Dear Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner, and so undeserving of Your mercy.
But I call upon You now with all conviction, and I ask You now to please forgive me all of my sins, for You know them all.
You are the only One who can forgive me, and take away my sins.
You are the only One that can save me from sin, death, Hell, and the wrath of God (by that one and only historic Sacrifice You made for us, in Your Body and Blood, while on the cross).
And, I thank You now for bearing the cross for us, paying the ransom in full, and setting us free from Satan’s lies and strongholds.
Thank You for forgiving me, redeeming me, saving me, and granting me everlasting life, as You have promised.

The Greek word “Gospel” does mean: “Good News!”

The following is from another thread as the subject of Jesus (pbuh) calling his followers to ‘jihad’ is not really related to the topic of that thread:

Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus (pbuh) unequivocally says that he is God and then proceeds to command his followers to worship him.

On the other hand, the Bible does indeed record that he unequivocally says the following:

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. … Matthew 10:34

Why then do Christians insist on believing that Jesus is God i.e. something that Jesus himself NEVER said or emphasized throughout his ministry… and yet they refuse to believe that he came not to send peace on earth i.e. something which he did indeed say very clearly and categorically as recorded in Matthew 10:34??

If Christians do believe that salvation can only be obtained by believing in Jesus Christ, then they certainly have a most bizarre way of showing it.

This is akin to someone who is struggling to stay afloat in the ocean and he grasps at a straw i.e. the belief that Jesus is God, in attempting to save himself from drowning… but yet he ignores the lifebuoy i.e. the belief in the things that Jesus actually says in the Bible, which has been thrown right in front of him in the water.

At the Table in the Upper-room where Jesus and his disciples were having the “Last Supper”, he prepares the disciples for the impending showdown with those who wanted to harm them.

"When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything?" And they said, “Nothing” Then said he unto them, “But now, he that hath no purse, let him take it, and likewise his bag; and he that hath no SWORD, let him sell his garment and buy one!” … Luke 22:35-36

". . . Lord, behold, here are two SWORDS." And he said unto them, “It is enough” … Luke 22:38

This is a clear and obvious preparation for ‘Jihad’ by Jesus (pbuh) and his disciples.

"And, behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his SWORD, and struck a servant of the high priests, and cut off his ear." … Matthew 26:51

The Christian missionary, so as to retain the impression of the “meek and gentle Jesus”, “the Prince of Peace”, pleads that the SWORDS were spiritual! If the swords were spiritual, then the “garments” must also be spiritual. If the disciples of Jesus were to sell their SPIRITUAL garments to buy SPIRITUAL swords, in that case they would all become SPIRITUALLY naked!Furthermore, one does not lop off peoples physical ears with spiritual swords.

You’re just grasping at straws when you deliberately twist Bible verses like that.

As a newcomer to these forums I was interested to see a Muslim making posts here - convinced of the rightness of everything he has been taught about Christians and requiring us to give an explanation for ourselves.

But Hamba, you know as well as I do that the Koran and the Hadith according to the 4 jurisprudential schools of Sunni Islam and also Shia Islam insist that the words of a Christian are not reliable.
Why do you ask us any questions at all - since the Koran and the Hadith have already told you everything you need to know about Christian beliefs?

We tell you that they are mistaken and you conclude either:

1. That we are fools - and do not even know what Christian beliefs really are.
2. Or that we are liars - and are refusing to tell the truth about Christian beliefs.
3. Or that we are malicious and are accusing the Koran of being untrue.

For all three cases you need not pay the slightest attention to anything we say. The whole of Islamic tradition will require you to hold this position.
Therefore I am forced to conclude that you are here in order to bring us to the “truth” of Islam - and if we still hold fast to our Catholic Faith it’s because we are either stupid, deceitful or wicked.

Then again, you might be here because deep, deep down, when you read the Gospel and see there the Jesus of the Christians (and not the Isa of the Koran) you hear a tiny voice that says:
“And what if this is the REAL Jesus?”
And then you go from that Jesus who, nailed to the Cross prayed, "“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” and you look at Mohammed with his intrigues and his battles and his wives and booty and his 6 year old wife Aisha - and you say to yourself:
The Kaffirs might be fools, dishonest or malicious - but their Jesus is greater than our Mohammed.
And you would be right.
But you still haven’t understood how or why: you who have been brought up to think that greatness lies in power, submission and conquest…
But keep on asking your questions, Hamba because Jesus promises us:
“Knock and the door will be opened to you. Seek and you shall find”.

Give us, ONE, just ONE battle lead by Jesus or any of His disciples either in NT or Tradition.

I have pointed out this preparation for battle in this thread whereby Jesus (pbuh) leads his disciples after the “last supper” in the upper room.

He had proved himself a skilful strategist and planner, alert and resourceful. This was not the time to sit and twiddle thumbs; to be a sitting-duck, cooped up with his disciples in the upper-room! No, not for him. He leads his disciples, in the middle of the night, to Gethsemane — an olive press — a courtyard built of stone walls some 5 miles out of town.

You do not have to be a military genius to appreciate that Jesus (pbuh) deploys his forces as a master tactician. He places eight of the eleven disciples at the entrance to the courtyard, commanding them:

"… Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder." … Matthew 26:36

The question is: – Why did they all go to Gethsemane? To pray? Could they not have prayed in the upper-room? Could they not have gone to the Temple of Solomon, a stone’s throw from where they were, if prayer is all that they wanted to do? No! They went to the Garden so that they might be in a better position to defend themselves!

Observe, Jesus does not take the eight with him to pray. He positions them strategically at the entrance to the courtyard; armed to the hilt, as the circumstances would allow:

"And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee. . .
Then saith he unto them. . .
tarry ye here and watch with me." … Matthew 26:37-38

Where is he taking Peter and John and James now? Further into the Garden! To pray? No! To make an inner line of defence — he had put eight at the Gate, armed with SWORDS, to "wait and watch " — TO KEEP GUARD! The picture is very vivid; Jesus leaves nothing to our imagination. A-n-d HE (alone) prayed!

These figures are utter hogwash. The entire population of Europe at that time would not have supported such slaughter. Secular scholars place the figure at more like 3000 for ALL the Inquisitions combined.

Islamic prophecy came by the will of a man called Muhammed who’s and evil, and false prophecies are predicted in the Holy Bible…The religion of Babylon the Great, the whore of Babylon, the Abomination of desolation, Apollyon, and Abbaddon.

The word Allah means destroyer…and so do the words above.

The false God Allah, his father Satan, and his false prophet Muhammed, and his deceived jihadist Muslim followers are prophecied in the Holy Written Word of Jehova God Almighty to bring tribulation upon the world and lead us to Armegeddon.

I posted a few articles on this thread as to what evil lies within the hearts of your Muslim brothers and sisters involved in jihad. Here is a brief History of the Islam you and some Catholic’s may not be aware of.

A Brief History of Islam

Many Muslims in America are promoting the idea that Islam is a religion of peace, and that Islamic terrorists are an aberration of true Islam. To get the best view of Islam we must study its history.

The Birth of Islam

The most frequently given date for the birth of Muhammad is 570 A.D., 571 being the second most cited date. He became a prosperous merchant and had six children by his first wife. The first four of his children died, then later his wife also died.

In about 610 Muhammad was contemplating in a cave when, Muhammad claims, the angel Gabriel spoke to him, stating that there was no God but Allah, and he was the messenger of Allah. The tribes people of the Arabian peninsula were largely animistic, worshiping trees, rocks, wells, springs, and caves. Muhammad did nothing for two years then began to make a few converts in Mecca, telling people they should no longer worship idols. His wife was his first convert. Muhammad and his band of followers were severally persecuted by local tribes people in Mecca and he had to flee to Medina in 622. It is from this point that the Islamic calendar begins. The year 622 is year 1 on the Islamic calendar.

Muhammad proceeded to raid the caravans of his enemies, and war literally waged between them. At one point Muhammad slaughtered 700 males of an enemy and the “women and children sold as slaves” (Armstrong, Islam: A Short History, p.21). Muhammad eventually won the war and proceeded to conquer all the tribes in Arabia.Many of the tribes practiced idol worship, and sorcery. Muhammad destroyed the idols throughout the land. He did not convert them with missionaries, but with the sword.

Muhammad died from a head wound in June of 632 at the age of 61 or 62. After his death some of the tribes reverted to idolatry but the “wars of riddah (apostasy)” (Ibid, page 25) forced the people to practice only Islam. But Islam was not satisfied with being the only religion, it wanted to rule politically as well.
Mohammed and his successors carried on a jihad for many years until all other political regimes in a wide geographic area surrounding the “cradle of Islam” on the Arabian peninsula had succumbed to Muslim rule. (Dennis, The Rise of the Islamic Empire, p.21)

Islam believes that there are two states of existence in the world, the place where Islam rules is called the area of peace, and the place where Islam does not rule is the area of war.In other words, war is to be used to make Islam the ruling religion, politically, in areas that are predominately Christian. Once Islam gained rule of a nation they would enact social and political policies and practices that gave great favor to Muslims and made it difficult to be a Christian; in this way they gradually gained Muslim converts, and over many hundreds of years, Islam gradually became the dominate religion. This is called the Islamization of a nation.

After unifying Arabia under the banner of Islam, his followers attacked and waged war against the Christian Byzantine Empire and the Persians. They also attacked Persian and Christian caravans and plundered trade goods by both land and sea:
Pirate raids at sea, as well as along the shore, preceded the Moslem conquest of North Africa and the islands of the Mediterranean. In 649 Cyprus was taken, and Rhodes ravaged by Moslem pirates. (Ward, Pirates in History, page 59)

From the very beginning, any nation that did not allow for the free practice of Islam was seen as hostile to Islam, so warfare was justified; that nation was invaded and conquered to allow the practice of Islam. Such conquests were “opening” up that nation to Islam.

Since the Byzantine Empire (present day Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Armenia) was officially Christian, all other religions were forbidden. That was all the reason the Muslims needed and they invaded Byzantine lands and waged war with it for 800 years until all that was left was Constantinople which they finally conquered in 1453. Constantinople is today called Istanbul. (This is the root of the conflict in Bosnia.)

So you can just image the large numbers of Christians that died or were enslaved as a result of 800 years of warfare with the Muslims. This was the reason for the Crusades, though the Crusaders murdered many innocent people, the reason for the Crusades was to take land which had been taken by Muslims, particularly the Holy Land and city of Jerusalem. If Muslims had never invaded Christian Palestine there would not have been any Crusades.
The first Islamic empire began by invading Persia, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, and Egypt between 633-642. Muslims invaded Jerusalem in 637 A.D. and later built the Dome of the Rock about 687A.D. When the Caliph arrived in Jerusalem in 637 to see the city he had conquered, the Patriarch of Jerusalem (Sophronius), said to a fellow priest, “So this is the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel the Prophet as standing in the Holy Place!” (Payne, The History of Islam, p98).

When the Arabs invaded Morocco they slaughtered 35,000 Christians and their blood was literally flowing through the streets. The Arabs then removed their white hats and dipped them in the blood of the Christians, which is why many Muslims wear red felt hats today,call Fez; the slaughter took place in a city called Fez (Fes). These hats are a testimony to the blood of innocent people. Cyprus was taken in 649, North Africa between 670-698. Spain fell in 711. The Muslim advance in Europe was stopped by the French, but it continued eastward into India.

One writer describes an Islamic ruler named Hajjai,
Masudi says his [Hajjai’s] whole life was like a trail of blood, and among his victims, not counting the innumerable soldiers who died in his wars, were 120,000 innocent men and women. At his death his prisons were choked with 80,000 prisoners, and Masudi notes as a sign of his especial inhumanity that “six thousand of these prisoners were completely naked and made to shift for themselves.” (Payne, The History of Islam, p.130)
So now we know why there are so many Muslims from Africa to Bangladesh, the sword of Islam.

Muslim Piracy

Plundering one’s enemies, namely Christians, became a way of life for the Muslims in the regions of Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Italy, the islands of the Mediterranean, and Asia Minor (which is Turkey), North Africa, and even part of Spain. When the nation of Algeria was called Algiers, Muslim pirates employed by the ruler of Algiers would capture European and American cargo vessels and enslave the crew and passengers.

When a new ship of captives arrived the people would yell at them calling them"Christian dogs." And would say to each other, “The Christian dogs are very cheap today” (Holmes, Burton Holmes Travelogues, page 33). Doctors, lawyers, and well known people would be free noblemen one day and find themselves sold into slavery the next, quite often they were galley slaves, used to row the pirate ships or were used to cut and move stone for the construction of Mosques and palaces. Even the famous Cervantes, author of “Don Quixote,” was sold at auction in 1575. He gained his freedom after five years and wrote about the ruler of Algiers,

“Every day he hanged a slave, impaled one, cut off the ears of another, and this upon so little animus or so entirely without cause that the Turks would own that he did it for the sake of doing it and because it was his nature.” (Ibid, page 33)
Muslim piracy in the Mediterranean was a problem until well into the early 1800s when America and European nations finally decided to do something about it and sent in their warships and even conquered some nations, thus ending Muslim piracy. But to the Muslims this was “colonialism.”

Ottoman Empire

Later another Islamic empire ruled most of that part of the world, the Ottoman Empire which ruled from about 1300 to 1921 when it was defeated by the British in World War I. It lost all its domains except for what is now its home country of Turkey. The Ottoman Empire continued the assault upon Christian nations and took the territory on each side of Constantinople and eventually defeated it in 1453, ending 1100 years of Christian life and culture. It was the massive walls of Constantinople which held back invaders for a thousand years. The residents believed that if the walls were ever penetrated by an enemy, it would signal the end of the world. Perhaps it is no coincidence that Islam breached the walls of Constantinople and will be responsible for World War III.

The Muslims entered Constantinople, pillaging and plundering. The magnificent church called Hagia Sophia (Church of Divine Wisdom), built by Justinian, the grandson of Constantine, was filled with Christians who fled there, believing that they would not be killed it the church; they were wrong. The church was turned into a mosque.

The army of the Ottoman Empire was greatly feared. Many nations of Europe had to fight off the Turks, and Russia has fought 8-12 wars with them. Turkey has committed numerous massacres of Christians during its history, and the violence continued even into this century. Armenia became officially Christian in the last part of the 3rd century and has suffered enormously over the course of its long history as it was invaded by several different empires and nations, including the Arabs and later the Turks which ruled it until well into the 20th century. Turkey committed,

. . . atrocities that shocked the world, including massacres estimated to have caused the death of 200,000 Armenians in 1896 alone. . . . Armenia became the battleground for Russian and Turkish armies during World War I . . . As World War I continued, Turkish atrocities against Armenians increased, and the reports of the atrocities finally led the government of the United States to send a formal note of protest to Turkey on Feb. 17, 1916. The massacres continued, however, and privations and famine added to the death list, which reached an estimated total of 800,000 Armenians during the war period. (Funk & Wagnalls New Ency. V. 2, p. 287)

Many refugees fled to America, which is the reason there are millions of Armenians in America today. Part of Armenia is now in Turkey and part in Iran. As a result of the massacre in 1896, the Christians on the Turkish controlled island of Crete rose up against the Muslims and “was the signal for the outbreak of long-repressed anti-Muslim hostilities in Greece;” Greece then declared war in April, 1897 (F&W, V.23, p.359). Conflict has continued between Greece and Turkey.

During World War I Turkey was allied with Germany and was defeated by the British so it lost control of its Middle East and African dominions. Several nations were created as a result of the British victory over Turkey such as Jordan, Iraq, and Israel. This is the reason the Palestinians claim that Israel (and Britain) stole Arab land!

Throughout the existence of Islamic rule, Christians paid heavy taxes and were usually kept in the lower economic level.

Islamic Violence Today

The history of Muslim violence is not limited to the two Islamic empires, all Islamic nations have persecuted and killed Christians, and the killing continues to this day.

Many Asians work in Saudi Arabia doing domestic and other manual labor and face imprisonment, torture, and death for practicing their Christian faith. “Two Filipino Christians involved in Bible studies and Christian prayers in the Saudi prison where they were jailed were beheaded by the sword on May 4, 1997 in Riyadh” (Open Doors International Office, www.serve.com/sonrise/silence/arabia.htm)).

The New Foxe’s Book of Martyrs provides examples of the type persecution and murder that Christians in Muslim countries must endure:
[In 1991] Mary Khoury was 17 when Damour, her village in Lebanon, was raided by Muslim fanati when about 5000 Muslims,mostly young Quranic students, invaded Potiskum with the same shouts.

The Muslims burned nine churches to the ground, and killed several Christians, among them Pastor Yahaya Tsalibi and Brother Ezra Turaki. Another 165 Christians were injured, and Bibles, books, cars, trucks, and equipment belong[ing] to Christians and the churches were set on fire. Malo Garba was accosted by Muslims and told to recite the Koran, when she refused they struck her in the face several times and broke all her teeth and damaged the bones in her face so severely that it required two operations to repair the damage. (p. 356)

These incidents are not isolated and are not committed only by radical extremists; the history of Islam proves that it’s normal behavior for Muslims, and happens in all predominately Muslim countries. In Sudan, approximately 3 million Christians have been killed in the past 30 years. Many Christians in the southern Sudan are being kidnapped and sold as slaves to Muslims in the north.

When Christians in Muslim countries begin to prosper more than Muslims, they are attacked and looted, often destroying their means of employment. In Bangladesh, Muslims have “destroyed rickshaws owned by Christians, thereby taking away their only source of income” (The Voice of the Martyrs, Jan. 1999).

Egypt has the largest Christian population, “However, the country’s constitution gives preferences to Muslims, and Christians are treated as second-class citizens, denied political representation, and discriminated against in employment” (Ibid).

In Iran, Christians are “discriminated against in education, employment, and property ownership” (Ibid). In Morocco, Christians “have endured ostracism from their families, loss of employment, and imprisonment” (ibid).
In Pakistan the names of Christians are frequently printed in the local newspapers to increase social pressure. Those whose names appear are not able to find work and are harassed by local Muslims. Why They Hate America

Just being Christians is enough, but the Muslim world hates the West because of what they see as Western domination. Therefore, they believe it is right to slaughter Americans or Europeans in an attempt to stop the cultural pollution and what they see as political oppression coming from Western nations. The leaders of Muslim nations accept billions of dollars in foreign aid from the United States and European nations, so those leaders bow to the wishes of the U.S. and European nations, even when the majority of the population does not agree with their leader’s actions.

The proponents of Islam will tell you that Osama bin Laden and his terrorist organization does not reflect main-stream Islam, but the actions of Islamic nations after the Sept. 11 attacks proves that statement false. After the attacks, Muslims throughout the Muslim world were celebrating in the streets.

One might argue that Christianity has also committed violence in the name of religion, yes, but it did so in ignorance because the Bible says Christians are to love their enemies and do good to them; whereas the Quran teaches that the enemies of Islam should be killed. And Christianity did not start with the use of warfare, but Islam did. Nor was Christianity spread by warfare, but Islam was. If there had been Bibles available for the common man to read, more people would have known the truth and history would have been very different. The Quran is much shorter than the Bible and many people throughout Islamic history would actually memorize the whole Quran. To this day many Muslims still do so.

Proponents of Islam claim that Islam has historically tolerated other religions such as Judaism and Christianity, yes (to a point), as long as they paid a heavy tax and did not try to convert anyone. To this day, any person who tries to convert a Muslim to Christianity is automatically under a death sentence as are any persons who convert to Christianity from Islam. But there have been many occasions when large numbers of Christians were murdered, (that is book in itself), such as in Armenia, several different times during Muslim rule.

Muslims see Islam as “a force of liberation” (Davis, Between Jihad and Salaam: Profiles in Islam, p. 100). When Muhammad spoke of the future conquest of Constantinople, he referred to it as the “liberation” of Constantinople. Muslims will tell you that they do not hate the American people, only the American government. When Muslims invade the U.S., they will come to liberate us from the government, and from Christianity.

in other words, you found not one single battle lead by Jesus or His disciples neither through His ministery or after.

Is this the answer you give to convince an audiance of a jihadist par excellence? a failed one single battle, never ever repeated again neither by the person who advocates jihad nor any of his disciples? why didn’t the jihadists then go hundreds of swords and warriors and lead a real battle like jihadists do? did the spirit of jihad die in them all of a sudden? is that the best argument you can provide?

Besides, if by one single failed battle that was never repeated you call Jesus and His disciples as jihadist par excellence, what do you call what Muhammad and his followers who lead dozens and killed God knows how many if not terrorism by excellence?

Jesus preaching war, the agony in the garden a set battle. (The things that make you go Hmmmmmmm)

And was there a fight. Well yea, Peter struck the servant of the high priest, cut off his ear. So what happens next? Jesus puts a stop to it right then and there. Healed the ear of the high priest’s servant none the less. Did I miss something because, there is nothing said about anybody else brawling? Not much of a battle! So what happens next, Jesus is captured by his enemies. Not much of a strategist. Why doesn’t Jesus demonstrate a more superior strategy? I mean really think about it. By that evening it had to be painfully obvious, there was not going to be a revolution in Jewish thoughts or practices. At least not in the temple, or in Jerusalem. He started that particular week off with a parade into the city, latter dropped a calling card at the temple by wrecking the money changer’s stand. Announced that He was next going to destroy the temple which tells me, He pretty much was looking for a confrontation. But, the temple authorities were not going to back down. And Jesus had forced the high priest hand with blasphemy.

A better strategy would be, to not stop in the garden and pray but, to head for Galilee or some other safe place; collect up the followers and return in force to Jerusalem. That is if the Romans didn’t mind and take over the religion by force of arms. Sort of like what Mohamed did.

I think that would have been a better plan: unless there something bigger going down. Jesus wanted a showdown with the temple authorities and Piolot by the way. It wasn’t to be showdown like the OK corral. Jesus was going to defeat death and redeem mankind. It wasn’t going to be for a jihad. I say this because of his answer to Piolot’s if he, Jesus were a king? Jesus tells the old boy, His kingdom isn’t of this world. If it were, his followers would have fought to prevent his being taken. For someone preaching jihad I don’t see it.

Taking quotes out of context is a very old trick. It works on the ignorant but really a hard sell to anyone who read the whole story No sale!

where did you read about entrance, positions and strategies? He said “here” and “there”. This does not seem the language of a strategic warrior neither do they reflect a military description in the authors’ mind otherwise he’d have at least given more details about this “battle-plan”.

When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?

oh. All of them were asleep and what was His answer ? how can you sleep when we are in a battle state? of course not. He simply blamed them for not staying awake for even one hour. Why is one hour enough if they are supposed to stay awake untill the ennemies arrive?

Yes, you are quite right and I too am guilty of straying off-topic on this thread.

Anyhow, I think Christians, in focusing on the minor details of this episode, are missing the big picture here.

The main question that needs to be addressed in this instance is:

**Why did they all go in the middle of the night, to Gethsemane — an olive press — a courtyard built of stone walls some 5 miles out of town.?.. and why did they bring swords with them, even though it may have been just two(2) that the disciples could find at that time and place?

If their purpose in going to Gethsemane was entirely peaceful, then why didn’t Jesus (pbuh) just order his disciples to put the 2 swords away while they were still in the upper-room?**

Nay, the only purpose of swords or guns is to maim and to kill. People did not carry swords to pare apples and bananas in the time of Jesus Christ.

As for the “misconceived strategy”, remember that Jesus (pbuh) was not preparing for war against the Roman army but rather, since his “friend” Judas was in league with the Temple authorities, he was expecting a clandestine, underhand attempt by the Jewish oligarchy to seize him… and it was against the Jewish temple servants and the riff-raff of the town that he was planning this particular ‘jihad’.

As things turned out, it was Roman soldiers who unexpectedly overpowered them in Gethsemane and the fact that the disciples fell asleep should in no way detract from the tactical shrewdness of Jesus (pbuh) in going to Gethsemane and not staying in the upper-room.

Later, of course, there was Peter denying that he even knew Jesus. And, at the crucifixion, the disciples took off and left, for fear of their lives.

But, after being filled with power of the Holy Spirit, at the gathering during Pentecost, they were bold, and preached the Gospel in thier faces - without swords, etc.:
