I was wondering if anyone had a Catholic opinion concerning the Action Bible. It looks really cool to me. Would it be okay to enjoy or is there a Catholic Bible like it that you would recommend more? This would be for a big kid (me) and my son.

The problem is that they are only 91% bibles. I’ll bet you that they use the reformation edited 66 book Old Testament. This indicates a bias which no doubt runs through the entire translation Too bad, as it sounds and looks intriguing. Why not email them and request a Catholic edition?

Reviews by Catholic reviewers are positive and pretty unanimous that it contains nothing objectionable to Catholics. In fact, it is sold by Catholic bookstores. If it helps you and your son understand the faith, I see no reason not to use it.

You’ll always find a few Catholics that rail against anything connected with our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ, but I don’t see any logical or concrete reason in this case. Just a knee-jerk reaction.

I think Action Bible is fine as a supplement to an actual Catholic Bible.
It reminds me of a Sunday comic that used to run in some papers when I was a child, that would have a cartoon panel of a Bible story. As my parents were not big on the Old Testament, that comic was pretty much how I learned about Saul the king and his fall.
I suspect the comic was probably based on the KJV, but the comic panel did not really get into the types of Biblical details that would be different between KJV and Douay.

Hi Ray!

There’s the Contemporary English Version, available from Amazon that’s aimed at young readers. It has the Deuterocanonicals a well as Psalm 151and other Scripture.

It’s not Catholic, but I think you and your son will enjoy it.
