It says there is a strong biological component to homosexuality, etc.which tells me the Catechism is wrong.

See post #64. The psychological genesis the catechism speaks of could arise from anything, including biology. Do you see?

Again, the mistake could very well be where it talks about the PSYCHOLOGICAL GENESIS.

But it doesn’t say that. It does, however, imply homosexuality is a psychological problem. Do YOU see?

I see your messaging. I see what you infer. Deliberate behaviours have a psychological genesis.

ProdigalSon, somebody, somewhere in this thread (I’m not going to try to find it now) said that the Catechism did imply it is a psychological problem, and that’s how I took it, too.

Btw, are you Catholic?

Well, the objective fact is that something can have a psychological genesis without being a psychological problem. So with all due respect, your “way of taking it” is objectively incorrect.

So, then, to be clear, the Catechism is not implying that homosexuality is a psychological disorder?

Correct. It is also not suggesting that homosexuality is NOT a psychological disorder.

What do you mean, exactly? That it’s not implying anything either way?

Bingo. It is implying that there are psychological REASONS for homosexuality, but it is not implying that it is or is not a psychological problem.

It is not implying or saying anything about the biological or psychological nature of homosexuality. It only comments on the morality of homosexual acts.

For everyone else on this thread, I’ve dealt with this poster before and they will continue to engage in circular arguments as long as they do not get the answer they want to hear.

The Church is not an authority on the sciences and expresses no opinion on why some people experience attraction to the opposite sex. Have you read that or similar previously here?

Ok, thanks. Now, does THAT go against the DSM?
No. The DSM does not say whether or not there are psychological causes to homosexuality. It is agnostic on the matter. It simply says that homosexuality is not, in itself, pathological.

Why does the DSM matter in this issue? I assure you it isn’t infallible.
