I’m looking forward to watching it on Walsingham’s website.

I’m not English either but I live here so pray for England as a matter of course.

I’m Irish-American and cradle Catholic. I think you can figure out what I’m thinking of without me needing to paint a picture.

How to make a good spiritual communion

What on earth is a “spiritual communion”? How can I receive the graces of Holy Communion if I haven’t been to Mass? How do I actually do this? Fr Stephen gives some background theology to help you make sense of this beautiful tradition, and some practical advice about how to do it.
Here is a short desciption and then an act of spiritual communion you can pray - the one I used in the video today:

Spiritual Communion
There are times when people are unable to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, through
illness or due to their personal disposition. Even though some may not receive ‘sacramental’
Communion, all are united in some way by the Holy Spirit. The traditional idea of ‘spiritual’
Communion is an important one to remember and reaffirm. A deep spiritual communion is
possible even when we do not share together the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ.
(cf. Celebrating the Mass 212)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus,
I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar.
I love you above all things
and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
come spiritually into my soul
so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever.
Amen.
(Based on a prayer of St Alphonsus Liguori)

Probably a good move. If England is going to get hit with coronavirus then it should be rededicated to Mary immediately in order to increase her protection of it.

Periods of thanksgiving and hope .

At 8pm last evening people throughout the nation came to their front doors to applaud the National Health Service and its many selfless workers at this time .

“Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” (Genesis 9:16)

Children have taken to making pictures of rainbows to put in their windows , signs of hope and cheer .

(From The Official Companion of The Rededication of England as Mary’s Dowry)

In the current circumstances, it is clear that we will not be able to come together to make The Rededication. As this is a personal act, we are able to make the The Rededication at home and still be united together in prayer.

At Mary’s Basilica in Walsingham, a very small group will be joining together to make The Rededication and it will be live streamed so that all can join together, if they wish.

Livestream will be live 29th of March 2020 at 12 Noon.

Shrine Livestream. . . . . .

A joint statement of the Anglican and Catholic shrines at Walsingham, Fr Kevin Smith and Mgr John Armitage : "Today, fear and uncertainty about the future is affecting millions of lives around the world and within our own communities and families. We see in Mary one who was not shielded from life’s pain and difficulties… This is why we can look to Mary with confidence and trust in times of sorrow and joy, because she has the wisdom of a Mother who knows what we are experiencing, who loves and protects her children."

This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

This is the day which the Lord hath made: we will rejoice and be glad in it.
O praise the Lord of heav’n: praise him in the height.
Praise him, all ye angels of his: praise him, all his host.
Praise him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars and light.
Let them praise the Name of the Lord.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee: to keep thee in all thy ways.
The Lord himself is thy keeper: the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand;
so that the sun shall not burn thee by day: neither the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in: from this time forth for evermore.
He shall defend thee under his wings.
Be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and put thou thy trust in the Lord.
