It comes across, when it is deliberately aimed to provoke a response from someone who has already bowed out of a previous thread, as aggressive, and also unnecessary when that individual continues not to engage. It runs the risk of making those who have continued this thread amongst themselves appear obsessed.
I have addressed some of these issues on their site, but with the exception of a few, they have replied without rancor or sarcasm, or ridicule.
And ridicule is not funny
Something you may not have picked up on is that many of the posters involved in these threads is that they were mormon at one time or another.
These former mormon posters are quite knowledgeable in what was taught in mormonism, and are also very well versed in their Catholic faith.
What you perceive as ridicule, sarcasm, etc. is what you are reading into it.
The tough love that is going on is just that. Tough Love. Hopefully forcing them to look at all of the holes in their so called theology.
Most people who leave mormonism, leave because they studied their way out. They studied so hard to defend it, that they found they were defending an illusion.
Pointing out the errors and contradictions gets these people to study. See the connection?
Remember also, that many of the posters on the mormon threads have been around quite a while, and have been posting quite a while. We have established friendships, relationships, and understanding of others posting style.
Another thing to remember is you cannot detect “tone” in the written word on a forum such as this. Something I may type/say in sensitive charity, make be taken as ripping someone’s head off.
I would also like to repeat. The moderation styles between the boards is totally different.
A free exchange (within reason) happens here at CAF. That same exchange at MADB is stifled by heavy moderation.
I have all the respect in the world for the moderation here at CAF. Eric has done a fantastic job cleaning things up in this forum. Trust me, I wouldn’t want that job.
