Maybe we just want to worship God without being told how to do it from men?

Sorry if I am being rude, but I have been told I should come back to the “true” church that its getting rather annoying. Maybe I should, but I’d rather do it after I am done and am ready to go on my own accord.
ChristianKnight, Sorry if I am being rude but lets face it how is it that you worship God in your glorified Bible study session. Lets see you sing a few songs to get revved up, then your preacher reads some scripture, then he tells you what they mean for the next forty five minutes. so when do you worship GOD? Before you tell me by learning the word of GOD, why is it that in a Catholic mass we read two to three times as much scripture, so does that mean we love him more? Yes I know there are a lot of Catholics who don’t know scripture like the Protestants, but we go to mass to WORSHIP, to bring HEAVEN down to EARTH to be in the presence of GOD himself and unite ourselves with Jesus. you see while your reading about him, we are basking in his presence. It seems real simple to me.

intolerable? I do not think my church would kick anyone away cause of their beliefs…we have had all kinds there.

scandalous? I only know a word that has to do with that, scandal, and last I checked the SB never had any sort of scandal…
Either willfully or otherwise, you don’t appear to understand what I wrote. If you’re insinuating excommunication in your post, then you also don’t understand what that means. The person excommunicates themselves by their own free will.

If one were to interpret correctly what was written (you may want to use caution, this habit will bring you closer to Catholicism), it would be related to one of Jesus’ last requests before ascending to Heaven. He prayed that we be one, just as He and the Father are one. Since many have broken away from the Church Jesus built and go their own way, this is a scandal. As for tolerance, do you promote or say that it’s tolerable that people willfully disregard what Jesus asked for us? I say it’s scandalous and intolerable that we are not one, as Christ asked of us.

By the way, God has already asked you to be in the Catholic Church. Are you paying attention?

You seem to know more about our Church then I do…

When did Jesus say if you left the Church you’d go to hell? Honestly, did he say that, I don’t know, I haven’t seen that.

When did he?

Sorry for being rude, but I am kinda angry atm.

That was horribly rude. Your response is uncharitable at best.

and let me see, I was Catholic for over 30 years and I never once got a glimpse of an impression that there was any worshipping going on during mass. Empty ritual is more like it.

and if you are going to pick on Christians, at least do so for something other than them reading the Scriptures. Scripture Is Authority. Hence my name SIA.

I don’t see the need to be angry, but perhaps that’s why you apparently can’t see straight. Please go back through my quote above that you responded to, and please tell me where it says anything like what you stated above. Did Jesus not pray that we all be one, as He and the Father are one? Jesus established His one Church so that there would be one dogma, one doctrine, one Lord and Savior, one Body of Christ. Why did He do this, and then ask that you not be in it?

I forgive you. However, please go back and reread what I wrote, with the idea in mind that the Catholic Church does not teach that you have to be formally in the Church Jesus built in order to be saved. That said, the excuse is invincible ignorance.

Do you mind if I ask you a question? If you will, please tell me where Christ told us it was okay that we not be in the one Church that He built?

The Bible is a “Catholic Book”, therefore, everything in the Bible, in one way or another supports Catholicism.

Ignorance of Catholicism is ignorance of the Bible.

Your thoughts?
AMEN

Scripture is indeed the inspired Word of God. We thank God for it. Can you please tell us, what is the pillar and ground of truth? Is it the Scriptures?

Since you ally yourself with the phrase Scripture is Authority, then I hope you won’t mind telling us which came first, the Church or Scripture? In Christian History, did Scripture spring from the Church Jesus established, or did the Church Jesus established spring from Scripture?

I’m sorry to trouble you further, but can you please tell us if you can interpret Scripture infallibly? If yes, this is really something! If not, then how can one determine if what one is understanding is the authoritative Word of God as He meant it. I’m confident that one can see the problem if one takes as authoritative an incorrect interpretation of Scripture. Are we then really following God’s Word at that point? Following a false interpretation could be disastrous to one’s spiritual life. As we know, Satan too quotes Scripture, but doesn’t provide interpretation as God intended.

Thank you.

You only get from mass what you bring to it. Sadly, if one doesn’t understand the mass, and believe, then they won’t get anything from the mass. No one who had even a slight idea of what the mass truly is, would say it’s an empty ritual. If you bring none of yourself to mass, you get nothing from it.

The mass is the most wonderful thing I do all week, and I get a tremendous amount from the mass. I thank God for the mass, where we apply the infinite merits of Jesus’ Passion and Death on the Cross to our lives. The Eucharist is an incomparable gift of Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

i agree. how can anyone describe the Mass as an empty ritual.
they missed something somewhere.

i am a new catholic and i get so much out of the Mass. i am moved each time i attend.

i love both parts of the mass.

maybe you need to return and see what you missed.

I do not know, but where did he say we didn’t believen him if we didn’t?

btw: can you answer the question I asked which was “When did he” as in “When did god tell me to join the Catholic Church?” I didn’t hear or see him tell me to do it, so I am really lost.

No, I don’t do you think they were better than us?
No, I do not because we have the same living organism for spirtual guidance and knowledge that they did: The Catholic Church.

Your answer, however, puzzles me. As matter of fact, it should puzzle all Protestants who adhere to Sola Scriptura: If our society currently has the full compliment of God’s Word (27 NT books), how is it even possible for you to say those earlier communities (with less than 27 books) **WERE EQUAL **to yours?

It’s a contradiction for Sola Scripturists. Such people need to really think long and hard about this dilemma and offer a counterargument or consider abadoning the ideas of Sola Scriptura all together.

Can you give me a reason why you think not having all 27 NT books (like those early Christian communities) **IS EQUAL **to having all 27 books (like all Christian societies since the 5th century)?

Those early Christian communities did not have all 27 books, yet you claim they had the fullness of Christianity. How is that even theologically possible for Sola Scripturists???

What authority put Scripture together?

Well to say that the Bible is a “Catholic Book” is to show ignorance of History and historical fact. The Bible is a Jewish Book written by Jews about the Jewish Messiah. The Bible predates the Catholic Church by thousands of years.

In fact the New Testament was Predates the Catholic Church.

The Term “Catholic” was not used till roughly 103 AD or CE… The Last book of the NT was completed roughly around 90 AD.

For the first 100 years of “Christianity” it was considered a sect of Judaism.

So the Bible is Jewish and we as Gentiles were blessed by the Jews for keeping a record of God so that we could come to understand and worship their Messiah.

Actually, to say that is to show ignornace of history.
The Bible is a Jewish Book written by Jews about the Jewish Messiah. The Bible predates the Catholic Church by thousands of years.
The Jews would vociferously disagree with you. The Bible contains the New Testament, hence it is not a Jewish book. The Old Testament is.
In fact the New Testament was Predates the Catholic Church.
Are you saying the entire New Testament was written the moment Jesus rose from the dead? Oh, you are not saying that…good. Then what existed after Jesus’ Resurrection and the first penning of a New Testament book? Why do you think that whatever existed was no longer needed afterwards?
The Term “Catholic” was not used till roughly 103 AD or CE… The Last book of the NT was completed roughly around 90 AD.
I agree, but the word Trinity is nowhere to be found in the Bible either, yet why is that nonbiblical word used freely among Protestants today?
So the Bible is Jewish QUOTE]
You are wrong. Only the Old Testament is Jewish. The New Tesatment was written by Christians.

Hunmmmmm! i called this the hearers and doeth of the Word.
while others worship is just heares of the Word. unless you called claps and yelling doers of the Word.

Peace!

Dear CK, here’s my personal answer.

In my case, I didn’t hear a voice or have a private revelation to make me become Catholic. It was a process which began when I first became a Christian. It was 16 more years before I became a Catholic. During that time, I joined a supposedly non-denominational church which turned out to be Southern Baptist - long story. So I was taught to read and interpret the Bible for myself.

During that time, I answered an altar call. Looking back, I was caught up in the emotionalism; in reality I had given my life to Jesus back when I had my conversion experience (which was a private revelation).

As I read and re-read the Gospels and Paul’s Epistles, it became obvious to me that anything that seemed contradictory had to be reconciled with what we know Jesus preached. (As I like to put it, “what do the red letters say?”)

I also began participating in a now-defunct Bible Study forum. It became obvious to me that most posters were concentrating on Paul; even more, on just a few of his letters, to the exclusion of the Gospels. I decided I wanted a truly Christ-centered church.

Catholicism never crossed my mind; I saw the Church as a ritual- and legalism-bound human entity. But when I began researching it - here in the Catholic Answers library - I kept finding myself saying “but that’s what** I** believe!” over and over.

So I decided to find out why the Church taught against things I believed in - like contraception. When I saw the love and the God-centeredness of the teachings, I began to think I needed to become a Catholic.

From your sig it appears that you have chosen to join the Baptist church. Oh, well. I’ll continue to hope that you’ll find as I did that the Catholic church holds the fullness of truth.

Affectionately,

Ruthie

Have I stated that you or anyone who is not Catholic automatically doesn’t believe in Christ? This belief in Christ is a wonderful beginning, from which one can come to the fullness of truth, in Christ’s Church. We have to ask ourselves, though, is belief in Christ all that is necessary? Even the devil and evil spirits believe in Christ. We must also do what He asks us. The devil who also believes in Christ does not do what Christ asks of His followers, those who love Him.

Do you have eyes, but do not see? I’ve stated before, God created one Church for His entire family. I’ve given this more detail as well. Do you think He asks us to be in a church which He did not build? Are you expecting a call on a mobile phone, rather than seeking Him and cooperating with the way He established things?

Yes, even though one declares they want a certain destination, but are in the wrong type of vehicle, or are on the wrong road, is one who is lost to a lesser or greater extent. Only God can judge how much.
