RCIA is offered corresponding roughly to the school year, September through May (in our parish). So is it not until next fall you will get in? In any event, if you want to go, God considers you Catholic now, and that is what counts.
Well thank you!!! How kind of you…
The RCIA director made it seem like I had three eyeballs for wanting this! It wasn’t just about the timing… there’s a lot more to the story but I won’t bore you. She was just so negative and did not address the fact that my first inquiry was in November…nor did she explain how my brother came through so quickly. Actully, she explained nothing…
Really, thank you. Very nice of you…

Thank you, Cheezey. 'tis odd. But God is what is important and not a misguided director! Doesn’t she know that anyone can come and participate at any time? Even if they may not be baptized or confirmed on the set schedule? Bless you.

No hint of an offer like that. Though I go to Mass, it would be great to know the whys and wherefores. Books are great, but not the same.
Hence, just me and the Bible for now…This I understand much better…
blessings…

Recently I have meant 2 different Protestants that don’t go to any church because all they need is the bible and they can interprate it completely on thier own. Is this common?

After talking to both of them on different occasions I found thier theology other than recognizing the trinity didn’t fit anywhere

One went on to say Paul preaches a different salvation than the gospels and there 2 two types of salvation
This doesn’t discredit protestantism. It just points out that when it comes to sound theology a lot of protestants are lacking. We knew that anyway didn’t we? If they base something on the premise that nobody read the Bible until they came along, it’s going to happen.

I belong to the “just me and my Bible because I cannot get into RCIA for a very long time and am baffled by that and feeling like I am on the outside looking in, not wanting my Church to be the just me and my Bible” Church.
But I attend the RCC
I am in RCIA now and will be coming into the Church at the Easter Vigil. I am so excited! But it has been a long road, and I feel your pain. I inquired into RCIA in the winter of 2011, and it was too late to join RCIA, so I had to wait until this past fall. Along the way, it is excruciating to have to wait so long for the Eucharist. I encourage you to go to Mass every week and daily Mass when you can. At some churches you can receive a blessing in the Communion line. Talk to the priest about finding a spiritual director. Participate in the parish as much as you can, and see if the RCIA director can give you some things to read until you can officially join. Also, I continuously have been reading library books about the Catholic faith. Hang in there and trust that your time will come in God’s time.

Suppose someone is shipwrecked alone on an island. If they are alone with a Bible, can they come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. There is no one there to baptise them, no confessor, no one to administer communion, are they saved?

good question…🍿

and if I am allowed just one book, that’s the one…

Steve,

Jehovah Witness, Mormons, Oneness Pentacostal and 7th Day Adventists are not an Island and have a pretty tough time figuring that out surrounded by all the resources…

not to mention this…
27So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.” 30Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?”
Who would be the guide or who would explain what you read?

Are we all that incapable of understanding at least some of the reading?
Cheezey,

Some may be understandable and clear…for example…let’s kick this around…what does 1Corinthians 4:6 mean…could mean one thing…how are you to know what this means?
6Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.

I might have a fair idea, I may be wrong. I am not disagreeing with you, but I may also be right. I have always been a fan of the fact that there is more than the written word. Much was left out, et al…
But you know, not easy shedding the skin; despite always thinking that there was indeed so much more…I certainly enjoy learning friom the Bible, which will always be a journey…
if that makes sense. Don’t feel well…
And I enoy your posts. Your way with words and thoughts reminds me of someone from my past. This is a good thing, by the way…

First of all, would all come to the same conclusion what it takes to be saved? That is the real question. Having the Bible means nothing if one does not understand salvation, redemption, justification, etc, etc.

I too have given this a great deal of thought, I have come to the conclusion that you don’t have to belong to a church in order to belong to God.

How many of us understood EVERYTHING when we first experienced the grace and mercy of God? He meets us where we are…we don’t have to know everything…understand everything…believe everything FIRST to receive His grace and mercy. The castaway may not understand everything…but God does and God knows the heart better than we know ourselves…God sees a Way when we can’t. He is in the “business” of restoring broken relationships…even with a castaway who has no idea about theology and the theological debates that have raged for millenia.

There is grace and mercy for any and all who seek it…that’s all they need to be knowledgable about…“I need God” like the Good Shepherd who left the 90 and 9…He will find His lost sheep…even on an island.🙂

I can’t quote all of the different bible verses, don’t have it memorized but I do recall something in there where Jesus said you can find God anywhere you look if you’re really looking, even under a rock.

A verse in the Gospel of Thomas says it very eloquently…'Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift a stone, and you will find me there." Not canonical…but Truth doesn’t have to be “canonized” for it to be Truth.🙂

I was there with this thought, and in a way still am, in that, if one cannot for whatever reason find, get to, or belong to a church, God will not say, “well then, off with you.”
Now I want to join, and that has met up with the silliest of hurdles and reasons. Not the least of which was not even being told when the next program begins. So, they must not want me. This should have been at least started by now. As I said to someone, “God is telling me Yes, but they are saying No.” Isn’t that silly? Now I must go to God differently. The world is part of His Kingdom and I am in it already. Probably hidden.
