His firstwife is still alive
I have read a couple of times that Jackie Battley had passed away, that is wrong. I don’t know what happened with his first wife, but before marrying Calista, Gingrich asked the Catholic Church to annul his 18 year marriage to Marianne. The Church must of accepted it, and Newt’s first marriage to Jackie Battley must of been annulled as well.

Mitt Romney struggles to find a strategy to combat Newt Gingrich’s surge

“All along, everything has gone according to Mitt Romney’s plan. … But [his campaign] didn’t count on a late and strong rise by Newt Gingrich. … For this unexpected turn in what has been a steady and sure campaign, the Romney team has no road map. With just five weeks until the Iowa caucuses, the former Massachusetts governor and his advisers are trying to figure out what to do.” - Washington Post

“They’ll point out Gingrich’s past policy shifts which can protect them from attacks against Romney’s own inconsistencies. They’ll highlight Gingrich’s conservative apostasies as a hedge against Romney’s own moderate views. And they’ll highlight his stable family while leaving an unspoken impression about Gingrich’s two divorces.” - Politico

Karl Rove: Obama may be looking at historical elections for 2012 lessons - but the Republican field will not repeat past mistakes

“While there are some turkeys remaining in the GOP field, it is also unlikely that Mr. Obama will face a sacrificial lamb like Kansas Gov. Alf Landon in 1936 or a Republican as overconfident as Dewey was in 1948. Dewey’s strategy, he told aides, was “when you’re leading, don’t talk.” There’s every sign this year’s GOP contenders all understand they won’t win the general election simply by showing up, that Americans will (rightly) demand a substantive, positive agenda as the price of admission to the Oval Office.” - Karl Rove for the WSJ ($)

Obama struggling in CALIFORNIA?

“Forty-five percent of California voters say they are inclined to vote to reelect Obama, while 44 percent say they are not inclined to do so. Among independent voters, 41 percent are inclined to reelect the president, and 55 percent are not. Obama’s approval rating in the Golden State is at just 48 percent, according to the poll, with 44 percent of voters disapproving of his job performance.” - National Journal

He married her when he was 19. She was one of his teachers in High School I suspect those circumstances were part of the reason he was granted an annulment

Gingrich SMOKES ROMNEY in latest poll!!!

Gingrich 38%
Romney 17%
Cain 8%
Paul 8%
Perry 4%
Bachmann 4%
Santorum 4%
Huntsman 3%

That looks like a wash ladies and gentlemen. A WASH, and landslide result in a national poll.

realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html

Just so we’re clear here, Michele Bachmann never beat Romney in a national poll, period.
Rick Perry never beat Romney in a national poll by more than 19 points, his second highest poll he beat Romney by 15 points.
Herman Cain never beat Romney by more than 8 points.

Today, this Rasmussen poll shows Newt Gingrich 21 points ahead of Mitt Romney, nationally. That is a feat not achieved by any of the former “not-Romney’s”. And, can only be considered proof that this nomination is going to be between two men: Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

All 6 other candidates are in single digits in this poll, and I think they’re going to stay in single digits until January 3rd, when the Iowa Caucus is.

I’ve been reading up the Gingrinch guy and seems he is sound. Hope he makes it though

I a pro-life, but I am also a Democrat and I will vote for Obama in the upcoming Presidential election. Compared with the Republican candidates, that isn’t even a close call.
You’re pro life eh? So why do you say this then in the previous page:
Guys, thanks for the comments. I am well aware of Church teaching on this subject. If you want to bully every Catholic into voting for Republicans, you are welcome to try, but I don’t buy that line of bull. I’ve heard it said in these Forums that any Catholic who votes for Obama commits a mortal sin. That’s not true. It isn’t a sin at all. it is, in my view, a responsible decision, in fact, the right moral choice.

One of my problems is that the Catholic faith is being reduced to a concern for issues surrounding procreation and sexuality. Republicans, starting with Nixon, have used abortion as a wedge issue to appeal to Catholic voters, and have been aided and abetted by politically conservative bishops. Such a narrow focus on procreation and sexuality bears very little relationhship to the gospel of Jesus Christ, which should be the focus of Catholic teaching and practice.

The Church in the U.S. has gone astray. I’ll believe that the Catholic Church is truly a Christian church when abortion takes its subsidiary place in the hierarchy of truths, which is way down the list as compared to entering into and developing a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Creed, the preferential option for the poor, etc. This poisonous abortion debate has warped our values, making us less Catholic, less Christian. We’re turning into an angry, frightened little cult that is increasingly irrelevant in this country and for good reasons.

So keep up the rants on abortion, on how Obama and those who vote for him have the blood of innocent children on their hands, etc., etc. I don’t buy it. I’ll vote for Obama and I’ll fight for true Catholic Christianity.
You sound like a protestant heretic.

Actually this sounds like your typical pro-abortion Catholic. . They are engaged in what Archbishop Chaput descibes as :
  • Yet for thirty-five years I’ve watched prominent “pro-choice” Catholics justify themselves with the kind of moral and verbal gymnastics that should qualify as an Olympic event. All they’ve really done is capitulate to Roe v. Wade.*

As someone who is pro-life I agree that certain Catholics, especially here on CAF, go overboard and make abortion the worst of all crimes. They often are ready to bless ghastly wars, the killing of thousands, including many children in and out of the womb, but any medical abortion, even to save the life of the mother, is a SIN above all other sins.
Code:
It interested me that a nun out in Arizona was excommunicated because she went along with an abortion for a woman - a wife and mother of four. The medical profession stated clearly that a continued pregnancy would lead to her death and the death of the baby. Now, really. Are there any folks out there unreasonable enough to condemn that nun for her enormous concern for that woman, her husband, and those four other children? Who was more pro-life? The incensed Bishop or the dedicated, God-loving nun?

Religion carried to an extreme can be such an enemy of reason and simple common sense.

Why don't cats go to church? Because of the dogma there. Many people have left Catholicism for that same reason. God bless everybody.

Dan Quayle to endorse Romney
Not that it will matter much I don’t think.
Is there a reason why so many new links are tacked on to an existing thread, thereby unnecessarily prolonging this thread’s length even further? Dan Quayle endorsing Romey is its own individual story, particularly considering Ben Quayle (his son) is a ‘freshman’ rep in Congress.

It’s a blog post, so it can’t be it’s own thread. It is related to the 2012 GOP primary news, so this is a good spot for it.
