Just from the little I have read from what you wrote on here, you sound like one already to me.
Did you know that you could talk to your Pastor about your celiac disease and that in your case he would probably let you receive the Precious Blood only?
How long…
I just couldn’t resist throwing that one in here. (I suppose now I gotta go to confession!)

Actually I recieve Communion when I visit my Mother, as she has a low Gluten host and it’s kinda an excuse to se my parents monthly! Like someone on here said, compassion is important.

Carjack, you can write your response in the same quote instead of inserting into other posters’ reponses. It can be confusing sometimes. 😃

Yes, please go to a non-denomination service at least on Sunday, and I hope some day you will be joining a mass at your local Catholic church. 😉
Didn’t mean to confuse you. I right within a quote if it is long to answer individual sections. Sorry

Couldn’t your Parish get those too if you asked? I don’t know much about it obviously. I guess if it were me, I’d ask. Visiting your Mother is good to do too of course.🙂

Short version: My parish would like me to provide them-I haven’t pushed the issue because pastor 1 has had 4 surgeries in the past year, pastor 2 is now on vacattion, pastor 3 is a helper thru the summer. Between that & my divorce & annulment I just haven’t pushed the issue.
And it’s a built-in excuse to see mom!
She travels sometomes & it was so hard the 1sst time she was away from her home parish-now she asks for a blessing & she’s OK with that. It took awhile.

Waay off topic, here. I apologize.

  1. Birth Control is a issue.
It is very simple really, birth control goes against nature in that we are trying to go against that which is God given. The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is sacred and that when one has sex (the “marital embrace”) it is with the intention of being “open to life”. There are alternatives to birth control such as NFP (Natural Family Planning) if a married couple wants to have a certain amount of years between having a baby where a women’s cycle is studied every month by the married couple and the most fertile days that would make a woman pregnant are the days when the couple abstains from sex. That way you are having sex the way God intended and being open to life.
  1. Woman Priest (I think the church is sexist in these regards) Men are deciding these issues is a little bit on the biased side
Well, a priest is “In Persona Christi” (in the Person of Christ) and God chose to walk amongst us as a man. When Christ was alive he set the foundations of Holy Mother Church and so when one becomes a Priest you become married to Holy Mother Church. If Christ had intended for there to be “female priests” he would not have chosen the 12 Apostles that were all male and he would not have chosen to come live amongst us as a man. If you look at the Old Testament the priesthood was also all-male. Those who argue for female priests fail to remember this fact.
  1. The fact that SOME Catholics believe that Protestants have a very low chance in being saved(I have seen post that instigate on this issue)
As I am sure that some Protestants feel that many Catholic’s are going to hell because they think we worship the Virgin Mary, so I don’t see what your point is. The same could be said of Islam in that non-believers are infidels. If you are part of any faith of course you will think that those outside that faith are not entitled to this or that. But no one not even Catholic’s can play God and know for sure who is going to hell for God’s mercy is endless.
  1. The cover up with the Priest and Children(This stuff can happen anywhere, I have a bit of the issue with the “cover up”)
Being a victim of abuse I can say honestly that if I used this logic then I would have turned my back on all of humanity due to my having been abused by family members. The cases of abuse make up 3% of the Catholic church (with billions of followers) and if you compare that to society in general where alot of children are abused by their own family members then it is a very low percentage. Most of the abuse cases involving priests are very old and each Priest, Bishop…etc responsible for covering it up has to face God on judgement day for this.
  1. The fact that the Catholic has to agree with everything the Church states, even if the don’t believe it. Doesn’t anybody feel :hypno: after a while.
You mean that Catholic’s have to believe everything the church teaches. This is only logical, why call yourself Catholic, or Muslim or Hindu if you don’t believe what your faith teaches…I don’t see what the problem is…
  1. The laws in regard to the marriage: a catholic marries a non-catholic equals non-valid. The fact that a person can’t get a divorce due to unfaithfulness( a husband can bring a disease home that could kill his wife and vice versa). If any of the spouse renig on any of their vows, then the contract should be voided
You need to study the Catholic faith more, if a spouse has been unfaithful and the Catholic church determines that the unfaithful spouse never meant to fulfill their marriage vows then the marriage can be annulled. The same goes for spouses who suffer from domestic violence, cases of a spouse who is an addict…etc. And it is not a contract, it is called a Sacramental Marriage.
  1. Catholics don’t smile at Mass(The ones I have seen, this bothers me a little bit.) Don’t things seem mechanical after a while? Not trying to be rude, but I doze after repetitive motions
I don’t see the relevance of why or who isn’t smiling in church. I am busy worshipping Our Lord and paying attention to only HIM. Whether Jim, Maria, Frank or whoever don’t smile is really irrelevant.
  1. The fact that if a man is impotent, he cannot be married. (where is the compassion on this)
There are cases where dispensations can be made by a Bishop so it is not as cut and dry as you make it.

My fellow Rican, sorry to say it but you really need to get your facts straight on the Catholic Church. There was a famous Bishop called “Fulton Sheen” who said and I am parapharsing “More people hate the Catholic Church for what they THINK it represents than for what it teaches.” And I think that in your case your opinions on what you THINK the church teaches and what the Catholic church really teaches is the root of the problem.

Boricua pa’ siempre. Will be praying for you. God bless.

You are wrong my friend, (and its not my opinion)Sorry you feel that way. HIS teachings are there. Not according to the HS
Again carjack1… with the same rhetoric. You cant prove anything with the rhetoric you are using. I know a person on another forum that uses basically the same reasoning as you do. Jesus is teaching him/her “personally” even though his/her teaching go against scripture. Say it as much as you want and make the same claims as you want but that is not going to make them true at all. Again you have not proven that your holey spirit is correct in what you think is being taught. You still have not answered why The Holy Spirit would teach different people different things. What makes your beliefs infallible, because thats the way you act? You cant prove anything with “thats your opinion, the HS tells me different” And you assertion of “not according to the HS” again that is YOUR OPINION.

I shall drop out of this thread… You have your mind made up and will not listen to reason. This bit about “thats your opinion” has gotten old. I leave you with these word from Luke 10 “Anyone who listens to you listens to Me; anyone who rejects you rejects Me and those who rejects Me reject the One who sent Me”.

You want to listen to yourself fine.

No need to reply to this post because I know what your replies are going to be. “That’s your opinion”, “I’m sorry you feel that way”, “Not according to the HS”, “that is what is being fed to you”, “I don’t agree with that”. Sadly you have failed miserably in your understandings and have not backed up your opinions with one teensy-weensy bit of proof; just simply by saying the above means nothing.

God Bless and so long to this thread…

1.Birth Control - This is the Church’s way of always trying to d@mn somebody. They want people to create babies non-stop so that they can :hypno: them into their distorted beliefs.
  1. Woman Priest - back in those days, women were the bottom of the totem pole, apparently nothing has changed for the Catholics.
  2. Well I guess the Prots VS the Catholics are a two street
  3. I love how Catholics deflect the chances of a family member molesting children more often than a priest. The fact is if the Catholics hold themselves to higher standards then everyone else, this shoudn’t have happened.
  4. That is why organized religions is wacky.
  5. It is a sacrament to you guys
  6. A person should feel joy when worshipping. When people are not smiling, it is indicative of lacking in joy.

Thank you for your prayers.

I shall drop out of this thread…Great!:extrahappy: You have your mind made up and will not listen to reason. I=I made it up when I was thanking everyone at CAF. I have researched and again I have heard the “reasons” that YOU provided. This bit about “thats your opinion” has gotten old.So have your insults I leave you with these word from Luke 10 “Anyone who listens to you listens to Me; anyone who rejects you rejects Me and those who rejects Me reject the One who sent Me”. I follow the Gospel. Are you implying I am not Christian and not following Jesus? Stop being arrogant.

You want to listen to yourself fine.I am not listening to myself. But please continue being saracastic, it is amusing:)

God Bless and so long to this thread…
God Bless and please don’t speak with me if you are going to insult me

1.Birth Control - This is the Church’s way of always trying to d@mn somebody. “They want people to create babies non-stop so that they can :hypno: them into their distorted beliefs.”

Yes, its a conspiracy to follow God’s natural plan. Please, that you can even write something so ridiculous and come on a Catholic forum to insult our faith by saying “their distorted beliefs” shows that you have no solid foundation in whatever it is you believe. If you did you wouldn’t resort to insulting another’s faith…period.
  1. I love how Catholics deflect the chances of a family member molesting children more often than a priest. The fact is if the Catholics hold themselves to higher standards then everyone else, this shoudn’t have happened.
You make no sense in what you write. I wrote that the percentages of children being abused are MUCH MUCH higher than the percentages of children abused by clergy. I don’t appreciate your making assumptions about me and **I know what it is to have been abused so don’t come with the higher than thou attitude. ** And abuse of children by religious is not a Catholic thing. It seems you just want to attack the church.
  1. It is a sacrament to you guys
Again, being disrespectful. “You guys”
  1. A person should feel joy when worshipping. When people are not smiling, it is indicative of lacking in joy.
To repeat your favorite words “that is your opinion”.
  1. It is in cannon law and it is pretty cut dry. One thing I learned about Catholics, is that it is pretty cut and dry on every single issue.
I am sorry but what Canon law is it exactly and I guess you have a case by case experience right? I doubt it. You have shown that you are biased and not very knowledgeable of the faith. Plus, very disrespectful as to our beliefs and practices.

As a Boricua having to read another Rican write this stuff is sad to see. Your writing comes across as Jack Chick style the Catholic Church is evil and consipiring to brainwash the human race kind of stuff. I am out of this thread and leave you to your insults and biased opinions not based on fact. **This thread reminds of another thread where little by little it unravels like an onion and you get more and more anti-Catholic bias. **

Ok. You can go and drink your wine and eat your bread after confession and be saved now:D . I do not have to believe in your doctrines. buh bye. Birth Control - it is the Church’s conspiracy to d@mn others. God’s Natural plan I disagree. I didn’t have a higher than thou attitude, the cover up is what I had a problem with. DOn’t put words in my mouth. I didn’t say abuse was a Church thing. It is a sacrament to Catholics is that better? My you are sensitive(maybe it is because of the abuse thing) I didn’t know “you guys” was derogatory. I need to check my dictionary and see where this is derogatory:rolleyes: Yes that lack of joy is my opinion(I am glad we agree). I am not biased against the faith. I just do not agree with it. Catholics usually don’t do things on a case by case basis. Everything is you do exactly what we say or you are not Catholic. I am not disrespectful to your beliefs. I don’t agree so that makes me disrespectful I guess. Who knew? I never said that the CC is evil, please don’t put words in my mouth. What fact did I get wrong. The part about your doctrines? I am not anti Catholic. Don’t label me. I am tired of Boricua’s being tied to this religion. I would appreciate it if people stopped trying to force feed me.

Carjack1: Please try to follow your own guidelines you put forth in this topic - that you were not going to bash the Catholic Church (in other words, merely stating your own opinion can in fact be bashing the Catholic Church). I’ve been following along up to this point and for the most part you have refrained from bashing the Catholic Church. But lately you have been doing what you said you would not do - bash the Catholic Church. 😦

Prayers continued your way in your journey. God bless! 🙂

Sorry if I appear to bashing the Church, but when people are trying to shove it down my throat, and then calling me stupid because I will not swallow. I have a problem with that. I was trying to make this peaceful. If you follow the thread, I am saying why I don’t disagree. I see why people bash the Church. I hope that all states make their laws like Mass, so that the Catholic adoption agencies can get out as well… I hope that Churches keep closing down, like they are in my area, till there are none left and I hope the laws around here make it difficult for Catholics to spread their “word” I am tired of the Catholic arrogance. I was not anti-Catholic before this thread, but I am certainly now.

I’ve been following all along. Here’s my take on the direction the thread has taken:

(1) You started the thread indicating that you have chosen to not continue the path towards the Catholic faith.
(2) The next set of posters wished you well and hoped you’d consider the Catholic Church at a later date.
(3) Other posters inquired further of you as to your reasons as to why you have chosen not to contiue toward Catholicism.
(4) You kindly responded as to those reasons.
(5) Then some posters asked for further clarification or tried to help you understand better the Catholic position.
(6) You indicated that you wished for this not to be a debate.
(7) Some posters continued to pursue your reasonings for not continuing in your study of Catholicism.
  • At this point you could have asked others to refrain from further questions regarding your reasons for not continuing your pursuit of Catholicism. But instead you decided to continue the debate instead of ending it.
    (7) You went on to elaborate your reasons for not pursuing Catholicism.
  • It is at this point in the conversation that you started in elaborate your opinions on what the Catholic Church teaches. When you did this, you were indeed bashing the Catholic Church.
When you say that the Church’s position on birth control is a way to damn somebody and that the Church wants people to create babies non-stop so they can distort them into confused beliefs - that is clearly a bashing of the Catholic Church. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that your intent is not to bash the Catholic Church, but your words in fact bash the Catholic Church. I could move on to the other Catholic bashing points you listed, but I hope you understand the point I am making.
God bless! 🙂

Styltermaldo had a great suggestion. Don’t ask me why I do not agree with your Catholic teachings, and I will not tell you why because that would be Catholic bashing. We can leave it as I don’t agree. Don’t explain your Catholic faith to me because I don’t appreciate being force fed.

Thank You

Don’t explain your Catholic faith to me because I don’t appreciate being force fed.
none of us do…

One of the biggest issues we, Catholic, face is lack of understanding and/or poor catecatical instyruction. Basically, are children we are told to do it period…and don’t ask questions. I say ASK QUESTION. Explore the faith and if you have questions, we will be here.

We are not trying to force feed you, Individuals you have been communicating with just want to make sure you know the real truth about the Church and our beliefs. You may still want to leave, but at least you can make an informed decision.

May God Bless you in what ever you do.

😦 This wasn’t meant to be a ugly thread. Most of my family is Catholic(including parents, they did baptize)

Thank You

I don’t think it is an ugly thread. So far, everyone answers nicely, and you are very patient answering too. 🙂

Everyone is questioning my understanding… I am going to tell you what I understand the Church’s beliefs to be about… If I am wrong please correct me…
  1. Jesus founded the Catholic Church with the apostles. Peter was the first Pope… There was no other Christian Church before…Catholics put the bible to together… Luther broke of created Protestanism… took out 5-7 books(Book of Wisdom, Sirach, Maccabees 1&2, Judith…etch). So because the Church is the oldest Church and was not found by “man” it is the truest.
  2. No women are priest because the Apostles were men. Therefore nothing can change, because it is all about the gender of the Apostles and Jesus(of course). There is no birth control because contraception is against the natural purpose of intercourse… Everything is about the unborn(don’t prevent them and no abortion). Use NFP to monitor ovulation… so a pregnancy can be avoided. If a pregnancy occurs because of this method…Catholic outlook is oh well, you are married and the purpose of a marriage is to create children…
  3. Mary is venerated as the Saints of all Saints. She is not worshipped. Praying to and with Saints is not worshipping them because they act as the agents of God.
  4. In order for a sin to be forgiven. A person in the Catholic Church has to have a contrite heart(be sorry for sins), Go to confession, and then be allowed to eat bread and drink wine(which the bread and wine is Jesus and therefore a person is eating Jesus), so that their soul can be nourished. The bread and wine become Jesus after the priest states magic words(know to Catholics as transbutation). Priest and deacons are mentioned in the New Testament so their power and Authority are justified to do all these things.
  5. There are sacraments to the faith. Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Last Rites(So far from what I read).
  6. The sinces are grave, venial, and mortal(mortal sins need to be confessed, because they are so serious a priest is needed to help the confessing person be forgived)
  7. There are prayers for every occasion. Eating, Sleeping, and everything else.
  8. Mass is for worshipping God(who cares if it is boring we are there for HIM) So the focus on fellowship isn’t there because of this(in some cases)
  9. In addition to the bible. Cannon laws are declared by the Pope(who is the infallible representative of Jesus). He is human and has weakness, but he is never wrong about the Catholic Law. If any of these laws are not followed, then a Catholic must confess it, because it is a sin(In addition to what is in the bible).
Am I getting it? or are there any other things that I am missing?

I don’t think this was an ugly thread Carjack1. I hope you continue to ask questions.

Another note: I read somewhere recently-sorry I can’t remember where-that even tho priest abuse happened, the CC still has the lowest incidence of abuse. DEFINITELY not saying it’s OK, just found that tidbit interesting. Esp since the priest I was rsised thru the Sacraments with was “hidden” quietly in our parish! I didn’t learn the facts until I was 18 or so, but I always thought he was creepey.(I figured out on my own he was an alcoholic.) How’s that for irony. Also, the associate pastor at the nondenom church I went to was accused of abuse. I guess I am trying to say people are human, abuse happens everywhere, and I wish I will someday not hear the priest scandals as a reason for leaving the CC.

And I still think Open to Life does not mean Haveas many babies as you are able.
Anyway, I hope you continue to learn about your faith-sounds like your family might be a place to go to- and ask questions. And maybe I’ll see you in church one day. Not playing in the Holy water because we’re older & know better! (Yeah, I got in big trouble for that one.)

Everyone is questioning my understanding… I am going to tell you what I understand the Church’s beliefs to be about… If I am wrong please correct me…
I believe that some of us asked you about it because we make sure you don’t misunderstand things and that we could help you in anyway we could. Understanding the Catholic faith is not easy and in fact, there are many things that we never understand fully until you are in Heaven. However, with the faith in Christ, we can trust the Church which He has established.

It will be great if you could open up with any understanding about the Church’s beliefs.
