No matter what you think about the visions etc… you have to admit that the Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful prayer.
(note that it should never replace the holy rosary though)

I think the words are beautiful, but if I ever recite it, I keep thinking “I could be saying a rosary instead”. The sad thing is that some are replacing the rosary with the chaplet. Thank you for being polite to me!

The chaplet goes much faster, it can be said in under ten minutes. Say both, maybe? 🙂

Really this argument to me doesn’t hold water. I could just as easily say that Mass is better than Adoration, or the Rosary, so I don’t waste my time with either of those devotions.

I pray the Rosary every day, and I want to learn how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy too. If the DM is in danger of replacing the Rosary for someone, maybe they aren’t making enough time for prayer.

You’re right about that! I don’t think any reasonable person can claim DM is replacing the Rosary. Said alone, without the TV frills, DM takes about five minutes.

Should we cease all the many Novenas? The Chaplet of the Five Wounds, the Chaplet of St. Michael the Archangel and all the other chaplets? No. Ya know?

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy upon us and on the whole world.

O Blood and Water, which hast gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a Fount of Mercy for us, we trust in Thee.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Rosary…🙂

Divine Mercy is close to my heart. I try to make the 3 o’clock habit every day (sometimes I forget)…For those of you who may not know, 3 is the hour of divine mercy (that’s when Jesus died on the Cross). I pray the Chaplet often, and Faustina will be my confirmation name 🙂

I have prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily for several years. The Chaplet is prayed for the CONVERSION OF SINNERS. That is something that I think is very well worth five minutes of my time.

Today after Mass, at Benediction, the incense caught the refracted light coming from the stained glass window over the altar. Red and white–that divine mercy blueish white was shining out in front of the crucifix. Ooooh, wow. Goosebumps, I an so telling you. 🙂 Blood and water which gushes forth from the heart of Jesus as a font of Mercy, I trust in thee!

I don’t believe the DM will replace the Rosary. Each prayer has its own miraculous powers. When said in combinations on different days you CAN fit them all in and they ALL are being heard by God.No need to fret. Being overscrupulous can have its drawbacks too.
As far as visions go, whether we choose to believe them is our own personal choice, though many of themiracleshave been accounted for by the Vatican and the Pope.I personally pray both. I find both to be a source of comfort and beauty.

’ To whoever has, more shall be given…’ (Mathew 13:12 ) may be another way to look at these so called new devotions ( which are only us being asked to focus more on already existing and revealed truths yet needing more reminder as per the need of the times .

Could it not be the better acceptance of Fatima message and rosary that prepared The Church and many hearts , to accept the Divine mercy devotions with its emphasis on trust in our Lord, in His Church and her teachings !

True, needing less time, the chaplet might appeal to those who think they cannot spare more time yet these same persons might find sooner or later that Holy Spirit has blessed them with the gift of prayer that has become a joy and they gladly use moments that might otherwise be wasted , to commune with The Father , with our Mother …the rosary devotion…

The few websites that are detractors of the mercy devotion - every one of their halftruth arguments can be answered by most who are familiar with the contents of the Diary …

St.Faustina , like most saints, was called to extraordinary sufferings, of body and mind and remained in trusting fidelity on The Lord through it all …was allowed to participate in the very agony of our Lord …and continued to trust in His goodness, which in turn helped , like it did St. Paul , to draw down the loving power of trust, on behalf of many who cannot trust God’s goodness even in one of His best gifts - of life itself …

thedivinemercy.org/news/story.php?NID=3278&PLID=71

Suffering mentally does not exclude one from sainthood, as is shown by the witness of St.Alphonsa, the only canonised saint of the Eastern SyroMalabar Church .

She was frightened after a thief broke in and for a year was considered to have been mentally ill …miraculously recovered …and the first evidence of her holiness , after she died , was a menatlly ill pt. who got instantly healed after using the discarded mat of the saint …very appropriate too , for a state that has a high prevalence of hindu fatalistic beliefs along with enough social pressure, class conscience etc and a high incidenc of suicides …

Our Lady of Kibeho,( only Church approved apparition in Africa) through her only Church had asked for promotion of the Rosary of Seven Sorrows …

Rwanda , the scene to be of a terrible ( yet , brief in time ) genocide years later , was a simmering ground of tribal hatreds for many years beforehand …

Bl. Mother had promised that meditating on her sorrows with an open humble heart would help persons to understand why they sin and help them to overcome the personality traits and hatreds that cause problems …

Still remember seeing some pious old grandmas in childhood days , with the rosary of seven sorrows and thinking - ’ O , no ! another rosary , this one even longer and all about sorrows ’ 🙂

Now, years later , it is sweet to grasp better what our Mother means when she asks us to contemplate with her …that our Lord allowed all His sufferings and hers, to help us to draw strenght … .so that our trials can be grateful recalls of those moments … so that we can lift up the pains hatreds of others too …to Him , with her … who in turn bring us His love and mercy and peace …

Our Father is a Good Father …who tends us in green fields and restful waters …

All praise and glory be to The Father, Son and Holy Spirit !

.

Our Lady of Kibeho,( only Church approved apparition in Africa) through her only Church had asked for promotion of the Rosary of Seven Sorrows …

Correction - the above was meant to say - our Lady of Kibeho , through her apparition had asked …( the word 'only Church ’ there seems out of place ) ; in fact the book talks about her maternal love for all .

And yes, she did request for the regular rosary too ; as mentioned by another poster , these devotions possibly help persons in diffrent aspects and needs .

catholiceducation.org/articles/civilization/cc0254.htm

The above is an article that talks about the widespread prevalence of narcissism and its impact , even in priests and liturgy !

Again, the time line , with the coincidence with the rebellion against Humane Vitae - could there be a connection …

And to see how devotions such as the rosary of seven sorrows can be good remedies…

peace !

I personally pray the Chaplet on occasion- though I doubt the apparitions of Sr. Faustina. Either some parts were of her diary were forged or misunderstood, but there are definite unorthodoxies. quote]

Source? Or personal opinions based on?
The Divine Mercy devotion was supressed in 1959 by Pope John XXIII, and St. Faustina’s Diary was placed in the Index Librorum Prohibitorum clear through to the Index’s abolishment in 1967, a move initiated by Pope Pius XII and confirmed by Pope John XXIII. As it was, St. Faustina was only semi-literate and most of her diary was transcribed by other nuns, giving 100% authenticity more doubtful.

Some unorthodox passages:

On page 168, it says: “The moment I knelt down to cross out my own will, as the Lord
had bid me to do, I heard this voice in my soul: From now on, do not fear God’s
judgment, for you will not be judged.”3 (From Feb. 4, 1935) (!?!)

On page 247: “And know this, too, My daughter: All creatures, whether
they know it or not, and whether they want to or not, always fulfill my will… My
daughter, if you wish, I will this instant create a new world, more beautiful than this one,
and you will live there for the rest of your life.”

On page 374: “If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all
eternity.” (!)

On page 288 : “That is why I am uniting myself with you so intimately as
with no other creature.” (!?!)

On page 583, we read that Sr. Faustina said: “When I took the Messenger of the Sacred
Heart into my hand and read the account of the canonization of St. Andrew Bobola, my
soul was instantly filled with a great longing that our congregation, too, might have a
saint and I wept like a child that there was no saint in our midst. And I said to the
Lord, ‘I know your generosity, and yet it seems to me that you are less generous towards
us.’ And I began again to weep like a little child. And the Lord Jesus said to me, ‘Don’t
cry. You are that saint.’”

On page 602, we read that Jesus supposedly said: “I cannot stand them, because they
are neither good nor bad.”

On page 643, we read that Sr. Faustina said after receiving Communion: “Jesus
transform me into another host!… You are a great and all-powerful Lord; you can grant
me this favor. And the Lord answered me, ‘You are a living host.’”

Divine Mercy in My Soul, The Diary of Sr. Faustina, Stockbridge, MA: Marian Press, 1987

It was not until Pope John Paul II that the apparition received significant attention, and St. Faustina was only rehabilitated after the ban on the devotion was lifted by Pope Paul VI on April 15, 1978. All the same, I am cautious about it, and I would encourage others to be so also.

Not THIS again! I should really unsubscribe from old resurrected threads.

Heh, heh, sorry, lost my internet a few months back, just catching up. 😛
