The Holy Father is a great gift to the Church.

Indeed Christians, Muslims, and Jews should work together to build a just and peaceful world.

All of our recent Popes have expressed this idea.

All I have to add is an amen.

Pope Francis : "God willed the plurality of religions" Non-Catholic Religions
HH Francis signed this document, which contains this statement… http://press.vatican.va/content/sal...bblico/2019/02/04/0097/00199.html#tradinglese “The pluralism and the diversity of religions … are willed by God in his wisdom…” How can this be reconciled with Church teaching?

St. Francis and the Sultan: What Really Happened in 1219 in Catholic Muslim dialogue?

Many think that Francis was a bunny-hugging bird kisser. When they think of him, they start to croon the tune from Brother Sun, Sister Moon or the ditty falsely attributed to him, “Make me a channel of your peace”. But Francis of Assisi was not a medieval peacenik. There was only one accord Francis wanted: the accord of one Faith… by their conversion.

Francis went to the Egypt to convert Sultan al-Kamil, a nephew of Saladin.

Let me get this straight.

Buddhism, Islam, Protestant, etc… is God’s will. So if I convert to Buddhism or Islam I am following God’s will.
So why be catholic? After all, God’s will says everything is okay concerning any religion

So when Protestants say the catholic definition of the Eucharist is false, this is God’s will???
When Jehovah’s Witness tell me that Jesus Christ is “A” Son of God, and that he was really Michael the Archangel - this is also God’s will???

The list can go on and on but this is enough for now.

Nicene Creed - “We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church…”
Change Nicene Creed to" “We believe in many different types of churches and religions…”

I think you are missing the point.

God’s will can be Permissive and it can be actionable.
When one says God’s will without clarification, we assume it is actionable.
In other words God willed the creation of the earth and universe ----- actionable.
God permits sin in the world ------ permissive.

The document does not say God permits plurality of religions ---- permissive.
It says “The pluralism …… are willed by God in His wisdom” ----- actionable.
In other words God created plural religions.

It would be nice if the distinction were clearly stated.

I believe Bishop Athanasius Schneider has given the definitive answer below;
There is only one way to God, and this is Jesus Christ, for He Himself said: “I am the Way” (John 14: 6). There is only one truth, and this is Jesus Christ, for He Himself said: “I am the Truth” (John 14: 6). There is only one true supernatural life of the soul, and this is Jesus Christ, for He Himself said: “I am the Life” (John 14: 6).

~Bishop Athanasius Schneider~

How lucky the Church is to have good bishops jumping in to correct Pope Francis. “What the Holy Father meant to say is…” 😏

But seriously, Thank you, Pope Francis, and God bless your papacy.

I hope that no one gets the idea that the Church is okay with religious indifferentism. We still believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Unless you believe Pope Francis was intending to agree to religious indifferentism, Bishop Schneider’s text doesn’t “gut” it at all. Of course, if Pope Francis was–God forbid–proposing such indifferentism, then bishops should “gut” such errors. Their job is to teach all the one unique way, truth, and life.

Good Pope Francis has chosen to emphasize the many things that bind those of differing confessions. Unfortunately, some outspoken prelates seek instead to emphasize the differences.

Thank God for this Pope and may we be blessed with many more years of his great, Christ-like leadership in the Church

So Bishop Schneider’s explanation is complementary to Pope Francis’. As one of Pope Francis’ predecessors noted in Tertio Millenio Adveniente, when it comes to meetings like this “care will always have be taken not to cause harmful misunderstandings, avoiding the risk of syncretism and of a facile and deceptive irenicism.”

Along these lines, Bishop Schneider does a service to the Pope by countering any unintended, erroneous, and harmful interpretations that his joint declaration might be given. This is important because, while we acknowledge the common origin of all men and anything good found among other religions, as Vatican II teaches in its declaration on this kind of thing (Nostra Aetate), the Church “ever must proclaim Christ “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to Himself.” God wills all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, and salvation and truth are found in the incarnate Word alone.

Such changes do not come that easily for some, much like one of my former neighbors decades ago who was terribly angry with Pope John and Vatican II and the changes that came out of it.

I grew up in an era that if your best friend got married in one of those “other churches” you couldn’t even go to the service let alone stand up for the wedding. I’m glad those days are gone, but some don’t see it that way, which is their right of course.

I guess you could say that… unfortunately it seems the Aux Bishop’s comments are taken by radical groups like Rorate Caeli, Lifesite ‘News’ and other to be resistance and correction… I’m willing to give the Aux Bishop the benefit of the doubt, but he should know that his words are being used in a very divisive way by fringe groups
