Talking about other users is innapropriate.Bravo:clapping:
Perhaps he should just start his own church considering that as far as he is concerned, he wants a church where what he says goes.

Perhaps so, but if you’re going to discuss religion on the internet, you need to be pretty thick-skinned.Talking about other users is innapropriate.
I think if you look at the internet as a whole, rather than focusing on one particular forum, you’ll find that there is as much (or more) Protestant-to-Catholic hostility as there is Catholic-to-Protestant hostility.
And if one represents oneself as a christian on the internet, they should act like it instead of talking about other people.Perhaps so, but if you’re going to discuss religion on the internet, you need to be pretty thick-skinned.
BTW, I noticed you haven’t responded to my earlier comment:
Of course! But again, there are Catholics and Protestants alike who are guilty of not acting like Christians. And if one represents oneself as a christian on the internet, they should act like it instead of talking about other people.
Exactly: you’re being selective in your observations. But as far as I remember, my comment was directed at CAF users, not the American public.
I was actually talking about a state of mind, and attitude of the heart. Let me say it this way. Anyone who is not ready to give themselves to God in faith and trust, and embrace His commandments and the way of life He has ordained, is not ready to become a Catholic. And if one represents oneself as a christian on the internet, they should act like it instead of talking about other people.
How does that justify back-talking other people?I was actually talking about a state of mind, and attitude of the heart. Let me say it this way. Anyone who is not ready to give themselves to God in faith and trust, and embrace His commandments and the way of life He has ordained, is not ready to become a Catholic.
The expectation that one could make a profession of faith and then pick and choose what sort of “brand” (cafeteria selections?) one would like to be would not make a good Catholic.
It doesn’t.How does that justify back-talking other people?
WHO DID “founded” the RCC if not Jesus,YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW VARY LITTLE ABOUT THA SPILT OF 1051The catholic Church is the one true Church founded by Christ. The Roman Catholic church was NOT founded by Christ. One is an institution created by man and the other is not an institution and was founded by Christ.
Perhaps I don’t understand your complaint? When I grew up, back talking was being sassy to my elders. Was someone sassy with you?How does that justify back-talking other people?
I didn’t think the comment was about me.Perhaps I don’t understand your complaint? When I grew up, back talking was being sassy to my elders. Was someone sassy with you?
I thought you objection was people making commentary on the thread about you?
I am not trying to justify, I was trying to restate my comment so that it was general, and not personal.
Bill, the Catholic Church is not “Roman”. Jesus only founded One Church, and it was not “Roman”. In fact, all the first members were Jews.WHO DID “founded” the RCC if not Jesus,YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW VARY LITTLE ABOUT THA SPILT OF 1051
My understanding of this list is that it is an on-going dialogue composed primarily of people sincerely interested in finding out the truth about Jesus Christ and the Church He established on the Rock of Peter - the first leader of the CC.How does that justify back-talking other people?
True. But my comment was not quite behind his back. It may not have been addressed to him but it is there for him to read. Don’t worry he did the same thing to me so all is cool.Talking about other users is innapropriate.
Wow. You just simplified everything with that post. “Catholic” simply means “universal” and the only church the NT recognizes is the universal body of believers who follow the teachings of Scripture and submit to godly leaders who uphold the ‘faith once delivered to the saints’.Actually I think the reference in Acts predates that one by about 50 years.
Acts 9:31
31 Meanwhile the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and was built up. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.
Kath Holos = the Church throughout = Catholic
Yeah he did.Wow. You just simplified everything with that post. “Catholic” simply means “universal” and the only church the NT recognizes is the universal body of believers who follow the teachings of Scripture and submit to godly leaders who uphold the ‘faith once delivered to the saints’.
Ignatius knew this as well.
and then of course there isCHAP. VII.–LET US STAND ALOOF FROM SUCH HERETICS.
They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer,(7) because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death(11) in the midst of their disputes. But it were better for them to treat it with respect,(13) that they also might rise again. It is fitting, therefore, that ye should keep aloof from such persons, and not to speak of(15) them either in private or in public, but to give heed to the prophets, and above all, to the Gospel, in which the passion[of Christ] has been revealed to us, and the resurrection has been fully proved.(16) But avoid all divisions, as the beginning of evils.
It really doesn’t do you much good to appeal to him now does it?See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Christ Jesus does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles. Do ye also reverence the deacons, as those that carry out[through their office] the appointment of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper(18) Eucharist, which is[administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.
Ding-Ding-Ding! And Round 1 goes to Church Militant! Decisive victory.Yeah he did.
But let’s look at what else St. Ignatius said about the Catholic Church of his day that he received straight from St. John the apostle. and then of course there is It really doesn’t do you much good to appeal to him now does it?
Ding-Ding-Ding! And Round 1 goes to Church Militant! Decisive victory.
Really, N, you should’ve tried to use a Catholic Bishop and personal disciple of the Apostle John to support your argument. All of his views reflect Catholicism, not splintered Protestantism.
Yes, Catholic means universal, but this was written before the New Testament Existed. Those who are members of the universal Church are those who embrace the Teaching of the Apostles. The Holy Scriptures were never intended to be the foundation of the Church.Wow. You just simplified everything with that post. “Catholic” simply means “universal” and the only church the NT recognizes is the universal body of believers who follow the teachings of Scripture and submit to godly leaders who uphold the ‘faith once delivered to the saints’.

Thanks Militant, for the great link as well as the encouragement to charity. The article also makes it clear that, just as did all the heretics of the early centuries, the Reformers wished to retain the name of “catholic” while departing from the Catholic Faith.Better drop the personal back and forth or Rachel Malloy might close the thread guys. That stuff should have all been discussed in PMs, not in thread.
And to get back to the question of when and where the term Roman Catholic came from…I found this that explains it very well.
Roman Catholic
