It is bogus. God is under no obligation to show you everything.
Is He under any obligation to be honest with us?
How many more dimensions are there? Are you going to accuse God of being deceptive because you cannot see them? Is God deceptive because you cannot see the beatific vision? Is He deceptive because He does not allow us to prove Him empirically?
If we have a box of balls that have say three colors and we always select out one color we draw a faulty conclusion as to the makeup of the box. Say Joe puts on a pair of glasses that filters out one color. He now makes an assumption about the contents of the box. Who is right? Will you accuse God of being deceptive because Joe put on the filtering lenses? Will you accuse God of deceptiveness because I have a bias toward one color?
Does God know our limitations? Did He leave evidence of an old earth knowing our limitations? If He did, He is deceptive, your arguments not withstanding.

Do you know, with your own limitations, that He didn’t create the earth 4.6 billion years ago?

According to the creation story, man was created at the end of it as in the sixth day.

Now, all that was created including Adam is scientific, meaning physically discoverable.

Nothing could be discovered without the spirit of intelligence first being given to Adam.

Thus we have a marriage of intelligence (God’s spirit, breath as the bible says) with the scientific physical, (Eve) making of twain one living soul.

Both the physical sciences and the things spiritual (meaning God), are made to be discovered.

For a bright mind, (Those with high IQ’s) the sciences are a very logical avenue to find answers.

For the not so bright, faith in God over the physical sciences is preferred.

Those statements are not absolute, but vary in degree.

So, which of all of you hold the right answer?

I’m one of the not so bright ones, so I tend to have faith in God with whatever information there is available to me.

My faith in God respects all scientific discoveries, scientific views and allow for the variances of beliefs.

If one has faith in God, then those things belonging to God are enjoyed.
If one has faith only in the sciences, then those things belonging to the sciences are enjoyed.

Let us not forget though, that the common thread in both is intelligence.

A choice made by intelligence, independent of any entity except one’s own.

You are your own god, as a result of the marriage of the spirit and the body.

If all the answers were given to all our questions, would we than stop seeking?

The purpose of a mystery, in my opinion, is to keep the the fires of interest burning.

While this discussion is alive with interest, God is always the center of it.

For some, subtle discoveries of things pertaining to God are made.

Hence, the mystery is alive and well.

God is the creator of everything.Did God create the science of evolution? Cosmology? Geology? Do you deny His creation?

Peace

There are truths that are for God and lies against God. Those that are against God come by way of the enemies of God. And these lies serve one purpose, and that is to steal the souls of men.

You talk of evolution, cosmology, and geology and if God created them. You know the answer to that.

You must remember that all the wisdom of men is but foolishness unto the Lord.

We can spend a hunderd lifetimes and never come to the full knowledge of God. What man can comprehend all there is to know of God?

So remember that our modern day science is but barbarism to God. Yet, I believe that as science gets more advanced, more light is shone on God’s handywork.

Bingo! I think you are on to it 🙂 He sure has an obligation to be honest about what He reveals. That is why Genesis has to be respected. He had to be honest and know that Genesis would be read thousands of years in the future amid our discoveries and new knowledge. If not He indeed would be deceptive.

I cannot know many things including the 4.6 billion year question. So we agree it is speculative. Had I not ever read the Bible or studied the constant teaching and understanding of the Church I would have no problem accepting this conclusion.

As usual you and I come to the same point. 🙂

So, if the earth is not flat, how was Satan able to show all its kingdoms at once? If the earth is spherical – as moderns science now believes – some kingdoms would be on the exact opposite side of the globe.

If Satan used his power of "lying signs and wonders " 2 Thess 2: 9 then he could show the kingdoms of the world either together or one-by-one.🙂

Not from the same mountain, unless the earth is flat.

Have you considered some sort of program like Google Earth the devil might have had? Anyway it’s just as feasible as the “every eye shall see him” of Rev 1:7

If it was possible for the devil to carry Jesus to a mountain from which all kingdoms of the earth could be viewed, it would certainly have been possible for God temporarily to have created (and later uncreated) GoogleEarth. However, would Satan’s laptop on which he showed the kingdoms to Jesus have been a Mac or a PC? And would a mountain in Galilee have had a strong and consistent Internet connection for accessing GoogleEarth? I don’t know how strong a signal the Romans’ Jerusalem cell tower sent.

To all you Americans on CAF: Happy Memorial Day!

But far less “barbaric” than science was in the Apostolic era.

Questions, questions, questions … the uncertainty of it all … the curse of the intellectual class.

I believe in the theory of evolution but I also believe that Adam and Eve were two literal people as the Church teaches.

catholic.com/library/Adam_Eve_and_Evolution.asp
My understanding is this: that God wanted us to know who He is that created all there is.
That He gifted us with intelligence, at what point in human history is the question.

I believe in progressive evolution of information pertaining to the things of God as God sees fit to reveal.

The Caveman could have been the first, yet limited in knowledge, progressing in knowledge to the modern man as it is today.

The underlying fact is that God is the creator, that we have fallen from an everlasting estate, judgment passed and finally, saved from it all.

These are four distinct periods of revelation.
1.Introduction = Genesis
2. The fall =cast out
3.Judgment = death
4.Consequence met and salvation.

Jesus’ “days work” is divided into four distinct periods of six hours each.
1.Introduction =Jesus at the last Supper sundown 6pm to 12 midnight.
2, The Fall = Midnight to sunrise 6am= Jesus at the garden taking on the sins of the world
3. Judgment = 6am to 12 noon =Jesus is taken before the courts, judged and condemned.
4. Consequence met at the cross and the birth of salvation.12 noon to sundown 6pm.

That is what is key to all our understanding, not so much as to whether the earth is 6,000 years old or not.

And He left us plenty of evidence for the age of the earth and it is ~4.6 billion years old. That, too, has to be respected.

No, it is not speculation. It is a conclusion based on the evidence. We are not guessing.
As usual you and I come to the same point. 🙂
We clearly share the same basic faith in God and that is the important thing.

Yes I do but you clearly don’t.

How you come to the conclusion that our modern day science is but barbarism to God is beyond me. You clearly are comfortable using science every single day of your life (you are reading this on a computer that wouldn’t exist if it were not for science). I doubt that you avoid doctors when you are sick. I expect that you drive a car.

Your conclusion is baseless and quite bizarre.

Certainly I enjoy many of the things that come by way of science. Yet, as I said before, I trust in the science that does not try to disprove there is a God, not the science that attempts to prove they are God.

But far less “barbaric” than science was in the Apostolic era.
That goes without saying, but the point I was trying to make is all things are possible with God and through his spirit comes all truth.

Is science not a form of intelligence?

What I mean is that everything is a study.

There is intelligence behind every thing we see or not see.

There is a God!

Therefore, God is in us enabling us to discover His creations.

There would be no science without intelligence.

6,000 years is just a number.

Hos 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

12 apostles (multiplied) by 12 = 144 x 1000 = 144,000.

Those around Jesus followed Him wherever He went.

Rev 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

Does anybody recall reading in the bible of one individual who offered up the “first fruits” as a sacrifice and was rejected?

Jesus was a similitude of Cain offering up the “first fruits” but was instead rejected, and His own life required.

Ref: Gen 4:15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Who slayed Jesus? And was vengeance sevenfold not taken out on Him?

Sevenfold is a similitude of the seven day creation.

If Jesus was to be the Savior of the world, He must include everybody from day one.

I said all this to demonstrator that the number 6,000 is a simple number illustration for the baby believers that must grow up to maturity in spirit.

Why suppose it is such an issue. Is it no sufficient to conclude that God is the creator of all there is and that science is His own intelligence demonstrated?

Questions, questions, questions … the uncertainty of it all … the curse of the intellectual class.
And the blessing of the dullard?

What is good about less education/knowledge?

She we be like the Amish and stop going to school in the 8th grade?

Do you want a nation of knuckle-draggers?

Certainly I enjoy many of the things that come by way of science. Yet, as I said before, I trust in the science that does not try to disprove there is a God, not the science that attempts to prove they are God.
No science tries to disprove God. There are many scientists that do, but no science that does.

And I wonder why so many scientists do?
