The "Clown Priest" is so 80s. Anyone up for a "Punk Priest?"

While there are aspects of his expression that I personally dislike (I’m not much of a fan of calling Jesus “the big JC”, not because I think it’s blasphemous, but because I can’t stand such an affect), I have no serious gripes with the guy.

I often wonder what people think of me when they read my posts, as I’ve been told that I come across quite differently on-line than I do in person. People don’t seem to expect a loud, beer-drinking, heavy metal listening, tattooed fool for Christ from reading my posts apparently 😛

Of course I also wear the Brown Scapular and Miraculous Medal, keep a vial of Holy Water around at all times, and carry around a black bag with my RSV Bible and the abridged Summa Theologica, in addition to whatever pious works I happen to be reading. Well, ok, I always keep a gaming book or two in the bag as well. 😉

If I had a personal website, it wouldn’t be much different, though I do think that part of his goal is to “reach out” to youth which wouldn’t be on my agenda. He is a priest and a youth-pastor, however, so I can’t fault him for substance, only possibly in style.

Man, all this talk is making me want to play my “System of a Down” CDs. Guess I’ll have to take out my Gregorian Chant for awhile 😃

Peace and God bless!

Please. No forty-one year old man, priest or not, should be appearing in public looking like that. It’s absurd and juvenile. My 16 year old nephew has a better sense of propriety than this person.

Ah ha! We’ve found common ground, Kirk!

See, I knew you weren’t totally hopeless. 👍

OK, so have any of you taken the time to listen to one of the Masses on his website? I just listened to part of one right now and he sings the entire consecration…that’s right, not chants, but sings it in a way that makes it sound like some solo from a Broadway musical…with piano accompaniment!!!:eek::eek: I think I might have burst a blood vessel in my neck listening to that…truly disgusting!

Yeah, I listened to about 5 minutes of it before I had to turn it off in frustration. It was atrocious!

I knew I was in trouble when the processional, er, gathering hymn sounded like “The Lonely Bull” by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

I’ve heard the Consecration prayer chanted, but he just tore it up. It was positively dreadful. But, everything about that Mass indicated it was in a “progressive” parish.

This man is the handmaid of Satan … I am sure he wins for souls for him in a minute than any pimp, drug lord or prostituite could do in a year.
This may be true, but at least he dresses and acts like somebody his age! By the way, if what you say is true, then it confirms something a priest I knew always used to say when teasing feminists: “If you say that God could be a woman, then why can’t we call Satan the Princess of Darkness?”

I don’t have a problem with the fact that he has a Myspace page, but rather, with the content.
In an age of Internet predators, loading a website with pictures of (apparently) adolescent kids (mostly girls) with identifying information (starting with this priest’s diocese and parish) seems like a rip-roaringly bad idea.

If your not familiar with myspace you may not realize the the priest has no control over the pictures of that those who leave messages post. He doesn’t put them there -they do.

I understand that he means well, but what he is doing is disrespecting his office.

The Gospel doesn’t need gimmicks. it is the wrong direction. If fed to people in its full strentgh it will blow their minds and knock their socks off.

In this day of priestly scandals, it is unwise for any priest to have a page on myspace. These girls are probably just innocent parishioners who like their pastor, but this is a completely inappropriate way for them to express it. How many children have been victimized by perverts trolling sites like this, where teenagers often post the most intimate details about themselves? No priest should ever use this kind of site, or encourage his young parishioners to do it either, because of the dangers it exposes them to.

Bingo.

If this poor priest is not engaged in a pathetic bid to draw as much attention to himself as humanly possible, he does a pretty good imitation of somebody who is.

Has anyone found single heretical thing on his website?
Has he dissed the Holy Father?
Taught heresy?
We can accuse him of bad taste and no voice and lack of a good barber, but are those grounds to villify the man?

God is obviously not as picky in calling people as we seem to be.

Maybe not; but does it follow that everything a man with a calling does is in conformity with that calling?

We’re not talking here about characteristics that he has that he can’t help having, or things that he does that he can’t help doing.
