You misunderstand me, which is probably my fault. We aren’t required to view the narration of the flood as a literal occurrence. We understand scripture in more than the sense of the literal. What the story of Noah conveys is Salvation. It does in fact have deep meaning, but whether or not the earth was covered in water isn’t the point of the story (even if the waters were deep)! The doctrine we are required to believe is Salvation, baptism, God’s mercy, etc.Really?!?! Is there some sort of doctrinal list of required beliefs vs optional beliefs?
I watched bit of this video…Catholics aren’t required to believe there was a literal flood. The building of the ark isn’t the point of the story. But if you want to make it the point, it describes methods of ship building that existed in ancient times. These methods did not exist in isolation, for the building of the ark, and the ark alone.
So, where are the ships of the pre-Columbian new world? If/when a man learned such a marvelous skill as shipbuilding, he would have passed on the skills to his sons, and his sons, and his sons.
I thought you were going to tell me it lead to another beer. Circular reasoning, don’t ya know.I watched bit of this video…
I then felt compelled to open a Leinenkugel Classic Amber. It had been in my refrigerator since July. Interesting how the Spirit can move us. I was thinking about the video… looking at the beer label and really never given much attention to the “Leinekugel Indian Maiden”. So as I drank my beer I was thinking about the maiden and her being Indian. And Joseph Smith’s belief that the American Indians had their origins coming from Jerusalem on this boat. Then I thought about science and DNA showing no…this little Maiden came what was likely China…no middle eastern dna in her at all.
Funny how a video can lead you to a beer…to a Maiden…and to the Truth. I credit the Holy Spirit.
I’d like to see BYU send a mission to the Middle East and…
Now that would be a missionary feat…
- Trace the steps through desert.
- Make a boat with tools at the time from the little patch of green
- And sail the boat to America
I’m not much of a beer drinker which is why this story is so amazing. They are in the house for any guests that would want one…and there are none left anyway.I thought you were going to tell me it lead to another beer. Circular reasoning, don’t ya know.
I’m more of an Amaretto Sour kind of guy.
Used to do Grey Goose, but vodka wise, it would be Three Olives.I’m not much of a beer drinker which is why this story is so amazing. They are in the house for any guests that would want one…and there are none left anyway.
Grey Goose is my drink…on ice, straight, w/two olives.![]()
I drink Natural Light beer. But for the hard stuff, Southern Comfort is always a winner.Used to do Grey Goose, but vodka wise, it would be Three Olives.
If I’m going to drink (and that is very rare), I will stick with Amaretto.
i take it you mean what i was referring to Kath? The Egyptian writings were finally translated.
What they were about is giving instructions in how to mummify the dead.
Think about it.
The difference is, a ship was made to the specifications of the ark and was very seaworthy. Experts have stated there is no way the nephi boats could have made it across the oceanThis isn’t the first time God gave a prophet instructions how to build a new type of ship.
Genesis 6:14-16 (KJV)
15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
- Make thee an ark of gopher wood; brooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
Are you looking for 2600 year old maritime log of ship passage? And why is ship replication important in this case? Was Noah’s ark replicated?
What about those silly Jaredite boats? Holes in the top and bottom? My favorite " And the Lord said unto the Brother of Jared, Behold, thou shalt make a hole in the top thereof, and also in the bottom thereof; and when thou shalt suffer for air, thou shalt unstop the hole thereof, and receive air.The difference is, a ship was made to the specifications of the ark and was very seaworthy. I think you are referring to the Book of Abraham…which was supposed to have come from Reformed Egyptian languange…whatever that is.i usually partake in the muslim threads, but isnt the book of mormons based on egyptian hieroglyphics?
The Book of Mormon was the so called “Reformed Egyptian”. The book of Abraham, is real Egyptian, but is a funeral text.I think you are referring to the Book of Abraham…which was supposed to have come from Reformed Egyptian languange…whatever that is.![]()
You mind giving me a reference to one of these “experts”?The difference is, a ship was made to the specifications of the ark and was very seaworthy. Experts have stated there is no way the nephi boats could have made it across the ocean
