Yes, I do and even as a Catholic, my theology has always been more Protestant than Catholic.

I feel a very strong call from the Lord to serve this year and asking him to lead me where he wants me to serve has lead me to this other church. It’s awesome - even if you can’t see it 😉
See, now that would be my problem. There is no way that a Catholic who actually knows and understands what the church teaches could make such a statement. Mo5, I urge you to go back and really examine the theology that you think you disagree with the church on and insure that you are really at divergent opinion with it.

There was a time when I thought something similar but it wasn’t until I sat down and really got into the apologetics of why we believe these things that I discovered that my theology was in agreement with the Catholic faith and that the n-C teachings which I had been led to believe were based on the Bible alone were in fact based on select Bible verses and passages taken out of context. Frankly, I felt that I had been ripped off because the people who told me that they were “Bible believing Christians” proved to be highly selective Bible believing Christians and were in fact teaching me wrong. Perhaps it’s not completely their fault per se, they are repeating what they have been taught by others who are doing the same and those who taught them as well. It reminds me of a game of “gossip”, where the message that is whispered in the first person’s ear is not the same one that the last person announces to the group.

With everyone presuming the authority to read the Word of God and interpret doctrines based on what they understand (asserting that the Holy Spirit is guiding them) that result really isn’t that far fetched.

One example is Baptism.
Is it necessary for salvation?
If not, why bother?
Does the New Testament speak to this?
Yet many churches hold it as a peripheral doctrine and purport it to be optional.

There are many many different n-C teachings about baptism. Which one is correct, if any?

Inconsistency of teaching from church group to church group makes the message confused and watered down (IMO), but what is the truth? If the fullness of truth is unimportant then any old church will do, but that certainly doesn’t seem to align with even a cursory reading of the New Testament I have in hand. So… what’s up with that?

No, before I abandoned the Catholic faith (again) I’d have to know that the church I was moving into agrees with the whole New Testament and not just their interpretations of some selected passages and verses. I mean…this is my eternal soul we are talking about here.

Dearest Mum of 5 ~
I ditto this remark…almost in it’s entirety. Blessed be the day that my eyes were open to the Truth…and to be perfectly honest with you, I did not have Catholicism in mind when my heart was going through the loooooooong seeking process. I keep you in my prayers that the Holy Spirit is your guide…and Jesus your ever focus.
with Him~

I fully agree. I was a Methodist and converted to the Catholic Faith when I was given the grace to see the truth about the Catholic Church. That was after 44 years of only having part of the truth as a Protestant. Now I’m almost 58.
It is therefore now incredible to me that anyone would go the other way from the fullness of the truth of Christ to only part of it.

You say you don’t believe in the “Real Presence” and never have. Well, maybe you could do some reading on the Eucharistic Miracles - might give you some help in the realization of Our Lord’s Real Presence. I know you don’t have a lot of time to spend doing research, but it wouldn’t take long. Just do a search on Eucharistic Miracles. Shouldn’t take too long.

Won’t take anytime at all: therealpresence.org/eucharst/mir/lanciano.html

The best part is, that this miracle was studied by 68 secular, independant, World Health Organization scientists, all of whom said that there was no explanation for it. There are hundreds of pages of their research documents availible. They’re hard to find, but if you are curious. PM me and I will dig them up for you.

Fascinating point, before I go: every Eucharistic miracle in history has had the same blood type… :hmmm:

I don’t suppose you’re changing your mind based on any of the information that has been posted. It seems you are very convicted about your path. As I said before, we will be here if/when you come back. 🙂

God cannot contradict Himself. He cannot lead some people into the Church while leading others out. The plan of salvation is not relative to the individual. God’s grace can only lead people to the Catholic Church, and to the Catholic Church alone.

Another way to say this is:

“My theology has always been more like the men who created new religions than like the one Christ and the apostles left us.”

Wow, you just described my Catholic Church!!!
Then count your blessings that people in your church really care and have such things available.

No but it is heartening to see that there are Catholcs out there that do care about God.

The out door is bigger than the in door. Probably even larger than the number who leave for Protestant churches is the number who don’t go to any church at all. I know of my classmates, that would be at least 95% that have no church of any kind.

Do you have sources that show us these stats on a world-wide level?
Well, if you look at the stats in terms of how many of the population are baptised Catholic and how many are practicing, that’ll tell you a lot in itself. These have just been things I have noticed in passing but didn’t take note of the sources. A ‘friend’ says the Catholic church will be cleansed so maybe that’s what is happening 😉 Guess this city won’t need more than one church building when it’s complete which will be a relief given that they are pushed to have even one priest to two parishes.

Just noticed looking at my diary that someone has put us down for offertory this week… Don’t fret - I won’t be disrespectful or hypocritical and do it.

Now, if I could just find a Catholic that knows their Bible to have a face to face discussion with. Every time I get out a Bible they run away because, “Oh, I don’t know the Bible”, end of conversation. Very frustrating. :bible1:

Yeah, I know what ya mean. There are many people (not just your Catholic friends) who don’t read the Bible regularly.

You know, that could be a calling of yours. Catholics are desperately lacking in the basic Bible knowledge department, and it’s not as though good parish priests have a lot of time on their hands. Of course, you’d have to actually learn Catholic theology first, but it’s just a thought–it could be a calling for you.

I’m seeing a general theme here of people in your life avoiding you. I would suggest doing some deep introspection about why people are not seeking out your friendship both at church and or socially such as to discuss the Bible.

I’ve enjoyed being with you for the last year but I have decided to leave the Catholic church and get a believer’s baptism in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism. Just wanted to let you know. God is good and I have never known Him like this before.
Jesus didn’t leave a Bible and tell us to strictly follow it. That would only have spread confusion.

Jesus left us his Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity in the form of the Holy Eucharist which can only be received in the CC. He left us a Pope, with Saint Peter being the first Pope. He also gave His Mother to the world but only Catholics realize the full meaning of that. In addition to all of that Jesus left the Church all of the beautiful sacraments.

Also, remember where the Bible comes from. It comes from Catholics.

I will pray for you.

Why do you feel it necessary that one memorize the bible in order to discus religion?

I hear what you’re saying, but the reality of apologetics is “Know the Bible or die.” Unfortunately, too many Protestants think the mere fact of knowing a lot of verses by heart means something.

True. But why is the emphasis on memorization? I just don’t get it. Don’t you think being able to locate a passage in the bible is adequate? Kind of like an open book exercise?

I personally think it has something to do with the superficiality of Protestantism. Everything is “for show.” Why do works? Tod DEMONSTRATE your faith. What is Baptism? A symbol to “SHOW” your faith. Operating in that kind of environment could easily produce the mentality that the more verses you sprinkle over your speech, the greater your faith/holier you are.

It’s just a theory, of course. I’d never try to prove it. But anedcotally speaking I seem to amass more evidence for it every day.
