Will it be a person or a philosophy such as globalization or relativism??

He is a man but is completely possesed. I believe we are living in the time of the Antichrist ( Antichrist with a capital A…Hilter was a type of antichrist just as Nero was.) I am as sure of this as I am now sitting here writing this. He is here. He is now gathering wealth until the time that he will come into power when the world is thrown into complete desperation. He will preform a “miracle” that solves a serious global problem. People will believe he must be God and will fall down and worship him. Christians will believe he is the Second Coming of Christ. Jews and Muslims will believe he is the long awaited Messiah. And Eastern religions will believe he is the Matreya. He looks different to each who sees him. He appears to people differently according to what each person considers to be attractive. He is a liar and a deceiver. Use caution when trying to discover who he is because he will come to you and you will not be able to resist him without supernatural help. It is best to prepare yourself spiritually rather than to try to find out about him. You cannot recognize him unless your soul is in the state of Grace.

I think we’re in the End Times as well, but it’s just that awkward moment and we are experiencing as a global community where all the world is becoming more and more connected via globalization and cultures and religions are losing their identities. Could this be the stage being set for his rise?

yes, I agree with you. Globalization is necessary for the rise of the Antichrist. And a mixing and blurring of religion with the occult such as what we are seeing with the new age movement is definately necessary for him to gain acceptence. People are being mislead in so many directions. Be watchful with what happens after the next election here in the United States. Unless people turn back to God with contrition, amendment of life, fasting prayer, we cannot turn back the tide that is about to engulf us. Currently, politicians and world leaders are trying to make Canada, the United States and South America a union…like the European Union. Then our laws will not be our own, but someone eleses.

The general consent of the Fathers and Saints (it’s unanimous as far as I can tell) is that it will be a person. Here’s what the Catechism says about the Antichrist’s deception:

**675 **Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.573 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth574 will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.575

**676 **The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism,576 especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.577

573 Cf. Lk 18:8; Mt 24:12.
574 Cf. Lk 21:12; Jn 15:19-20.
575 Cf. 2 Th 2:4-12; I Th 5:2-3; 2 Jn 7; I Jn 2:1 8, 22.
576 Cf. DS 3839.
577 Pius XI, Divini Redemptoris, condemning the “false mysticism” of this “counterfeit of the redemption of the lowly”; cf. Gaudium et Spes 20-21.

I will beg God with faith and great humility for faith and great humility. In Jesus’ name, save us!

Where did you get all this from?

But as, when formerly He was to take man’s nature, and God was expected to be born of a Virgin, the devil created prejudice against this, by craftily preparing among idol-worshippers fables of false gods, begetting and begotten of women, that, the falsehood having come first, the truth, as he supposed, might be disbelieved; so now, since the true Christ is to come a second time, the adversary, taking occasion by the expectation of the simple, and especially of them of the circumcision, brings in a certain man who is a magician, and most expert in sorceries and enchantments of beguiling craftiness; who shall seize for himself the power of the Roman empire, and shall falsely style himself Christ; by this name of Christ deceiving the Jews, who are looking for the Anointed, and seducing those of the Gentiles by his magical illusions.
  1. But this aforesaid Antichrist is to come when the times of the Roman empire shall have been fulfilled, and the end of the world is now drawing near. There shall rise up together ten kings of the Romans, reigning in different parts perhaps, but all about the same time; and after these an eleventh, the Antichrist, who by his magical craft shall seize upon the Roman power; and of the kings who reigned before him, three he shall humble, and the remaining seven he shall keep in subjection to himself. At first indeed he will put on a show of mildness (as though he were a learned and discreet person), and of soberness and benevolence: and by the lying signs and wonders of his magical deceit a having beguiled the Jews, as though he were the expected Christ, he shall afterwards be characterized by all kinds of crimes of inhumanity and lawlessness, so as to outdo all unrighteous and ungodly men who have gone before him displaying against all men, but especially against us Christians, a spirit murderous and most cruel, merciless and crafty. And after perpetrating such things for three years and six months only, he shall be destroyed by the glorious second advent from heaven of the only-begotten Son of God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus, the true Christ, who shall slay Antichrist with the breath of His mouth, and shall deliver him over to the fire of hell.

The Roman Catholic catechism seems to say that it is more of an anti-christ philosophy.
Richard Wurbrand, a Jewish Christian who suffered for his faith under Russian communism believed the anti-Christ was atheistic communism.

Historically, Antiochus Epiphanes who defiled the Jewish temple in 167 B.C. was considered a type of the anti-christ. Nero was also a type. Since the ‘holy place’ or temple in Jerusalem does not exist, many would say the anti-christ is a philosophy of sorts. If a Jewish ‘temple’ is established in Jerusalem, it would seem that the ‘anti-christ’ of the last days will be an individual. This would be the individual of which Jesus Christ speaks of in Matt.24.

Most importantly, “perfect love casts out fear”. So we must desire above everything else to abide in the love of God. Such love that will enable us to even love our enemies. We must also be willing to ‘take up our cross daily and follow our Lord’, because ‘whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake and the gospel will save it.’ “Fear not him who is able to kill the body, but rather him who is able to destroy both body and soul in Gehenna.” We need to be very resolute in our faith, love, and commitment to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Well the antichrist is certainly an individual. The scriptures attest to this several times. St. Paul referring to him as the son of perdition, and man of sin.

2 Thess. 2:3 [3] Let no man deceive you by any means, for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, [4] Who opposeth, and is lifted up above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.

And revelation says the number of the beast is the number of a man

Rev. 13:18 Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast. For it is the number of a man: and the number of him is six hundred sixty-six.

The spirit of the antichrist can exist apart from the man himself, and the spirit of the antichrist is denying that Jesus is the Christ.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denieth the Father, and the Son.

So I think, from the very little we know about the antichrist, we know at least two things for certain: The antichrist will be a person, and he will deny that Jesus is the Christ.

now other things could provide clues, but its pure speculation.

Like in the verse I quoted above from Thessalonians; Paul talks about the antichrist setting himself up in the Temple and setting himself up as God.

A precursor to this is detailed in 1 Maccabees 1:57-60

[57] On the fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred and forty-fifth year, king Antiochus set up the abominable idol of desolation upon the altar of God, and they built altars throughout all the cities of Juda round about: [58] And they burnt incense, and sacrificed at the doors of the houses, and in the streets. [59] And they cut in pieces, and burnt with fire the books of the law of God: [60] And every one with whom the books of the testament of the Lord were found, and whosoever observed the law of the Lord, they put to death, according to the edict of the king.

King Antiochus Epiphanes set up an idol of Jupiter Olympius on the altar of God in the temple, and as you can see here it is referred to as the abominable idol of desolation, mirroring the words of the prophet Daniel:

Daniel 11:31 And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual [burnt-offering], and they shall set up the abomination that maketh desolate.

I believe these are types of the inevitable antichrist, just as other men have played that role throughout history whether it be Antiochus Epiphanes, Nero, Caligula, Hitler, whoever.

Now this is purely my opinion, but if the antichrist does indeed need to set himself up in the temple as God, then that means the temple would have to be rebuilt at some point, and for that to happen, the dome of the rock must be no longer be standing at the point in time when these events take place. Would that happen as a result of a war? who knows. just my speculation; feel free to interject on this point, im interested in any and all opinions.

I am not one to speculate as to how such a temple would be built, only that the various vessels and garments for temple worship have been made for a third temple, and continue to be made as we speak.

THE ANTI-CHRIST(S)

First, let me define what I mean when I refer to the anti-Christ. The word, anti-Christ, does not refer to all non-Christians who do not believe that Jesus is the true Son of God. There are some non-Christians, and some other religions, that view Jesus as a great man of God, but not necessarily the Son of God or the Savior of the world. But then there are others who defy Jesus, turn their backs on Him and would do anything to denounce Him as one who does not have any association with God and should be ridiculed and despised. They wish to turn other people away from having any respect or faith in Christ and will go through extremes to carry out their mission. These people would be classified as “anti-Christs”.

Now that I have said that, know that some, but not all, when discussing The Book of Revelation, often refer to the Anti-Christ.

For example, Revelations 13 and 14 refer to two beasts, one of which bears the number 666 (Revelation 13:18). Many Theologians believe that number is usually identified with Nero, the first Roman emperor to persecute the Christians. (Romans assigned values to the letters of the alphabet). Some today believe that 666 refers to an individual person (one of the beasts) who will be the Anti-Christ when he arrives.

The actual word “Anti-Christ” isn’t even mentioned in Revelation - not one single time; but is mentioned in 1 John where John says: “Children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the anti-Christ was coming, so now many anti-Christs have appeared” (1 John 2:18).

In my opinion, what is meant here is that there is not to be one single anti-Christ but, as Paul said, “many anti-Christs“. These are and will be evil doers throughout the world who deny Christ. Anyone who denies and turns their back on Christ is an “anti-Christ” (but refer to this definition in the first paragraph above) and they are many - and they are among us right now. But if one is looking for the “King” of anti-Christs, then I would go with the “Devil” or “Satan“. He is the head of the anti-Christ’s army and he is, and has been, very active in the world to the present day.

I don’t believe we should be looking for an individual person to be “The” anti-Christ. We should already know that the Devil, who is head of the many anti-Christs, is already alive and well in today’s world, as are his followers. And remember, the Devil can probably transform himself into a human and act as “the” anti-Christ who some are waiting for. But we shouldn’t spend our time looking for the one “anti-Christ” (Devil in disguise or otherwise?), but rather should spend our time seeking out those who defy Christ, and do our best to lead them into becoming followers of Jesus.

As most of you already know, each generation in the past has come up with their own anti-Christ; from Nero to Hitler, and a few since then, who were believed to be the anti-Christs in generations past… We shouldn’t just look for one anti-Christ - all true anti-Christs have the same mission - and that is to turn all of us away from our belief that Christ is truly our Lord and Savior.

As for as the end times - Only God the Father knows when this will be. His own Son, Jesus, said “only my Father knows“. We can guess, as many have guessed throughout the ages, but we will never know when the end times will come unless God reveals this to us, and He hasn’t done so yet. What He wants us to do is to be prepared for the end times regardless of when it comes. If we knew it was going to come on a certain date in the future, there would be many who would not worry about this date until that time came near - and at that time they would seek God out for fear of going to Hell.

As for me personally, I believe my end time will come when I die, so I should be prepared at all times. Why worry about the world’s end time in the distant future; we should be worrying about our own end time while, at the same time, attempting to bring our wayward brothers and sisters into a Christian faith.

The term can be used in both senses. At any given time, a person may attract the label “anti-Christ” on account of their behaviour. Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot were all types of Anti-Christ.

It can also apply to a movement or ideology. Hardline Communism certainly had an Anti-Christ message. So did Nazism. So is the hard line atheism of today.

However i think in the ultimate sense it will be a single person, working hand in glove with the devil, which is how he will get his power. That’s where the Third Reich got it’s terrible power and sinister brilliance from, but the devil failed that time. I think he’s in the process of trying again.

It would seem the Anti-Christ will suffer a real or simulated death and resurrection, just as Christ did (hence the full meaning of the term). And I can quote Bishop Fulton Sheen on that - at least the “simulated death and resurrection” bit. I’ve got a DVD of a retreat he lead, and he used the exact term in relation to the Anti-Christ.

My own opinion is that he’s a particular American politician (not Obama, despite the dislike of some I’ve read on this forum), since the USA is the only power which can enforce it’s military will around the globe, and also has the technology to enforce the corollary, “No-one could buy or sell without the mark of the beast”. The bloke I’ve got in mind is certainly a clever and consummate politician.

From the comments I’ve read by various saints of the past, he will have a lot of charm, and at first will appear totally unlike a Hitler figure. The gloves will come off later.

He’ll appoint ten “kings” (more likely politicians these days) around the globe to rule various areas for him as it would be too much for one person to handle. Around 1991, my old Protestant pastor and I were discussing various political figures, and he nominated a certain Australian political figure as our “King”.

It started when I made the comment that I thought a certain Australian Prime Minister would cause a lot of trouble.

He responded that he thought that if there was going to be an Australian politician who caused trouble, he thought it was someone else, and named him. At the time this seemed very unlikely to me, but indeed a few years this person did become PM for some years, against all the predictions of the time. However the pastor himself was dead by this time. His prediction that he thought the politico would become PM was accurate though.

Now the pastor wasn’t much given to “end-times” stuff. Most of it originates from the USA and he found a lot of it was, to use his own words, “a bit weird”. A lot of the frantic atmosphere of US “end times prophecy” can be traced back to the US civil war, which had a tremendous impact on a religious nation.

He pointed out the Europeans didn’t have the same attitude, yet they had a much longer Christian experience and history, including the immense violence of the Reformation.

Getting back to his nomination for our “King”, he commented, “He’ll be a real little tyrant. About the only thing we’ll have going for us will be his age. I don’t see all these things happening till he’s in his seventies.” Well, the particular politician he nominated did become PM a few years later, and he turned 70 last year. He was also at great pains to ingratiate himself with some US politicians. I personally suspect he knew that was where his future power would come from.

So if the old pastor was right, we are living in the age of the Anti-Christ, and sometime in the next nine years at the very most he’ll seize power.

I found the pastor wasn’t wrong very often.

If that’s the case, fun times are ahead of us. I don’t think.

well there are a couple people that think that the temple itself did not sit were the Dome of the Roc k is but over to the side a bit that would allow for the rebuilding of the Temple without destroying the Mound of the Rock.

John Howard is not the Anti Christ if he is then he needs Australians to actually like him first. He was actually a great PM and never chased the popularity vote. John Howard is more concern about being the head of the world cricket board. Now unless the world cricket board has a secret agenda to control the world i doubt that old Johnny Howard is going to do anything. I think Americans need to realize that your super power status has gradually declined and you may need to look elsewhere for
