a priest who always hung around the K of C. Hall. He did stuff like mow the lawn etc. My Dad said he once told him that he said he was a guy who needed company. His own father was an alcoholic and he strickly rationed himself to the two or three bottle he drank at the hall because he didn’t want to go down that path. My Dad understood because his own father was the same. He and Father "Mac’ each avoided the hard stuff totally. Women were also a temptation. Father "Mac’ joked that priests were like catnip to some women, even an "ugly mug"like himself. When he traveled he tried to stay at the local rectory. Never put on a pious face but he worked hard at his vocation.

I didn’t forget John 8:11 Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more… That would be a good one for the priest to read, if he’s truly sinned.

John 8:7 was to remind those of us who felt the need to condemn him, especially at this point with no definitive proof of any wrong doing.

I totally agree with you. We should not judge this priest. We do not know the full situation and therefore we are not even in a position to judge. He needs our prayers. :signofcross: :gopray2:

The Saint Sebastian’s Angels group had pornographic and anti-Catholic content long before 2001. The above link takes you to the group as it was in 1999. Many of the messages are devoted to telling tales of sexual exploits, while others make fun of then Cardinal Ratzinger (now His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI). The priest in question belonged to this group.

We need to pray for all the priests who belonged to this group. :crossrc:
