has Mexico ever won the World Cup?

if they would win, the country would go nuts!
 
Mexico has never won the World Cup. But yeah, their citizens would go bonkers if they did 😀

Eight nations have won the twenty World Cups that have been played so far (the current tournament is the 21st). Five of them have won it more than once, of which two have done so back to back. The last time that happened was in 1958 and 1962 (Brazil).

Argentina’s advancement from the group stage was near-miraculous. I’m thus not surprised they are eliminated at this point.

That Mbappé is amazing and he’s only 19! 😮
 
Considering the rest of my family tends to be divided between Germany and Argentina, this World Cup turned out to be the antithesis of last one. Sort of, but not totally, surprised at how early both of them got knocked out.

I’m not gloating, though. I may face disappointment later today if Portugal loses.

Both today’s games – France vs. Argentina and Uruguay vs. Portugal – are cases where I’m sorry that only one team can go on to the next round. I like all four of them.

Of course, it can happen the other way around, as well. There are games where I wish both teams could lose.

I can’t seem to post a link, but if you Google “world cup 2018” you should get to a screen that will show you recent and upcoming games, as well as brackets to show who’s still in – I think some 14 teams at this point.

Looks like France and Croatia are still in, but Poland and South Korea are out.

Are you cheering for a particular country to win?

My heart is with Mexico, but I’m not sure they stand a chance against Brazil (game on Monday).

If Mexico is out, then I’m cheering for Spain or any Latin American country (Uruguay, Colombia, or Brazil). What can I say, I’m half Latina, with my ancient roots in Spain. 😃

I’m also a quarter German, but they’re out. 😦

The next six games are:
Sun. – Spain vs. Russia, Croatia vs. Denmark
Mon. – Brazil vs. Mexico, Belgium vs. Japan
Tue. – Sweden vs. Switzerland, England vs. Colombia

The six winners of those games, together with today’s winners France and Uruguay, will go into the quarter-finals.

At least Croatia is still in…I just jinxed them didn’t I?
 
i don’t have cable or satellite so i am unable to watch any games. not sure if they show any over the weekend. late at night i will ocassionally watch a recap show.

i would like to see Spain win. i lived there in the 1970’s.

No dear, you didn’t jinx them.

In spite of all superstitions surrounding sporting events, what you do in your personal life before or during the game actually has zero impact on the outcome of the game.

Sad but true.

Fox carries some games, FS1, a cable station, carries the rest. Telemundo carries a lot of games too, but they comment in Spanish.

We’ve been watching the games using our digital antenna (don’t have cable or satellite either). The games are on our local FOX station as well as Telemundo – we can get both stations with our antenna.

Just saying, in case you live in an area where you can get a digital signal for local stations.
