The day humans stop hunting is the day humans stop being human.

The day wolves stopped hunting is the day they became pets.

(Yeah, yeah I know there’s hunting dogs, but they don’t hunt independently and it’s my analogy anyway)

When humans choose to, or are forced to stop hunting we will no longer be free.

Same things regarding humans who ride motorbikes, climb mountains, explore, race cars, sail oceans single handedly etc.

Spence, I’m really trying to get a handle on where you stand regarding animals. I asked before and I’ll ask again; if your house had a family of mice living in it…what would you do???

Really? So humans will evolve into a different species if we stop hunting? An interesting theory of evolution you have there! 😃
Thanks for asking:👍

Yes, we’ll DEvolve into latte sipping, birkenstock wearing vegetarians who think they are a superior species.

But who are neither truly free nor superior.

I think most animal rights activists see animals as superior to humans. I think some would travel miles to take a thorn from a dogs paw, but would do nothing if a human were bleeding to death in front of them.
Agreed, especially what the likes of PETA and the Animal Liberation Front have been doing.

shudder

What a bleak future indeed.

Ugh…animals are not humans, bottom line.

Why is this thread still going?

Here’s another thing to think about: part of teaching kids how to hunt is teaching them how to **enjoy **hurting and killing sensitive creatures. Does that not strike any avid hunter as the least bit odd? That strikes me as grossly repugnant, no different than teaching a child to enjoy kicking a cat around.

Anything that is good or morally neutral can become disordered. If someone was hunting only for the thrill of the kill that would be disordered. However, there is nothing wrong with enjoying hunting when your motives are hunting for food, population control, a fun day spent appreciating nature etc. (IMHO)

Dead creatures aren’t sensitive. I think this is a strawman. No one actually teaches their children to enjoy the hurting of animals. The goal of hunting, the reason for practice, is always a clean kill.

What needs to be taught is a *balanced *appreciation for nature and an appropriate stewardship thereof. Also, the feeling of accomplishment at being able to provide for one’s family is part of teaching how to be an adult, whether done through hunting or gardening.

Stop anthropomorphising prey animals, and demonizing hunters.

Bad vegan. Bad.:tsktsk::tsktsk:

We don’t need to since hunting is intrinsic to the human nature, AND the reason we developed big brains.

Spencelo, you are obviously a caring sensitive soul, which is a good thing. God creates us all with different temperaments for different purposes. Animal abuse is morally wrong I agree. However, if you had $50 would you send it to a starving child or a starving horse? You may not believe in this, but God may be calling you to be an advocate for the disadvantaged, abused or the unborn.

I think hunting is appropriate for tribal societies that have respect for the animals they hunt and kill, and use the animals for their sustenance. And do not overkill and push animal populations to extinction.

There are hunting tribes, such as the Semai for SE Asia, that are extremely peacable people…much more so than us violence-prone Americans.

I think Americans engaging in hunting, OTOH, may be harmful, esp for children. We have already shown we are a genocidal people, having comitted genocide against Native Americans and taken over their lands, and are now living well off that genocide and robbery. And we have very high murder and assault rates. What we really need now is lives of penance, self-reflection, and peace-making, not killing of animals or people. That would be the ideal.

I personally have a strong aversion to guns and killing animals and I have an appreciation for all of God’s creatures…tho I do (I confess) kill mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and even mice that get in my way… and I’m not completely a vegetarian, tho I aspire to be one.

This thread has inspired me to put forth more effort in going back to being a vegetarian (which would also be good for my health).

How many inmates in the USA hunted?

I would think a tiny minority.

Hunting, and a father teaching his children to hunt, instills respect for natural law.

And natural law is something we Catholics like, right?

My dad was an avid hunter and trapper. I grew up around hides on the walls, animals on the ground and with a gun in my hand. I NEVER abused animals. Ever. I still wouldn’t grab a cat by the tail or needlessly tease a dog. My dad taught me a very healthy respect for animals.

You kill them quick. Don’t let them suffer. Oh and I know you’re going to post your little links again but instead of trying to push your viewpoint why not listen for once? We’ve seen all your links, but we still say WE DO NOT LET THEM SUFFER. A quick kill does not make the animal suffer. Most animals don’t even know they’re being hunted!

Anyway. I’m the most gentle person you’ll ever meet. 🙂 I’d never hurt a human being (in my entire life I have never hit another human. In any way) and I would never, ever needlessly harm an animal. But if I’m hungry, I’ve got no qualms eating good old Bessie who’s out in the pasture doing nothing but eating and sleeping.

And please, please, don’t post your links. I don’t care about your links. They don’t convince me.
