The correlation of house work and interior emotions

Aside from music, there are also podcasts and such from the internet. I often listen to Dave Ramsey over the internet while doing something mindless like laundry.

I’m also fond of those disposable toilet cleaning heads:

clorox.com/products/clorox-toiletwand-system/

I really like the idea of throwing away something THAT dirty, rather than reusing and reusing something for the inside of the toilet bowl.

I also like wet swiffer wipes for kitchen use and the dry ones for dusting–the dry ones are really good at picking up dust and hair.

(Not totally environmentally friendly, but I do like those products.)

I don’t do “fly lady”

I’m married and have kids. My house is normally a bit cluttered.

Try to implement a few things a little at a time.

So 1 rule could be.

Always make bed in the morning.

So start doing it until it becomes routine

Then add a second rule, like: Always make sure dishes are washed at night.

Then a third. Keep Bathroom tidy. I use a daily spray in the shower, and spray it every day after I shower. I use “Method” but other companies make it will. Clorox wipes are nice as well.

Just do a little at a time.

Why do people think bed making is so important. I only make mine if people are coming over and they need some place to put their coats. I see no benefit to having ironed sheets and perfectly placed pillows on a daily basis. If I have to choose, I’d rather have a clean toilet.

I never iron sheets, but I can’t stand getting into a messed up bed.
And, since the bed is the biggest thing in the room, if it is made, the room instantly looks cleaner! 🙂

Yep!

If the sheets have been wrinkled and bunched up all day, IMO they’re not so comfy to sleep in. I don’t iron sheets either. I don’t iron anything. I’m all about the wash and wear. 👍

I also do it for hygienic reasons - at naptime the kids (and sometimes me…ha) sleep on top of made beds with an extra blanket on top, since I don’t change them out of their play clothes. So the dirt they may have accumulated doesn’t end up in the sheets. So their beds are reasonably clean after bath time and PJs.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I’m not saying I let my kids make mud pies and then go straight to sleeping on top of their beds. Just normal play, and of course we wash hands before eating and sometimes again afterwards (and faces, too!)

I agree. I don’t see the point in making it because guest never come in the bedroom, I don’t mind making it quickly before I go to sleep and, I never have the ‘where did I put XYZ’ from an unmade bed

🤷 Don’t get it. I’m just going to sleep in it again every night. In fact, if I’m home, I don’t really see a problem with sleeping in it during the day. Maybe even a couple times during the day. Probably all that flopping the bed covers around results in more dust being spread around the room too. THen you have to dust more.

It’s visually kind of a big deal. You can also achieve similar visual effects by closing big kids’ bedroom doors.

Takes me 60 seconds tops to make each bed, and my almost 4yo now makes his own. No flopping covers required.

As to dust - I do it twice a week and spend less than 5 minutes per room on it now. (I also got a good vacuum which helps tons on dust management.) I don’t do it that often because I’m crazy, but because that means I never have to work that hard or long when I do clean. (I do our bathrooms twice a week for that reason too - plus having two little boys. :p)

Exactly. If you want a tidy bedroom, making the bed takes about 2 minutes, tops, and since the bed is almost certainly the biggest object/surface in the room, you’ve just “tidied” the majority of the room.

Of course, there’s nothing morally wrong with not wanting a tidy room or not caring about a made bed! DH is a (self-described) slob, while I’m a (self-described) neat freak. Were it left up to him, dusting/vacuuming/bed-making would quite literally never happen. Not having my bed made and any clutter put away stresses me out a lot, though; I can’t relax in a messy room. Ergo, I’ve created a lot of little shortcuts to help me get the house to a level of tidiness in which I can relax.

I mentioned bed making because the OP mentioned it a couple of times in her first post.

You don’t* have* to make the bed if you don’t want to, but it is visually appealing if you do and the room seems less cluttered.

My post was more on how to set a routine for cleaning.
