Again, your emphasis is not on worship but on being recognized by people, people turning around to say hi, recognizing you are new. None of this is emphasis on worship. The emphasis is on fellowship. As someone else mentioned, this is about you and people noticing you and people saying hi to you. Please make sure that you do take time in between meeting and greeting, seeing and being seen at your new church to take time think about God, too. I know when I got to Mass, it is most important that He sees me there.

Church is about fellowshiping. The christian family. worshiping together. renewing your faith. recharging your vigour.

You can have the MOST intimacy with God in your inner room praying in private. Public service is a lot about for unity and fellowship.

Not true but in any case, I realise some people will not be able to see what I am trying to say from the heart because they don’t want to.

It is a shame that the Catholic churches don’t have groups I can go to during the week. I think the word I used when I spoke to my husband last night was ‘stagnant’. Maybe that’s not your experience but it is mine. I’m quite happy not to meet and greet on the Sunday but believe it or not, our spiritual feeding is important too.

You need to find a Catholic Church that isn’t Stagnant! Yes there are some out there, but to suggest that the entire Church as a whole is stagnant is just false! Your giving up the riches of our faith because your not being fed at your parish. Change your parish! Why didn’t you start the weekly groups your desire?

Mumof5 lives in Australia and whatever Diocese she belongs certainly does not sound as if it presents itself in a healthy way for Catholics; however, I do not personally know from experience so I needs to resist further judgment because only one side of the story is presented.

I think that mumof5 needs constant spiritual support and, for her, she is not receiving it in the Catholic Church. Is there a RENEW program in her Diocese that she can join? Perhaps she could begin her own spiritual group, host people in her home (people could rotate bringing snacks and Cokes) because I suspect there are others similar to her who would like to meet regularly to discuss the faith.

I think that mumof5 is trying, but I would encourage her to be an aggressor and rather than allow herselt to get frustrated with what she perceives as a “stagnant” chruch that she take the initiative and develop a spiritual support group through the parish. Since she has 5 kids it might be easier to meet in her home. Or they can meet in the parish.

Just suggestions to help keep her in the Catholic Church and maybe by taking an active role in the shortcomings she sees she will help many others with similar, but quiet, feelings.

Believe me my Priest immerses everyone! even at easter vigil, the candidates have get right in! Its awesome!

I think that Baptism by sprinkling is still efficacious, though.

I know that Roman Catholic Churches use the method of pouring, but I don’t think I ever heard of any that sprinkle?

Okay, I will need some back-up, but I just read within the last few days on this forum that archeological digs have discovered Baptismal fonts from the first and second centuries that were 15-18 inches tall showing that sprinkling was used (can’t “dunk/submerge” people in fonts the size of bird baths).

Can anyone remember the thread? Or if I remembered this correctly?

I can understand why people like to see people dunked as part of Baptism (visually, it leaves quite an impact), but to profess that dunking is the only acceptable way actaully irritates me (maybe because it has such as Baptist/Fundamentalist “We’re right and Catholics are wrong!” attitude).

Mickey is right. Pouring is efficacious, but I’m not to sure about “sprinkling.” You may want to check this out (although I haven’t read it myself in a while):

Latin Catholics pour. And most Eastern Catholics (like myself) immerse. It’s all good!

ME too. but mostly because they think it is only a symbol anyway so why do they even care!? I have herad it said it is not even necessary.

That’s a good point. Matter and form should be irrelevant to Protestants.
