We have ONE mediator with God and that is Jesus. Not a priest. I do not need a priest to confess.
Would Jesus have given his Apostles the power to forgive sins if he didn’t expect them to use that power?

I would just like to respond to the “I dont’ need a Priest to confess my sins to…” which is something Protestants love to say. OK… so how about Baptism? Can you just go straight to God - pour water on yourself & be baptized? No - you’ll go through the Pastor. How about communion? Will you just take a cracker & some wine - hold it up yourself & turn it into the “symbol” of Jesus? No… you’ll go through the Pastor. What about the sacrament of marrage… can 2 people just stand out in a field and ask God to join them? No again. They’ll go through a Pastor. So you see, Protestants recognize that they can’t go just directly to God for any of those… but yet confessing sin… something that’s 100% Biblical… they’ve decided they can live without.

When I attended my Prostestant Church I asked my Pastor about that portion of scripture where it says we should confess our sins to each other… He said, “The early Church did it that way… but it’s not necessary today” Oh yeah? Says who? Not the word of God.

I like going to the other church because I am tired of the apathy I find in the Catholic church, from lay people and priests alike. Why is it that other more evangelical churches are on fire for Christ while in the Catholic church, you’re lucky if you can get half the congregation kneeling when they should?
  1. Because in general only interested people are going to the Protestant Churches. Those who are not “on fire” don’t bother.
In the Catholic Church, people go because they are obeying the King. True, many people are slack, but society is not made of only excited citizens.
  1. Also, Protestants tend to start up churches for purposes of networking, business, and political influence.
The Catholic Church is the same organization everywhere and there is not much exciting novelties you can mold into it (though some try).
40.png
mumof5:
And there is a real community. People actually care if you are there or not. By the time I’d been going a few weeks I knew more people there than I did in the Catholic church because they were interested. The opportunities just weren’t there in any neighbouring parishes.
Like I said, they care a lot about networking opportunities. That is how they stay alive. Protestant churches tend to be businesses.

The Protestant Church is not serving God as much as they are serving their own need for security among other people. That is reflected by the many denominations, the desire to find acceptance to the point of changing doctrines (accepting homosexuality, abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.), and the quick spiritual reward they offer (cheap grace etc.). It is a false religion, and does not even possess the true Gospel in most cases. The very basis for their existence is a sin against charity toward the body of Christ, for they introduce division.

However, many of their members can be considered innocent for a time, and their baptism is valid. I am not so sure you are one of those who are innocent, since you have had access to the truth of the Catholic teaching found here on this board. Since you are planning on being re-baptized, you are mocking God (I don’t think you are trying to mock Him, but that is what it amounts to).

If you were truly to serve God, you would contribute to the slack parish you were in. Instead, you are hopping to where things are hoppin’. Where was that church 1000 years ago? Where will it be in 100 years? Do you care about the truth of your religion?

However, if you do not believe what the Church teaches, then it seems to make sense to leave. But don’t think one church is as good as the next. All the scandals and apathetic clergy or laity will not change the fact that the RCC is the true Church founded by Christ. It is a field with weeds and wheat, but He makes sure it stays around until He returns. You would do well to learn more about it and stay to work in the vineyard.

If God is sending you elsewhere, then I can only think it is in order to bring you back later.

No, I do not and never have believed in the real presence.

Well, that would be pretty obvious, because if someone really, truly believed it, then NOTHING would take them away from it. Why don’t you believe? Jesus makes it’s very clear in the Bible. He makes NO implications that it is merely symbolic. Please pray hard about this, if you leave, you are leaving such a precious gift!

QUOTE]
A lot of times when you attend these Bible studies, you can’t help but be influenced by what another persons, especially the facillatator’s, own interpretation of the scripture might be. And that can often be a wrong interpretation even if it may seem harmless. I know a lot of things that I studied early on in my faith seemed harmless enough, but later on I’ve have grown to realize how that some things actually were incorrect. And I realized that through my own growth and prayer, not just because someone told me so.

Please think about it some more. And if you still leave, but later on realize it was a mistake, you are always welcome back!

I’m sad to hear about your decision, but I understand. Yes, I agree there are many Catholic parishes and members that are not ‘on fire’. With millions of members, I think you will understand that you will notice this more often in a Catholic church than in an independent church that has perhaps a few hundred members - the math just works that way.

I wish I could find an article to post for you and if I can I will, but the basic preimse of the article was 'you don’t say an aspirin doesn’t work just because you have a headache and don’t take it.’ In other words, the people who are not ‘on fire’ in the Catholic church aren’t ‘on fire’ not because the Church isn’t true, it’s because they just haven’t made their own personal committment to Jesus Christ (yes - we do that in Catholicism too!). Sadly, I’m sure there are some priests and bishops in this category as well, and yes sadly, these same priests and bishops do not evangelize their congregations as they should.

I’m sorry you didn’t find the encouragement you needed in the Catholic church to bring your faith to full fruition. I hope one day, as you are in your bible study group and begin to learn more about Scripture, you will begin to wonder and question what certain pasages mean. When you start digging deep into Scripture, there is no way to avoid the truth of Catholicism. There just isn’t.

God bless you, and I know you know that you’re always welcome back home. All you gotta do is answer the door: *“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me” (Rev 3:20). *

I’ve enjoyed being with you for the last year but I have decided to leave the Catholic church and get a believer’s baptism in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism. Just wanted to let you know. God is good and I have never known Him like this before.
There is an old saying - “Going to church will make you a Catholic when going into a barn will make you a horse”.

Don’t base your decisions on other peoples actions or inactions. The fire you seek will come to you only if you so choose.

The Catholic Church is Christ’s own church. All of it’s rules were given to it by Christ Himself. It is the splinter churches, including the one you are considering, that are creations of men. You should reconsider.

Blessings,
Subrosa

I hope everything work sout for you and you may find comfort in your decision. I really can’t relate to your problem because I find the Catholic faith so vibrant and alive. I guess it is all in the way you open your heart to Our Lord & his Church.

I hope you remember that the church will always be here waiting for your return. When/If you find yourself wanting to move to another denomination because you feel something is missing try to remeber the church will ALWAYS be here waiting for you. After denom jumping for a few years trying to find that perfect fit I pray that you will realize that Christ Church and the fullness of his truth will be always here waiting for you to come home!

God Bless, have a pleasant journey! 👍

Why is it that other more evangelical churches are on fire for Christ while in the Catholic church, you’re lucky if you can get half the congregation kneeling when they should? Young people sitting slumped IF there are any young people at all? Not in the other church. And my children are now excited about church and learning so much. Much better than Sunday morning complaining.

I can go to a woman’s study group once a week and I can learn about the Bible. It’s solid. They are actually reaching out to the congregation. And there is a real community. People actually care if you are there or not. By the time I’d been going a few weeks I knew more people there than I did in the Catholic church because they were interested. **And this is exactly how and why I came into the Catholic Church! After 40 years of jumping up and down saying “Amen”, clapping my hands and having “fun” at church - it finally dawned on me that this is not exactly “very holy”! Yeah sure, when the music sounded great - I thought I was filled with the Holy Spirit - and for a short while, maybe I was - but it could never compare with the awesome feelings of the Holy Spirit when receiving the Blessed Sacrament at Holy Mass! Once a month we had our “communion” - a piece of torn up bread and some grape juice! Even before I knew I would become Catholic, I would sit and imagine the bread and grape juice as being HIS true Body and Blood - and I don’t even know why I thought that! At that time, I had no clue about the Eucharist! Funny how God saw my love and desire to receive Him in all His Glory - and led me directly to the Holy Catholic Church!

I think the reason why so many Protestants enjoy their church is because the “service” is a BIG PARTY! And you can do what you want! Right?! And you get to “know so many people!” Well, you know what? Big deal! I found more trouble in my life coming from “busy body” Protestant friends who really don’t have a clue about Christ then from unbelievers at work. As a matter of fact, the church people were worse! And for years I was right in there with them! Praising and worshipping God is not about “fun, fun, fun!” To be totally honest, your own pride and misleading human nature refuses to adhere to the teachings of Christ Holy Catholic Church. Remember this as well, you are also taking your children down with you into a religion that was started by a lunatic in the 1500’s. Do you really want this? You are basically tossing away true salvation as well as your childrens.

People who leave the Catholic Church leave because they want their own way. They refuse to adhere to rules! But you must remember this - Christ was obedient even unto death! A horrible torturous death! He was obedient to the Father, as we should be obedient to His Holy Catholic Church. The Pope, is Christ’ Vicar. We all must obey the Pope as Christ - Who obeyed the Father. The Bishops and priests are our spiritual advisors who absolve us from our sins and give us the Bread of Life! Where in a Protestant church are you going to get absolution? No where! You will walk around all your life with a filthy soul - thinking that since you sang and clapped your hands at the weekly service, your soul is ok. Well it’s not! Everytime you think evil thoughts about one of your parishioner friends, or lie, cheat, steal, whatever, you will be carrying these sins around on your soul and it will stink to high Heaven! Your singing, “Amen-ing”, clapping and jumping up and down, and “women’s bible study” is not going to make you look any better in the sight of the Lord. Only confessing your sins to a Catholic priest will make you “white as snow!” You will be carrying around filthy horrible sins all your life now - and it will be to God, a horrific disfigurement to your soul.

The Catholic Church is the sure way to salvation and to eternal life! If you think you’re going to get to Heaven by jumping around and singing the popular Protestants religious songs (and they all have live bands up there on the - what are they? stages? They certainly are not altars!), while making tons of friends, and worse of all, given erroneous opinions about scripture - which you will most definitely be getting from this “women’s group” - if I were you, I’d rethink this whole thing. It is not God calling you away from His church - but the devil.
Think about it! I will pray for you.

God bless and I hope God releases you from this terrible temptation put before you to leave His Holy Catholic Church!**

I really think you should leave your parish and travel a ways to find a solid Catholic parish that will give you the environment of support you need while you learn the Catholic faith established by Jesus Christ. You probably do not have a good enough grasp of the Catholic faith yet to start your own programs of renewal, and if you tried, you might unintentionally cause other people to have the same stumblings that you are having.

I think you are right about that and also I would add stay with CAF I believe you can get a lot of knowledge about your faith even on this forum. Oh, don’t forget to visit the website of EWTN another great website 👍

I left the catholic church for the same reasons six months ago. I am now back but I am differant. I am back because I love the mass. It is a biblical masterpiece and has not been surpassed by the many, many, many churches i looked into. If one loves the bible how can you not love the mass?

There are alot of other RCC things i really don’t like but i choose not to believe in or practice them And in my view it doesn’t matter because it isn’t necessary for salvation. Jesus really is interested in our charity and obedience to Gods law which is to love one another. I view the rest as tradition, custom and culture.

I do miss the handshakes and smiles every sunday morning though. But my spiritual anchor is in the mass. The mass was designed by God and Christ. can’t go anywhere else.

Good luck at your new church!

Hi,

I would like to offer you my own personal testimony so you can see where I’m comin’ from and WHY I returned to Catholicism.

I am a cradle Catholic and a “revert” to the faith after being gone for about 34 years. I had left the Church at about age 17 because I was on drugs and then “got saved” at a Campus Life Bible study that was run by a very cool minister. I had always gone to church but never really taken it seriously or read the Bible, even though it was in the house and other members of my family read it. The lack was not in the church (I see that now) but within me. I began to read the Bible for the first time in my life…(the epistle of St. James) and it really hit home. I have always believed in God, but I saw that that was not enough. I did alright for a couple of years, got married and we moved here to Florida, where I stayed out of establishment churches because I figured they were all messed up and did my thing as a “Jesus freak”, witnessing on the streets and handing out Christian underground papers and tracts, and “witnessing” to anyone who would listen.

Eventually I and my little family joined a Baptist church because the preacher convinced me that we believed the same things and he liked my no fear witnessing. That was fine until I admitted that I figured that the gifts of the Holy Spirit did not end with the death of the last apostle. That ended my path to being a Baptist minister so we joined a local Assembly of God where we stayed for many years in spite of some really unscriptural and uncharitable things they did. I became a deacon there, but finally we left after they pulled some really lame stuff and blew me off when I pointed out that what they were doing was unscriptural. My letter telling them why we were leaving was 10 pages long.

I intended to find another church, but we never did and so we remained out of any church for many years.

About 5 years ago I hit a real crisis and decided to turn back to the Lord. I found that Jesus meant every word of the parable of the prodigal son. I began to read the Bible again and got a New American Bible which is about like the NIV except this one has all the books (which I liked even though at the time I was still a Protestant). This particular edition was fairly big, with a bright green paperback cover that said “The Catholic Bible” in big orange letters. I went diddy-bopping into a meeting one day with that in hand and wasn’t in there a hot minute when some guy jumped my case.

“Are you Catholic?’ he asked me. “Well…yeah”, says I, (since technically I was). “You Catholics worship Mary.” “Say what?” I responded. “You Catholics worship Mary. You pray to her.” “Look, I know I been outta the church for a long time, and we do pray to her but we DON’T worship her and no Catholic that knows his ear from his elbow would ever even SAY such a crazy thing. We worship God alone. End of story, Dude.”

He persisted so severely that I finally told him that I’d get some books, check it out and get back to him with what I found out, and that if he was right then I would never enter a Catholic Church ever again.

I found a great book by a priest named Father Oscar Lukefahr of Catholic Home Study Service (The Catholic Home Study Service ) and read it carefully and prayerfully. I was happy to find that not only were the Catholics right and that they do not worship anyone but Almighty God, but that their doctrines about Mary are soundly based upon the Bible and that the early Christians believed the very same things. Even the three pillars of the Reformation ( Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli) believed the same things about Mary that Catholics do today. In the end I went back to church and met another Catholic guy, who like myself was returning to the faith as well. We studied and talked and found ourselves having to dig up real answers for people we knew who didn’t like the Catholic Church.

I continued to study Catholic teaching and discovered that a great deal of what I had been taught about the Bible and Christianity was wrong. I found that non-Catholics ignore and “read around” Bible passages that support Catholic teaching and that they completely ignore the history of Christianity prior to the 1500s. Now I know what I believe and why and I will never change, though I promise every non-Catholic that I dialog with that if they can prove that the Catholics are wrong that I’ll be in their church with them every Sunday from now on. No one even comes close…

continued

Now I participate at Mass as often as I can, pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet almost every day, abstain from meat on most Fridays (just out of devotion to God), and of course read and study my Bible, as well as other Catholic writings. I am Catholic because I know and believe with all my heart and soul that the Catholic Church IS the New Testament church and I believe that the Eucharist is everything that the church teaches it is, the same as the early church did…all the way back to the last supper and the 6th chapter of the Gospel of St. John. I believe it’s really the body and blood of our risen Lord because St. Paul said that if you take communion while living in sin that you become guilty of the body and blood of the Lord, and that wouldn’t be possible if His body and blood weren’t really present in the form of bread and wine…just like the last supper. It is the most powerful miracle in all of Christianity, and I love it.

My Christian life is stronger than ever before, my prayer life is powerful, and I have great answers to my prayers like never before. I have always been a soul winner and that has not changed at all. God has used me to win some people that I sure couldn’t have won on my own. Some were very anti-Catholic and now are very MUCH Catholic and very happy and forthright about their faith. It’s really very humbling…I feel like a raggedy (unworthy) Styrofoam cup at a feast, filled with the very finest wine.

So… God Love ya, That’s it. I’m nothing special. There are thousands of people like me who are returning to the faith each week and many more who are finding their way into it as well. It’s been here for over 2,000 years…it won’t die off or go away, and the very gates of hell have not prevailed (and will not prevail) against it. Jesus promised and He has kept that promise in spite of the human failings of individual members of His one true church.

This is the real thing. The fullness of truth, and the most beautiful Christianity you can possibly imagine. Nothing outside the Catholic Church even comes close. I cry tears of humble joy during the consecration at Mass because I am so wrapped up in worship of my risen Lord and Savior. I don’t care who notices or what they might think. I’m more concerned with making sure that Jesus hears me when I say, “My Lord and my God.”

I was an “ex-Catholic” for over 34 years and as you can see I not only found real faith in Christ but returned to what I have researched and found to be the real New Testament Christianity. Namely, the Catholic Church.

There are many things that many non-Catholics state that we Catholics believe that every one of us knows is not so, but for some reason people can’t seem to look at all this objectively and allow the Holy Spirit to guide and correct you.

Oh I know, you think you’ve found the truth…I thought I had too, but it wasn’t until I actually studied the Bible and looked into the reasons why the Catholic Church teaches the things it does with a heart open to the truth that the Holy Spirit pointed out the fallacies of the post reformation churches.

The biggest of all problems is that you have been seduced into accepting Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide, when neither doctrine is supported by the full context of the New Testament and worse still you are ignorant of Christian history and the writings of the early church that would further confirm that the people discipled by the apostles never interpreted the Word of God to mean the things that you believe today. They do however confirm the doctrines of the Catholic Church, which simply adds that much more assurance to my faith.

For many years I wouldn’t accept that the Catholic Church was right, simply because I didn’t want them to be right. But I knew from reading my Bible that the non-Catholic churches I was part of were either ignoring passages of the NT or reading into them their own interpretations and for a long time I just did the mental gymnastics of setting aside those points.

However, it was as a result of an attack on Catholic teaching and a crisis in my life that I actually began to seek the truth once and for all with a heart committed to following it no matter where it led. It was by prayer and constant study of God’s Word and comparing the teachings of the Catholic Church to those of other churches that I could see that I had been sorely misled and deceived.

So, although I can identify with those who stumble out the Catholic Church and into the deceptions and errors, I am now committed to doing all I can to insure that other Catholics are not so deceived, and to defend the Catholic faith from those who attempt to propagate their misunderstandings. misinformation, and outright lies about our most holy faith.
Pax tecum,

Hi mum,

Before actually severing your relationship, you might want to consider the following:

Do you have any idea when your church was founded and by whom? You may find this enlightening:
If you are of the Catholic faith, Jesus Christ founded your Church in the year A.D. 30.
If you are Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk in the Catholic Church, in 1517.
If you are Anabaptist, your religion was founded by Nicholas Storch and Thomas Munzer in Germany in 1521.
If you belong to the Church of England (Anglican), your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.
If you belong to the Mennonites, your church was started in 1536 by Menno Simons in Switzerland.
If you are a Calvinist, Jon Calvin started your belief system in 1555 in Switzerland.
If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded when John Knox brought the teachings of John Calvin to Scotland in the Year 1560.
If you are Unitarian, your group developed in Europe in the 1500s.
If you are a Congregationalist, your religion branched off Puritanism in the early 1600s in England.
If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1607.
If you are Dutch Reformed, Michaelis Jones founded your church in New York in 1628.
If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.
If you are an Episcopalian, your church came from England to the American colonies. It formed a separate religion founded by Samuel Seabury in 1789.
If you are a Campellite Christian Church, your religion was started by Thomas and Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone at a revival held at Bushy Creek.
If you are a Mormon (Latter-day Saints), Joseph Smith started your church in Palmyra, N.Y. in 1830.
If you are Seventh Day Adventist, your religion was founded by Ellen Whitein 1844 in Washington, New Hampshire.
If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.
If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year your religion was founded by Mary Baker Eddy.
If you are a Jehovah’s Witness, your religion was founded by Charles Taze Russell in Pennsylvania in the 1870s.
If you’re Church of Christ, your church broke of from the Campellites in 1906.
If you are Pentecostal, your religion was started in the Topeka, Kansas in 1901 by Charles F. Parkham
If you are Assemblies of God your church grew out of Pentecostalizm in 1914 in Hot Springs, Az.
If you are a member of Four-square Gospel, your church was started by Aimee Semple McPherson in L.A. in 1917.
If your Church of Christ, your church broke of from the Campellites in 1906.
If you are Calvary Chapel, Chuck Smith founded your church in Costa Mesa, Ca, 1965
If your organization is “evangelical nondenominational christian” your group started in the 1970s by protestant evangelists.

As you can see, with the exception of the Catholic Church, these were all started by men or women and we know who they are. They are actually the ones who are following their man made doctrines.

Before you join another Church, it might be a good idea to ask for some evidence that their church was founded by Jesus Christ.

Please, pray about this decision. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you the the Pillar and Foundation of Truth and make it clear which is the Church that was founded by Jesus Christ.

May the grace of Jesus, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always.

Your brother in Christ.

If you are of the Catholic faith, Jesus Christ founded your Church in the year A.D. 30.
Perhaps Mum has read scripture, took a look around her Catholic church, and wondered how it could have drifted so far away from what the Bible teaches. As Catholicism has drifted further away from biblical truth by adding layers and layers upon the message of Christ, it looks less and less like the church he founded. Thankfully many are finding the truth within the Holy Bible.

For someone who is listed as Christian in their profile, that is not a very Christian thing to say. 😦

I do not see how I could be a Christian and allow such error to continue without saying something.
