The Creed at Christmas Day Mass

Just out of curiosity, how many knelt during the appropriate part of the creed at Mass today(Christmas)

Where I went to Mass this morning, not my home parish but my same pastor, there were a whole 2 people kneeling during the phrase “by the power of the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary and became man”, Father and me.

I was just wondering how many know they were supposed to kneel.

I think our priest must’ve been thinking of another scripture reading, and said (at least I thought that’s what he said) “kneel at ‘and the word was made flesh…’” (probably meant to say “…and was made man”, and threw everyone off - a few did a hesitated kneeling. 🤷 (He usually doesn’t make that mistake. Must’ve been a LONG Christmas Eve - 5 Masses if you include Midnight Mass and the one at the local Highschool; I take it they must’ve ran out of room for that particular Mass so now they have two at the same time - one in the parish, and one in the highschool not too far down the road).

Then again, it was the 8 o’clock Mass. I don’t think you can blame anyone for being a bit sleepy. 🙂 They did kneel when I went to the 12pm Mass last year.

at my parish, both last night and this morning, my associate pastor mentioned to kneel and to pause for a moment at that part of the creed. I think the other time you kneel and pause is on March 25th, the Annunciation of the Lord.
 
Our Pastor reminded us. Our parish is usually pretty good about bowing at the same part. Today at the Mass at Dawn, we genuflected.

Yes, we did. Father mentioned it before the creed began. It was nice.
 
my first christmas mass (i guess thats a little redundant), father reminded the parish what to do.

To be picky, you actually genuflect on Annunciation and Christmas. If the Creed is sung or chanted, you kneel. Said = one knee, Sung = both knees.

I was the only one at my church. I’m also the only one who bows. I almost directed my choir to genuflect, but they’ve just gotten used to me bowing. I might have them bowing by Advent 09.
 
Totally forgot about this. Of course, our pastor doesn’t genuflect at the Consecration, what are the odds that he’s going to genuflect at the Creed, let alone remind us to do so.
 
Didn’t go to my parish today, but Father did remind us and
everyone did as told!
 
The priest reminded everyone prior to mass, but most people didn’t do it until the credo was rather dramatically paused.

He was probably referring to the Gospel that was proclaimed today (which was St. John’s Prologue). Only two people knelt at the Noon Mass, me and a friend whom I gave a ride to church. Last night, I was the only one who knelt at the Vigil.
 
If sitting in the congregation, I invariably kneel at the incarnatus, Christmass or not. It’s one of the customs that survived in parts of the Anglican Communion after being suppressed or scaled back in the ordinary form of the Latin Rite.

I will also be kneeling at “…and fell down and worshipped” on Epiphany.
 
The priest at my parish skipped the Creed at Christmas Eve Mass, so I didn’t even get the chance. Sadly, this happens often. 😦
 
Our pastor explained after his homily, before the Creed, that we will kneel after we recite that phrase, and that we also do it on the Feast of the Annunciation nine months earlier, to celebrate the miracle of the incarnation. And the kneeling was adequately lengthy, allowing us to truly reflect on it. I was proud of my pastor.
 
There was a baptism during the Christmas Eve liturgy at the parish we were visiting. So we did the renewal as part of that Rite in lieu of the Creed. Either way, no genuflecting or kneeling (forget for a minute that the church had no kneelers on which to kneel).
