We didn’t watch the show. It may be well produced, written and/or acted but I just don’t see how it can lead people to turn to Jesus based on the premises presented in the opening episode so I won’t bother. We don’t have any problems with shows like this being produced or aired.

As my kids put it:
I don’t get how this guy who has been buddies with Jesus most of his life, having conversations with him all along the way to the point of becoming a priest, would have such a messed up family.

Something’s not right. It doesn’t make sense that Jesus wouldn’t have helped him early on so that these problems with his wife and kids could have been nipped in the bud.

Either this show is going to send the message that a close relationship with Jesus doesn’t really help you, or it’s going to show why priests shouldn’t be married. We doubt it’s to help people see why priests shouldn’t be married so why bother watching how they go about explaining why a man of God would have all these problems in his own family. One or two, yeah, but every single member of the family has serious issues!

Then again, we’re still mourning the loss of Joan of Arcadia…
If people always did the right thing when God is around, then why did Cain kill Able? and why did Peter denied Jesus? And why did David get into his trouble? The minister’s family could become dysfunctional not just because the father was doing anything wrong, but out of ommision of doing what is right, which might very well happen as a busy minister.

Looks like more stations and sponsors are jumping ship:
**More affiliates drop ‘Book of Daniel’
**
‘Anti-Christian’ show down to just 1 national advertiser

Two more NBC-TV affiliates have dropped the new series “The Book of Daniel” in response to the protest of viewers who consider it offensive to Christians.

Stations in Nashville, Tenn. and Amarillo, Texas, announced this week they would no longer carry the program, says the American Family Association, which launched a protest campaign last month. Earlier, stations in Terre Haute, Ind.; Tupelo and Meridian, Miss.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Beaumont, Texas, dropped the show. The NBC affiliate in Hattiesburg, Miss., also is considering not airing it.

Um, yes there is. It is the second-level clergyman in the three-fold ministry of the Episcopal Church. Deacon, Priest, and Bishop.

If they call that minister a priest, then let’s not be so disrespectful and call him something else. Good lord, Jesus called us to love one another, not to belittle!
We are Catholics. It is the teaching of the Catholic church ( APOSTOLICA CURAE ) That there are no valid Sacraments,or Apostolic succession in the Anglican church. So there can be no,priesthood !
Especvialy since the 1970’s the Anglicans have by their actions afirmed this truth.

Clearly, Apostolica Curae superceeds Jesus’s command to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Whether or not WE think their priesthood valid, they call that Minister a priest. Our of respect for them, I will too, and I will properly address a male Anglican priest as “Father.” (Not sure how to address a female one)

We Catholics throw temper tantrums when other Christians disrespect us and our beliefs. Why must we behave the same way?

I think it would have been more realistic to have the minister with one or two family ‘problems’, but every person in his family is behaving in a non-Christian manner. To me, it just seems rather insulting to pastors in general.

The premise of a pastor walking/talking with Jesus as he goes through life is great. I was expecting the wife to be a good mother, perhaps one child to have alcohol, drug or self-esteem issues, and my kids too, having seen the commercials thought it would be along those lines…watching a spiritual man and his wife deal with the issues all us parents deal with. But then when the published promos ran down the list of dysfunctions it took the premise out of the realm of reality to ‘let’s throw everything in the mix to see what sticks’ and that’s what insulted my family. It read to be a crass attempt to use Jesus as a draw in for viewers. We didn’t want to see Jesus used in that dysfunctional of a setting, especially since we’re still mourning the loss of God in everyone as depicted in Joan of Arcadia. I guess JofA set the standard for us in how to use faith to reach a cross-section of viewers.

By calling an Episcoapal minister, father. You are giving him an honor reserved for Catholic or Orthodox priests. If you are worried about being civil , just call him reverend !

Looks like the body count is now 11 stations:
Three More NBC Affiliates Drop 'Daniel’

Three more NBC affiliates have dropped “The Book of Daniel,” bringing the number of stations not airing the program to 11.

KNWA in Fayetteville and KFTA in Fort Smith, both in Arkansas, and WTVE in West Monroe, La. have joined stations in Nashville, Tenn.; Terre Haute, Ind.; Little Rock, Ark; Amarillo, Beaumont and Tyler, Texas; and Meridian and Tupelo, Miss. in canceling the controversial program.

musicman,

One does not have to waste their time watching shows like that to know it is no good. Do you need to “watch” porn movies to know porn is bad? If enough data is out on a movie or book, then that is plenty enough to decide whether to wactch/read or not. I have not read the Dav Vinci Code to know it is against the faith, against the Church, against Christ, and against Opus Dei.

Networks do not deserve our viewership when they make such garbage.
Amen. I don’t have to eat doggie stuff to know it tastes bad.

On another board I frequent, someone wrote H&R Block about their advertising on the show. Here is a link to the response he received from them:
