The BBC News is extremely Anti-Catholic!

That article itself seems pretty balanced. The links below there are a few that portray Roman Catholicism in a negative light but there are also some interesting pieces on good things that have happened to the church, like immigrants causing an influx of parishioners… I think your over-reacting.
 
It seems to me that many Catholics have this misguided notion that the Catholic church and its members are supposed to be treated differently by the press than others. No. they are not. I think we’re often confusing the fact that press members don’t care that a subject is wearing a collar for being anti-Catholic.

I think we would be satisfied with being treated equally to others in the press. That is not the case, however. Just for an example, the sex abuse cases. This goes on in every religion, and studies say it goes on least in the Catholic Church. But you’d never know it by reading what the media writes. Additionally, a child is 100 times more likely to be sexually abused in the school systems of this country than by a Catholic priest. But you’d never know that either, would you, by what the media prints.

I say either print it all, or print none of it. But don’t single out the Catholic Church as if it’s the only one, even though Catholic priests should be held to a higher standard.
 
The Catholic Church is being demonised. It has the biggest charity in the world and the only organisation bigger than that charity is the UN, but no, our Church is evil because our priests don’t abuse children as much as those of other religions and school teachers.
 
To be fair, the BBC is carrying live coverage of the Pope’s Masses and the prayer vigil in Hyde Park - if they were completely biased they wouldn’t do this. They will also be showing a programme about the Vatican’s art and architecture, having been given exclusive access to the bits the tourists don’t normally see. The DG of the BBC is a Catholic, by the way.

It REALLY would not look good for the BBC NOT to cover the Pope’s visit, wouldn’t it?

I mean, it’s THE TV station In England. They HAVE to cover such an important state function. Remember that the Pope will be meeting the Queen as weel as holding masses and prayer vigils. So that argument does not hold water. :mad:
 
There are a lot of state visits they only cover as news reports - not with live coverage of the actual visit, as they are doing in this case. So this one IS a bit out of the ordinary.
I don’t think the BBC is any more biased against Catholics than the other channels. Channel 4 is particularly bad.

The BBC coverage will be worth watching because it will have Professor Eamon Duffy as a commentator, as well as Mgr Mark Langham
 
I agree that the BBC News is anti-Catholic. However, so is a lot of the “mainstream media”. As another poster said, they seem to focus on Catholic priest sexual abuse pretty much to the exclusion of sex abuse by members of any other religion, including clergy members of any other religion. And the fact is, one is less likely to be abused by a Catholic priest than they are to be abused by a member of the clergy of some other religion or even by a public school teacher!

Apart from the omission of the fact that John Cornwell, whom the article refers to as “Newman’s biographer” as if he was the only or official biographer, is a notoriously mendacious anti-Catholic bigot. His book on Newman is a lowbrow hatchet job
 
a follow up to his even more notorious pack of lies “biography”, Hitler’s Pope.
 
As someone in the midst of conversion and pleased that the Pope is coming to my home country, i had reservations about his visit nevertheless. My priest said that it could really kick off, meaning that it could be disastrous. I don’t watch the BBC, the quality of its programming is vastly inferior to what it was fifteen to twenty years ago. Even though i don’t appreciate the garbage on there in the UK one has to pay for a TV license, which pays for the BBC. Its law.
If the BBC do, indeed, go out of their way to do a hatchet job on the Papal Visit (despite the extensive coverage) i for one will not be renewing the tv license, though, no matter what. The thing that annoys me most is that the bias is always against Christians, and Catholics in particular. The BBC uphold political correctness beyond belief. Islam cannot be criticized, Judaism, Hindu-you name it. It seems a particularly spineless type of bullying that they’re intent on, and i despise bullies. Fortunately, i haven’t yet got into any heated debates about the Papal visit-which is just aswell, as i’d probably lose my temper and put someone through a window, which is not particularly conducive to my spiritual progress.
So i’ve been praying every day that the visit goes brilliantly and i implore everyone to do so.

God our Father, shepherd and guide,
look with love on Benedict, your servant,
the pastor of your Church.
May his word and example inspire and guide the Church,
and may he, and all those entrusted to his care,
come to the joy of everlasting life. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

There was a long article by him in the weekend UK Financial Times basically claiming that Newman was a liberal and the pope is using the beatification as a way to paper over that so he can exert his desire for conservative domination over the church. The article was full of factual errors, for example he defined the magisterium as the teachings of the pope, so I don’t put much faith in the rest of the article.

I wonder how much of the antipathy towards the Holy Father’s visit is due to the imminent collapse of the Anglican church and that so many people are going over to Rome.
