Thereâs a search window at the top of the screen. Ordinarily I might post a link to the Pope quote. But I see that you have not offered links in support of your claims. I also feel obliged to admit that I am not overjoyed with attempts to resurrect a thread which has been closed. If you can find any statement of the late Pope, or the current one, for that matter, taking the position that itâs just hunky dory for the invaders of Iraq to stay there until, in their judgment, itâs safe for them to leave, Iâd be interested in seeing itâŚ
Debunkerman:You have changed the subject from the truth. The previous statement was, âI believe that Cindy Sheehanâs position on Americaâs invasion of Iraq is pretty much the same as that of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.â
That statement is true.
Hear! Hear! She was quoted on talk radio today calling Sen. John McCain a âwarmongerâ. She has no right whatsoever to call Sen McCain anything. He is a hero and was held prisoner for a long time in Viet Nam, while people like her were calling our troops baby killers and terriorists. I believe history is repeating itself. I try to pay no attention to her at all.
⌠I believe that youâve got the history wrong. The War in the Gulf was started when Saddam Husswein invaded Kuwait, an independent country, in 1990.My statement was that her position on the invasion was virtually the same as that of the two popes. That has not been contradicted.
The war precipitated by the invasion continues, and is likely to continue as long as the invaders occupy the country. This last statement is my own opinion based upon my own experience and assessment of the situation. I know that we have talked about leaving as soon as we have stabilized the situation, but as things are going now itâs beginning to look like that will be approximately when hell freezes over. Furthermore, I hear that we are building a number of large, permanent bases, an action that is hardly designed to persuade the local resistance that we intend to leave anytime soon.

Debunkerman said:Dulce Et Decorum Est
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.
GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.â
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.
If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devilâs sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,â
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

WIlfred Owen, like Cecil Chesterton, was killed in the last days of the war. He died on November 4, 1918 near Ors.
My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Debunkerman::
So, What do you believe is worth dying for? or. Living for for that matter?
Casey Sheehan may have believed an Army recruiter.Mrs. Sheehanâs son seemed to believed that America was worth dying and living for.
How could he and his mother disagree so much?

So, What do you believe is worth dying for? or. Living for for that matter?
To Debunkerman:My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Oh! Youâre back! :bounce: And answering questions it seems! Yay! Good answer by the way to the question âWhat will men die for?â Not to say, of course, that women will not die for things; âmenâ here obviously means men and women. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Oh, but I do not think wanting to kill people is a prerequisite to joining the armed forces. In fact, my Dadâs old war buddy would always say that if someone was sent into his unit who liked killing people, he would send him packing.Casey told his mother he did not want to kill anyone. What did they disagree about so much?
'morning, TradAng! One of those transformative questions. So, What do you believe is worth dying for?
What does that mean, I wonder: âYouâŚdeath⌠are the source of all thatâs gonna be bornâ? What was born in Casey in the face of death? What was born in Ms Sheehan in the face of death? What is born in us in the face of death? One man looks at a dying bird and thinks thereâs nothing but unanswered pain. That deathâs got the final word, itâs laughing at him. Another man sees that same bird, feels the glory, feels something smiling through itâŚ
Whatâs this war in the heart of nature? Why does nature vie with itself? The land contend with the sea? Is there an avenging power in nature? Not one power but two?
Who are you who live in all these many forms? Youâre death that captures all. You too are the source of all thatâs gonna be born. Youâre glory, mercy, peace, truth. You give calm a spirit, understanding, courage, the contented heart.
Howâd we lose the good that was given us, let it slip away, scattered, careless? Whatâs keeping us from reaching out, touching the glory? âŚ
Does our ruin benefit the earth, aid the grass to grow and the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you too? Have you passed through this night? âŚ
How do we get to those other shores? To those blue hills? Loveâwhere does it come from? Who lit this flame in us? No war can put it out, conquer itâŚ
Who were you that I lived with, walked with? The brother, the friend? Strife and love, darkness and lightâare they the workings of one mind, features of the same face? Oh my soul. Let me be in you now. Look out through my eyes. Look out at the things you made. All things shining.
Having read enough transcripts with some pretty outrageous quotes, I discount everything she says. She has suffered a serious loss, but her solution to the problem is not right.I heard Cindy Sheehan speak publicly at the University of Maryland last night. I was surpised from the very beginning to hear her talk about her son and his love of the Catholic faith. I had not known Cindy Sheehan and her son were Catholics.
I am new to this discussion group but I noticed a discussion thread about Cindy Sheehan began on September 26th and was closed the following day by the moderator. People here seemed to have some strong opinions about Mrs. Sheehan.
It is interesting that for whatever attention the media has given Cindy Sheehan, her own voice has been broadcast very little. Therefore, opinions of Cindy Sheehan are formed more from what others have said about her than from what Cindy Sheehan has said.
I am curious how many people here have actually heard her speak for any length of time?
I wasnât aware of the guideline that said you had to acquaint youself with previous threads to pass comment on an issue. But Debunkerman, the question âWhat did they disagree about so much?â has been asked and answered in previous threads about Ms Sheehan. There really are much more interesting replies to your question than mine on those previous threads. I am hoping that today will be the day that you embrace the search window.:yup:
You are not in reality if you do not believe that she said this war was for oil or for Israel or blood. Hate permeates her speech. Her loss, which was grevious has turned into hate and she speaks it again and again. Witness her allegation that the US Military is occupying the city of New Orleans. She is not mentally stable anymore, her loss has really impacted her.Cindy Sheehan like the Pope questions the decision to go to war. Have you heard her speak?
I did not hear her say that. When did you hear her say that?
Clearly you have not heard the words of Cindy Sheehan. Can you provide quotes from Cindy Sheehan to support your statement that she preaches hate?
The Gospel of Cindy I see. You have really bought everything she has said hook, line and sinker. Just for the record, Caseyâs father and other family members disagree with what Cindy is doing. Funny, no one cares what they have to think. Rather, in your case, Cindyâs word is Gospel. If she says Casey was opposed to Iraq, he was opposed. If Cindy says it was a war for oil, it was a war for oil. If Cindy says we are occupiers in New Orleans, we are occupiers. That is not reality. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Casey Sheehan may have believed an Army recruiter.
I read that Casey Sheehan enlisted in the army in 2000 with the goal of becoming a chaplainâs assistant. I read he had a special love for his Church. His mother was the parish youth minister for eight years. Casey told his mother he did not want to kill anyone. At the University of Maryland Cindy Sheehan said, âKilling people is wrong.â
What did they disagree about so much?
Well this was enough for me. You support terrorism. You support suicide bombers in Iraq. I guess the Iraqi people deserve to die for exercising new freedoms. I guess soldiers should die because they are âevil occupiers.âHow do you know this?
She told the audience Tuesday night that she and her son discussed the war before he left. She said her son did not want to kill anyone. She said he told her he had to go because it was his duty and his buddies were going. She did not like the idea of her son going to Iraq but I did not get the impression he was excited about it either. She said he told her âthe sooner I go the sooner I can come home.â He was dead two weeks later. If her son did not want to kill anyone how were they diametrically opposed?
Why not? When an army invades another country for false reasons (WMDs, links to 911 etc.) citizens have a right to resist the invaders and occupiers that have killed innocent people by virtue of what you call Legitimate Self Defense. The Iraqi people did not invade the United States, our army invaded their country and the insurgency is the rebellion against our illegal criminal occupation of their territory. How do you justify the invasion of Iraq?
American Catholics have taken a different position from the Pope.
Polls have suggested that over two-thirds of American Catholics supported the war in Iraq.
âNo to war! War is not always inevitable. It is always a defeat for humanity.â
âWhen war, as in these days in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is ever more urgent to proclaim, with a strong and decisive voice, that only peace is the road to follow to construct a more just and united society⌠Violence and arms can never resolve the problems of men.â
-Pope John Paul II, on the American attack on Iraq
Yes. This responds to the question âWhat was born in Ms Sheehan in the face of death?âHate permeates her speech. Her loss, which was grevious has turned into hate and she speaks it again and again.
I do not support terrorism.Well this was enough for me. You support terrorism. You support suicide bombers in Iraq. I guess the Iraqi people deserve to die for exercising new freedoms. I guess soldiers should die because they are âevil occupiers.â
âIt is the Soldier, not the Journalist who has guaranteed freedom of the pressâ
âIt is the Soldier not the activist who has ensured Freedom of Speechâ
You would do well to remember that.
