I find your post to be “utterly bombastic, pompous, and practically bordering on the ridiculous,” and undeserving of further comment.
Facts are facts and the TRUTH hurts. May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to the real truth, not something cooked up by a man.

Another set of questions that come up:
    • Why are the Temple rites so much like the Masonic rites?
    • Why were those rites “received” shortly after J. Smith became a Master Mason?
    • Why is the BoM called “Another Testament of Jesus Christ” ignoring Galatians 1:8-9?
    • What about the elephants in the BoM?
    • How come people are asked to listen to their heart when the heart is wicked?
    • Why do the BoM and D&C contradict each other in some cases?
    • Why do the BoM and D&C contradict the Bible in some cases?
    • How come the BoM is considered most correct when there have been clear changes while there haven’t been any changes in the Bible?
    • And what about these things established by the BoM…
    • Jesus is the Son of God. 1 Ne 10:17; 11:6-7, 24; 25:16, 19; 31:11-21; Jac 4:5-11; Hel 3:28; 3 Ne 9:15.
    • Jesus is the son of the Father. Al 5:48; 3 Ne 11:7; 12:19; 14:21; 18:27; 28:8, 10; Mro 4:3, 5:2; etc.
    • Jesus is God. Title page; 2 Ne 10:3-7; 11:7; Mos 27:31; Mn 3:21; Eth 3:18; etc.
    • Jesus is the Father. The Eternal Father: Mos 15:4; 16:15; Al 11:38, 39. Father of all things, Father of heaven and earth: 2 Ne 25:12; Mos 3:8; 7:27; 15:4; Al 11:39; Eth 4:7; Hel 14:12; 16:18. Father of the redeemed: Mos 5:7; Eth 3:14.
    • Jesus is both the Father and the Son. Mos 15:2-3; 3 Ne 1:14; Mn 9:12; Eth 3:14; 4:12.
    • Jesus has a father and a God who is a separate and distinct person. Jac 4:5; 3 Ne 11:7, 32; 17:16; 19:18-31; 20:46; 26:2, 15; 27:28-30; Mro 7:27; 9:26.
    Which one is it now?

  1. Good luck in trying to get an answer.

That is entirely incorrect. We did not recognize their baptisms long before they decided to retaliate by not recognizing ours. The LDS Church refused to recognize the baptisms of other churches almost from the day it was organized. Other churches continued to recognize LDS baptisms for a long time before they decided to retaliate by not recognizing our baptisms. The “tit-for-tat” action was taken by them, not by us.
I think we’re still in agreement, Z, as I believe that the LDS church began with the belief of a great apostasy in other faiths, to include religious covenants like Baptism, therefore a baptism by a proper church “authority” was necessary when joining. I also agree that it took awhile for many other groups to understand the doctrine and alternate history that the LDS church was relaying, and it was on the study of these things that it was determined that the LDS baptism didn’t qualify for the New Testamant Covenant put forth by Jesus.

On further thought, I think Tit-for-Tat was the wrong phrase for me to use, as it would assume an equal action. “You don’t recognize us, therefore we don’t recognize you…” I think it was more cause and effect. Because of the alternate views of Christianity put forth by the Mormons, and because those views aren’t accepted by traditional Christianity, then traditional Christianity does not accept as valid or necessary the ordanances of the Mormons.

LutheranDK, you hit the nail on the head as for more truth being found in the RCC than the Mormon church. If it were a baseball game, the umpire would have called the game after one inning based on the “mercy rule;” i.e. the game was basically over before it began. I’ve said it before and will say it once again, read “Under the Banner of Heaven” if you want some incredible (and I must say objective) insight into the early going-ons of what JS was doing both before and after his “encounter” with Moroni. The back and forth banter on this web has been sometimes enlightening, sometimes contentious, and sometimes is reminiscent of two kids yelling back and forth to each other the same slur, “And so is your mother!”

Another set of questions that come up:

1 Why are the Temple rites so much like the Masonic rites?
2 Why were those rites “received” shortly after J. Smith became a Master Mason?
I do not as a rule discuss temple matters in a public forum.
3 Why is the BoM called “Another Testament of Jesus Christ” ignoring Galatians 1:8-9?
“Testament” means “covenant”. In modern revelation the Lord has identified the Restoration as a “new and everlasting covenant,” and the Book of Mormon as effectively the text of that covenant, as shown in the following verse:

D&C 84:

57 And they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon and the former commandments which I have given them, not only to say, but to do according to that which I have written.

There are many passages in LDS scripture that refer to this new covenant; here are some more:

D&C 22:

1 Behold, I say unto you that all old covenants have I caused to be done away in this thing; and this is a new and an everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning.

3 For it is because of your dead works that I have caused this last covenant and this church to be built up unto me, even as in days of old.

D&C 84:

47 And every one that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit cometh unto God, even the Father.

48 And the Father teacheth him of the covenant which he has renewed and confirmed upon you, which is confirmed upon you for your sakes, and not for your sakes only, but for the sake of the whole world.

“Another Testament of Jesus Christ” means “Another Covenant of Jesus Christ,” which is what the Restored gospel and the Book of Mormon effectively are—the old covenant having been broken through the Apostasy.
4 What about the elephants in the BoM?
Remains of elephant-like creatures called the Mammoth has been discovered in America.
5 How come people are asked to listen to their heart when the heart is wicked?
They are not. They are asked to listen to the Holy Ghost.
6 Why do the BoM and D&C contradict each other in some cases?
For the same reasons that the Old and the New testaments appear to contradict each other in some cases.
7 Why do the BoM and D&C contradict the Bible in some cases?
Ditto.
8 How come the BoM is considered most correct when there have been clear changes while there haven’t been any changes in the Bible?
Already answered.
9 And what about these things established by the BoM…
  • Jesus is the Son of God. 1 Ne 10:17; 11:6-7, 24; 25:16, 19; 31:11-21; Jac 4:5-11; Hel 3:28; 3 Ne 9:15.

Which one is it now?
All of them.

That is what I am doing all the time.

Well I think that going to a mormon church would be the same as going to a mosque…
Mormon church - they’ll do their best to brain wash you.
I think that going to a mormon chruch would be like dabbeling in the accult! 😉

xxx zundrah xxx
probably…

hmmm… :hmmm::coffeeread:

i started to read this book once… but didn’t get far because i read something… weird…

i would like to know what the Book of M says… but not enough to bother reading it…

too many other good books out there…

and so little time… 😦

For the same reasons that the Old and the New testaments appear to contradict each other in some cases.

One must remember that the New Testament is the ANSWER to the Old Testament, thereby creating a new covenant with God through Jesus and His teachings. They might in fact contradict each other, say in certain practices of ordinances, but the NT is a graduation from the OT, and they must be seen as linear versus comparative.

Blessings,

i don’t u/stand…

in the OT God said to stone homosexuals…

does that mean that God was once a savage homophobe and that today he thinks it’s ok to be gay?

I’m being somewhat facetious… but uh… i would like to know some kind of “answer” to this seeming dilemma… this seeming contradiction…

God does not change… but apparently his laws to us do…

I wouldn’t suggest stoning homosexuals or anybody else for that matter. In fact, we can readily see the transition between the old covenants with God, and what we see as the answer to those covenants. May I suggest something. It’s a bit of a fun exercise to try if you’d like. Take your Bible, and read some things from the OT with the idea that God has basically said “Do this stuff and behave, and I’ll send someone down to straighten you guys out shortly.” (Now I’m being facetious. :p)

Then, read some things from the New Testament, with the idea that Jesus has said “Okay. Here I am to straighten you guys out. Here’s how we’re going to play this thing now.”

I believe that our understanding of what God says to us now and through history should be viewed by examining the sensitivities of the day. Now, stoning is a barbaric example at any time, but we shouldn’t judge God’s word by our individual sensitivities, or anything else. Nor should we stone anyone. Except maybe Zerinus.:rotfl:

God hates homosexuality as much as he did then. God doesn’t change…

no, i don’t think we should stone them… but i do believe it should be a crime and in many states in the US it is a crime… or was until recently… it is a perversion…

and God said “You are not your own…” Our bodies are not ours to do whatever we want with… homosexuality is like abortion in that once it is legal, everyone thinks it is right…

if nothing else, homosexuality spreads a death-dealing disease…

Perhaps, but I’m not as outspoken on the matter as you. God’s purpose for me is different. Through prayer and reflection, we may understand God’s will for us, not as a people, but as an individual. Much like my son may come to me for guidance, I may go to my Father in Heaven. For whatever reason, God has made me with a patient tolerance, so it’s hard for me to condemn anyone. It’s not my job. It’s as He chooses.

Regarding your original question, I can only give you my experience when I tell you that prayer works when you have a question. God answers. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to listen.

Blessings,
X
