I cant believe that this teaching exists among Non Catholic circles that the Roman Catholic church went into apostasy?

I would like to know where do SDA, Mormons and any other non catholic faiths , get their information that the first Century Church of the Apostles went into apostacy. And lost their succession to the Apostles.

Now in the second century the Roman Catholic church records, that the Roman Emperors forced Catholic bishops to sign a document and honor their false god’s. The Roman Catholic church has documents revealing these bishops went into apostasy and were excommunicated. When the emperor died, these bishops recanted their apostacy, and were recieved back into the Persecuted Catholic church. One saint even wanted to rebaptise them, but the Roman Pope was against rebaptising these apostate bishops or anyone else.

The Catholic church has no record of Apostasy other than her bishops members went into apostasy, not the Catholic church herself. The other Popes and bishops, desired death, before going to apostasy, or recanting Jesus teachings to their enemies of the church. That is why we have so many saints, and martyrs during these first centuries, they refuse to an apostate, and die first before denying the Catholic churches teachings from Jesus.

So I say to anyone who makes the claim that the Holy apostolic church went into apostacy is being decieving and has been decieved. And should repent of this false teaching or prove your case here.

Mormons, Seventh day adventist or others please defend your teaching on the apostasized Catholic church, or stop decieving others with this false teaching.

Their false teachers who brought a false Gospel told them such things.

It’s the only way they can justify heresy, sadly. That and if the Church never erred, they’d have to end up being wrong. It takes a lot of pride and hatred for men to do such things. It takes even more pride to continually cling to them and justify them.

Are you sitting there with a straight face and trying to say the the Roman(Im sorry its offensive, but not to give it this label for this discussion would be profane) Church never deviated from the true gospel?

The only time I have seen a great apostacy in the church is when Luther invented sola scriptura and took millions with him, and then they left him, and they left them, and they left …and the great divisions occurred. But it was not a total apostacy.

Hisalone, go read the church fathers or something useful before you come here ranting again. You have much to learn. The worst anti-Catholics are those that leave the Church. I’ve been where you are…it’s lacks scholarship. Made me look like a fool.

You are mixing up 2 different things. The Church didn’t go apostate, individuals and groups did. You’re anger radiates everywhere with pride from the way you address most things in here. Something has made you angry, something someone said or did to you. That was the same with me. I’m still dealing with mine, but I’ve come to grips with realizing that it is not the Church as a whole, but rather individuals. It’s understandable how people can react that way you are because there are a lot of sinners in Christ’s Church. I’m just glad that he is so merciful.

Of course we’re not saying it has. But you obviously believe it has. Can you p(name removed by moderator)oint where/when/why and if you can do this; who brought the church out of apostacy?

Now there have been big groups of the [Roman] church that did fallen into apostacy, the Calivnists, the Lutherans, et al.

Do you think the catholic church has taught only what the apostles taught?

Most docrines have been developed, but all are based in Apostolic Teaching. For example, we don’t have any record from the Apostles using the word “Trinity”, but we consider it an Apostolic doctrine because the word represents the truth of what they taught.

If it did then Jesus was wrong when He said :
. . .upon this rock I will build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it
. **Matthew 16:18 **If it went into apostasy even momentarily then the gates of hell prevailed for that moment.

Are you one who teaches this falsehood of Jesus church was an apostate church in the 2nd century? Can you please make your case here. My visitors were not able to do it. So I told them to stop spreading such lies, unless they can prove it.

Can you prove the Catholic church was in apostasy?

Two young men came to my door, who haven’t visited me for many years now. Brought this to my attention. They couldnt back up this lie they were trying to tell me about an apostate Church from Jesus. Unbelievable, They couldn’t leave my house fast enough when they couldn’t answer my questions about this lie they were spreading. I dont think they will visit me anymore, I hope they do though, come back with some answers.

So I told them how to research this lie., and speak the truth, if they are going to give witness of Jesus.

Very well put vocatio. It is ok, to have misunderstanding of the truth, but please dont make up lies about the truth, referring to our friend Hisalone. I dont know why this lie is being taught to these young minds, it terrifies me, someone is misleading them.

Can you sit there with a straight face and try to say that protestant denominations never deviate from the true gospel? And it is only claimed that the Catholic Church does? Give me a break!

You don’t actually think it DID, do you?

Pope Paul III (1534-1549) initiated the Council of Trent (1545-1563), a commission of cardinals tasked with institutional reform, addressing contentious issues such as corrupt bishops and priests, indulgences, and other financial abuses. The Council clearly rejected specific Protestant positions and upheld the basic structure of the Medieval Church, its sacramental system, religious orders, and doctrine. It rejected all compromise with the Protestants, restating basic tenets of the Catholic faith. The Council clearly upheld salvation appropriated by grace through faith and works (not just by faith, as the Protestants insisted).

One can only conclude that the Roman Church was in apostasy prior to the Council of Trent.

That makes no sense, let me explain why…

The council of Trent was called to address the Protestant errors and the misunderstandings of the Catholic faith that led to some people rejecting the Catholic faith.
This in no way affirms or confirms that the Catholic faith fell into apostacy, as all it illustrates is that people sin and misunderstand the faith.

No honest person can affirm Sola Fide without insulting God or misrepresenting Sola Fide to not be faith alone, but faith including obedience which then is a contradiction and only expressed to promote pride rejecting the Catholic Church.
Feel free to PM me and I will explain as it is quite simple.

Now if you can point out a real point at which the Church fell into apostacy I would be interested in seeing it.

Are you honestly saying that the Catholic Church was true up until the middle ages?

In Christ,
Scylla

I had a Baptist tell me that the Catholic Church fell into apostasy when the emperor Constantine became pope and called a Council!
:rotfl:

Thus, the Council of Trent was dedicated to improving the discipline and administration of the Church. The worldly excesses of the secular Renaissance church, epitomized by the era of Alexander VI (1492-1503), exploded in the Reformation under Pope Leo X (1513-1522), whose campaign to raise funds in the German states to rebuild St. Peter’s Basilica by supporting use of indulgences was a key impetus for Martin Luther’s 95 Theses…

The Council, by virtue of its actions, repudiated the pluralism of the Secular Renaissance Church: the organization of religious institutions was tightened, discipline was improved, and the parish was emphasized. The appointment of Bishops for political reasons was no longer tolerated. In the past, the large landholdings forced many bishops to be “absent bishops” who at times were property managers trained in administration.

The RCC suffered from icrementalism/slippery slope where over centuries it fell inot a institution that apostate.
Who could deny the selling of indulgences is apostate yet you in fact will make every attempt possible to say that it didnt happen.

The Church hasn’t had this practice for over 600 years already. Get over it!
