The coronavirus was not engineered in a lab. Here's how we know

It might not have been made in a lab, but it was still allowed to escape and spread. Sorry, China – you’re still responsible.

I never saw any serious claims that it was. What I did see were claims that it was being studied, and that researchers were infected due to lax safety protocols, and then they spread it. And that is still as far as I know the most credible explanation.

In other news, Africa is to blame for hurricanes allowing the hot air coming off the Sahara into the Atlantic.

I would be very surprised if the virus has now not been acquired for biological warfare. It may not have been lab engineered but that does not mean it is being engineered now

The lab theory was created because America’s handling of the virus was dismal. Rather than admit, learn and fix, some decided it was better to make far-fetched claims. The evidence only suggests the virus was the result of a natural mutation in the wild, that the first cases appeared in China first and that China censored concerned doctors for raising concerns.

Eh… the engineered-in-a-lab theory was floating around since before March. Some people just want to tun everything into the plot of a James Bond movie.

The difference is that Africans didn’t specifically generate hurricanes in labs, unlike some we could mention.
That is not a difference, unless you buy into the unproven conspiracy theory. This whole thing with China playing the role of the evil Dr. No is so obviously a presidential propaganda ploy, I am surprised even his supporters are hooked. Has he not been demonizing the Chinese since before the election, making them the new scapegoat for all American ills? Why would anyone with a modicum of common sense believe what he says about China? Yet I would bet that all who have blindly accepted this would be the first to discount the anything the “mainstream media” says as “fake news.”

Opinions should never drive the way we process facts. Facts must drive the way we form opinions.

This is the type of speculation in the absence of facts I was referring to. When we start with an opinion without facts then we are incapable of judging the relevancy of information. This is why jurist must never have an opinion of the case they hear.

Yes it is speculation. Speculation any defense department of any country would be remiss to dismiss. This is now a readily available biological weapon for terrorism and warfare.

Smallpox is better, as are many others. Is it possible? Sure, it is possible, just like the flu can be weaponized. However, such claims need evidence, preferably evidence taken objectively. This virus started among the people of China, an odd placement for a weapon by the Chinese. As the president now has five years of using China as a scapegoat, I would think the most likely explanation is obvious.

Sure its possible and cheaper and easier than getting hold of smallpox or hendra virus or another exotic .

There is evidence this virus was in Spain and other parts of Europe early 2019. The ‘this virus began in China’ is not substantiated at this point, especially given evidence found elsewhere,
It would be correct to say this pandemic began in Wuhan, but not that this virus started in China.

You are completely misreading what I wrote if you read that I said China developed this as a biological weapon, I did not.

Your president really does not factor into my conversation on any low budget or big budget terror organisation or cabal using the now readily available virus , with its different strains, noted for different virulence, as a biological weapon. Except to say, I could bet the guy will have thought of this as will have your Pentagon, and its research arm - DARPA

There’s nothing wrong with supporting a “conspiracy” theory if it is logically the most likely explanation.
I will stick to logic as explained by those who do not use begging the question in the explanation.

Are you claiming I am using ’ begging the question’ If so you will now need to be less abstract and more concrete in a direct response.

No. I that was in reference to someone else - the idea that the mostly likely explanation is that conspiracy theories are right. You see, if they were really likely, they would not be conspiracy theories.

The fact that there is still a need for this article means there could possibly be something fishy with the development or possible development of the virus. This was “settled” months ago. If that were the case then we wouldn’t need the article.

Or it’s because literally anytime something big happens ever, there is inevitably outlandish James Bond-esque theories floating around on the internet.

I haven’t read hardly anything about the explosion earlier this week in Beirut, but I’m already 100% positive that there are James Bond-esque theories about it floating around the internet. That seems to be human nature.

Honestly I really don’t care any more. That china is sketchy tho, don’t defend it because they are forcing Christian’s to make changes to images of Jesus and Mary. Also have them changed to their liking

We have to be honest and fair in our criticisms though, otherwise as Catholics we no longer deserve to be treated seriously.

So for the sake of charity, we can and should criticize China for violating certain human rights and religious liberties, but we should never, ever make stuff up in order to try to smear them. That is morally wrong. It’s also dangerous.
