Hello Militant.

Know this for certain God is where ever you are at! He is a living God do not insult him if you say you are Catholic then read you bible cover to cover it is ONE book! In the book of revelations it is cleary spoken by an Angel of God. How do we know what they are doing when they kneel before them, what do you think, Actions speak louder than words. Jesus never did that but knelt in the presents on the ground before God looking up, period!

Revelations Chapter 22 Verse 8

And I, John, am he who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and , I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. And he said to me, " Thou must NOT do that. I am a fellow servant of thine and of they brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. (Bible) “WORSHIP GOD”

So are we not all fellow servants of God who obey Him?
Are we not also to all to become “Holy Saints” for our Father is Holy?

Do you think the saints and martryers who gave their enter lives to suffer and serve, obey and even death for their great love of God, what us to honour them-- instead of God?

Is that why we are here to honour and worship each other and carve statues out of stone?

Saints are in heaven with God, would they be please and not sadden to see us us doing this, do they not want all of God’s children to repent and worship God only, for the salvation of our souls?

Who is sitting on the Throne? Who is sitting at his right Hand?
Who created us?
Even Jesus when told his mother and brothers and sisters were outside waiting for them, what did he say?

“All who believe in me and my word are my brothers and sisters and mothers!” whom was Jesus glorifiying and worshipping only first?

Jesus did not glorify anyone only God is Father! Not even Abraham, the friend of God, or Moses, but God and only God. They did not make statues of Abraham or Moses and “they spoke” with God and God with them, God choose them!

God Bless Worship God and god only
Nice sermon…irrelevant to the thread topic and even to me. 🤷

RPP you’re wrong it is certainly in there, and I will buy that Missal again and photocopy the page for you and psot it here and return the Missal.

Mea culpa you’re right I read that in the “guide to make a good confession” at my commuter Parish Our Savior on Lexington Avenue, they have the guide at the Church and online, it is under “after confession”

oursaviournyc.org/how-to-make-a-good-confession#9

AFTER CONFESSION

Kneel down in front of the altar or of an image of Our Lord, and thank him for the gift of this confession. Renew your resolution and ask His help to overcome future temptations. With St. Dominic Savio repeat the prayer/commitment synthesized in the motto: Death, rather than sin.

If the penance given by the confessor consists in some prayers to be recited, say them quietly and devoutly.

The SIC] smile at Jesus with gratitude. Rise joyful and confident for the Lord has been merciful to you. Live for Him every minute of your life, and let everybody see how wonderful it is to serve the Lord.
Um, I am confused between the first paragraph and the remainder of your post.

While it is certainly possible that I missed the reference in the missal, I stand by what I said. I found no references.

But even if it were in the missal, there is nothing idolatrous there. There is nothing idolatrous in what your priest wrote either.

As has been posted here d nauseum, to claim idolatry in Catholic is not a sustainable charge. No one believes the art or statues have any real power. Like looking at a picture of our family, they just help us bring to mind the wonder of God.

When you say that the Church is somehow promoting idolatry, you make us all doubt whether you are really sincere. It is an empty charge that even most Protestants are too intelligent to make.

I edited the post hence the conflicting statements, anyway this will end our discussion once someone resorts to ad hominem attacks it’s all down hill I don’t want another slap on the wrist…

I’ve explained my position several times and I stand by it, you are free to disagree I don’t care.

So if we want to truly Honour our Dear Blessed Mother give her joy not tears of sorrow then do what she ask us to do—do what ever Jesus ask! Then we are obedient to the commandment of God and give God Worship first by obeying his commandments in Honouring our Father and Mother! Read daily and study the Bible talk to God and trust in him only!

For only God can make us “Holy”, we could never earn or paid the debts of our sins, for the price was to high! God loves as so Dearly that he sent his beloved son for our salvation! Only through his son can we enter the Kingdom of God! Worship God!

God Bless and may his blessing and graces given freely to us all be will us always.

God said…Look up…look up not to a carve statue that cannot hear, talk, walk or carried about, dusted off, or pick itself up …could ever ever save you! God is a living eternal God all seeing all knowing has counted the very hairs on your head!

WOW Guanaphore I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed anyone who was able to slice and dice peoples posts to completely confuse and distort what it is they were conveying to the reader, that’s amazing it’s like a talent. You somehow quoted me 20 times (across multiple posts out of context) and didn’t actually address one thing I wrote in its proper context.

I’m sorry you’re bowing out before explaining why you don’t also object to Christians having “any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth”, also, “any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth”.

If any object is created for the purpose of veneration or worship it is wrong. I think a lot of images created for the veneration that are for the stte are idolatrous too. But really it’s just common sense. Comparing a photo of your dog with a statue of Mary that you look upon, speak to, offer burnt offerings before, bow or kneel and pray before is really splitting hairs to the point of absurdity.

I’m not bowing out of the discussion, just the discussion with people who resort to ad hominem or out and out insults to bait me only to report me (which has happened before) where because of my ideas I am treated not equally with the “good Catholics” who attack me first.

IOW, you have found a reason to reject the plain words of the text, while holding Catholics to those same words.

If any object is created for the purpose of veneration … it is wrong.
Please support that from the scriptures then. BTW, the Koran doesn’t count.

“You think”? 🤷

Did I miss a memo somewhere? Does anyone here talk to statues or worship them like he alleges?

Nice sermon…irrelevant to the thread topic and even to me. 🤷
You say…irrelevant to the thread topic…Thanking statures after confessing? Idol Worship that is the thread topic is it not?

What Idol worship was not the topic? Thanking Statues after confession. Does it not say in the topic “Idol worship” the catholic church does not what a debate on this do they? Even when you quote God’s word from the bible! And it is not picking here and there, they are answers Jesus gave when questioned and very simply to understand in this day and generation!

We can all run but you cannot hide!
So why do you post topics like this in the first place?

God Bless

I found that last bolded sentence to be so re-gosh-darn-diculous that I think we need to start a new thread on this elsewhere. So that is what I did:

Thoughts fellow Catholics?
Some parents beat their children to death.

Does that mean that the concept of parenting should be done away with and the kids should run rampant?

Or that the state should raise kids?

No, it does not.

Jesus answer Satan with the very word of God, that you seem to ignore. Is that why many younger people are leaving the church because they are reading the Bible and are questioning now this and that. Remember in the end God said you will need no one to teach you. I will circumzie your heart and all will know me.

God Bless–put your trust in God.

Iconoclasm (“image breaking”) is a heresy.

When someone says that I am worshiping a statue, what they are really saying is that they can read my mind.

As has been pointed out on this and countless threads, the Catholic Church does not encourage the worship of pieces of art. Accusing Catholic of idolatry, in light of all that has been posted on this topic, is a ridiculous. I will not speculate why people make these knowingly false statements things.

With that, I am getting out of this thread.

It is just regurgitated silliness

You say…irrelevant to the thread topic…Thanking statures after confessing? Idol Worship that is the thread topic is it not?
Sure, but you sermonized directing it at me.

Hogwash… the Catholic Church answered this issue long ago.
The pope at that time was Gregory II (713-31). Even before he had received the appeal of Germanus a letter came from the emperor commanding him to accept the edict, destroy images at Rome, and summon a general council to forbid their use. Gregory answered, in 727, by a long defence of the pictures. He explains the difference between them and idols, with some surprise that Leo does not already understand it. He describes the lawful use of, and reverence paid to, pictures by Christians.
Read it for yourself, the influence of Islam on some Christians. That’s the company you keep by espousing your misinterpretation of the Word of God.
We can all run but you cannot hide!
Yeah? I’m not the one that has been refuted and proved wrong around here.🤷
So why do you post topics like this in the first place?
Because I know that there is such a thing as absolute truth and my love and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ (who tells us that He is the truth!) makes me pursue truth and expose errors when someone presents them to my Catholic brothers and sisters. I know all too well the deception and misinterpretation as well as the misrepresentation of both the Word of God and Catholic teaching that some people choose to preach, and so when I find it. I respond with facts and scripture.

Please support that from the scriptures then. BTW, the Koran doesn’t count.

Go spend a week in the church and watch. Candles are lite, flowers at the feet of them, we bless them hello. I saw many weddings where flowers were placed by the bride and groom after the sermon to a statue and they kneel before it? Hello what church are you going to?

The Catholic Church sells them on tv EWTN. They bless them. They are brought home and put in a place of honour within the home. St. Paul beware of idols! In Anticoh there was a statue of Diana that they worshipped and St. Paul told them to “stop this practice”! They could not and would not because it made them money! Hello what are we doing? What is the difference because we make one to look like a saint or our Dear Blessed Mother which we have never seen our Dear Mother or Jesus, nor God who is divine!

Do what I say but do not do what I do?

God Bless

Just another generalization that I have not seen any support for. In fact the young people in my parish are some of the most on fire and faithful Catholics I have been blessed to know, and their ranks are growing steadily, and even more so as they read the Bible and see the Biblical basis for their Catholic faith.

In spite of your profile and protestations I don’t believe you are a Catholic. May God repay you if you have in any way sought to deceive us about that.

I know my church and parish very very well. I know that what you allege is untrue. Again, I don’t believe for a a second that you really are a Catholic.
The Catholic Church sells them on tv EWTN. They bless them. They are brought home and put in a place of honour within the home.
So? I don’t know of a single solitary faithful Catholic that worships images or idols.
**
Catholics brethren on this thread. Do any of you?**

That is a whole other (and unrelated) incident which has nothing whatever to do with this issue.

The difference is that you assert an unscriptural misinterpretation of the Word of God that does not in fact apply to Catholics, though I suspect you wish it did.

Frankly, I believe you are a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Presenting yourself as a Catholic when in fact you are not. You have already tipped your hand several times by referring to the commandments the same way that the Protestants do (the 2nd commandment that you cite) and showing the same errant system of interpreting the scriptures.

If you are lying then what does the word of God have to say about it? Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak; ye the truth every man with his neighbour; for we are members one of another.

Then I suggest you go and read your bible over and over and over Like I do. You do not like God’s answer because it goes against your will! And are you God and know all things and are not preaching your own thoughts? God’s word is God’s word when quoted from the bible. God’s word makes us all think just how foolish our own thoughts and reasoning is! We begin to see what is a myth that are not written. When we simple ask and trust in God, he teaches us very simply by what we do and see around us. To explain his word to us. Like little ST. Theresa who had no education and died at a young age, but her very simple statements made you think! Even the Catholic Church now calls her the Dr. of the Church!

I am no St. Theresa but dung on the ground, but she has brought me closer to God and Jesus Christ. God knows how very very little we all are! Mere mortals with human wisdom!

Read her diary, she had a purpose in this life to safe souls, like all of us.

Militant…I love you, But just simply talk to God ask him to teach you. He will answer you in his time, when you lest expected it. Do so also when reading his word. Now that is not taking you away from our Catholic Faith.
God Bless all we are all dearly love! God’s Peace be with us both Militant
