I’m not sure if this goes here but…

I feel like I am constantly rejected by well, everyone. Whether it be a girl I like, or a job or anything else. My friends always “forget” to invite me places. Invitations to parties are offered by coworkers around me but not TO me. I sit while plans are made and I am left out. Girls always pick some other guy over me. And I just cant seemed to get hired for a better job. i’m almost thirty years old, a believing and praying Catholic and this has been the norm almost all my life. I am despondant at the moment. I know God is with me but I feel defeated. Sorry for the rant. Just needed to let it out.

I don’t really know what to say to this, except it is heartbreaking! I am really sorry. Surely God has a special plan for you and you will find your validation in Him, knowing his purpose for you here.

Hugs!

Sometimes God makes us wander through a desert so that we can rely solely on Him. Be joyful, be prayerful, and trust that God desires ultimate happiness for you in Eternity if you just follow Him during your life here on earth. I firmly believe that this country is headed towards a spiritual cliff, where Catholics will be persecuted for their faith. They will face political, economic, and social pressure to deny Our Lord and our holy Catholic faith. Maybe God is getting you ready for a really hard trial, and if you don’t go through this suffering now, you won’t be ready to stand up for Him later. Imagine, maybe He has a martyr’s crown waiting for you, and you are a martyr-in-training! We must all be ready for this if we face the choice between doing what is right and what is easy.

Sorry about the drama, but I just got done watching For Greater Glory, and it is oh-so relevant to what is happening in our own country. God is preparing us for a spiritual battle.

I’ll pray for you, you pray for me? I just posted a prayer wish. I feel very alone with everything I try to do. I am pretty much planning to be alone on my birthday. One group forgot to invite me to Christmas, and my brother forgot to invite me to his Christmas party. I feel for you, I really do. God is with us and God made us to need each other. It’s that second part that is tough right now. Hang in, pray, and I’ll pray for you.

Have you seen Fr Serpa’s meditation on the Passion, which he often includes in his answer to questions?

I hope you find some solace in this…
At the base of all His suffering was the one thing that human beings dread the most: rejection. He was betrayed by Judas, denied by Peter and abandoned by all the rest of His Apostles; those He had hand picked as His closest intimates. He was most rejected by those who put Him to death. They not only wanted Him dead, they wanted Him to suffer. They not only considered Him to be worth nothing, they considered Him to be worth minus nothing! This significance was not lost on Him. He felt fully the rejection as each physical agony reminded Him.
So we thank Him for joining us on our human journey and actually choosing to experience what we fear the most.

May God bless you and lead you on the right paths

Ive felt the pain of rejections also quite a bit ,from girls, jobs, family and even in the church

but ive found new doors open for me to console my pain and for me to continue living without complete despair

I know its lonely and painful being rejected ,but God and the Saints never reject us and their love is always open to us,so place your faith ,hope and love towards Christ, his saints and the church also and you cant go wrong

Christ heals our brokeness and it takes time also

I was going to post but the “quote” that does not appear here is so inspirational. Says it all, and answers a lot of my personal questions regarding rejection and lonliness.

Thank you for this Edmundus 1581.

It can be easy to look at a pattern of rejection and to take it as a sign that there is something wrong with you. But when you talk to others, like here, you see that everyone faces rejection. When you read stories of successful people, especially the saints, you can see a common theme of perseverance in the face of rejection.

You sound a bit passive, like you are waiting for external factors to change your life: a promotion, or other people reaching out to you in friendship. Instead, what about asking a couple of the guys to go for a drink one night after work? Or go volunteer for something at church or in your community?

Been there, done that. Still there, still doing that. But if you keep going (and trying) for long enough, things start changing. Can’t give up and start believing in jinx (or some silly heretical thinking).

Don’t get jaded. And with all that experience comes wisdom. Wisdom is useful and helps you do good things. Doing good things is more important than being successful anyway (or even than having a woman in your life).

You are not the only one who is undergoing this.

What you wrote above is also the story of my life.

I tell myself that God has great plans for me, and I keep trusting in that.

I have noticed in reading about many successful people that coming out of rejection can precede success.

A book by a guy named Altucher “I was blind and now I see” describes several low points in his life after which he has incredible success.

So I would say:
  1. Stay close to God on a daily basis. Do not miss days.
  2. Don’t miss Mass and use the sacraments.
  3. Work hard at something. Often, one thing leads to another. Doors open when you take the initiative. God can only help you if you are moving.
  4. Consider some kind of sport or activity where you can connect with people that have a common interest. Sports are especially good. When you are in good shape, you just feel better.
  5. Consider adding positive affirmations to your prayer life based on Scripture. Never, say anything bad about yourself or others.
Look for ways to build people up, or just be there for others now and then.

I think I could try harder, you are right in that. Part of the problem is that I have come to not exactly distrust God per se, but…well I think He will not generally answer my prayers with a yes.i have committed terrible sins in my life, some sins I still battle, and while I know God forgives I feel I dont deserve His temporal blessings. Even when I was an innocent child I stopped praying for a while because I believed God had decidedto always gove me the exact opposite of whay I asked for. Because my lot in life was to be Job. “James,” it was like I could imagine God saying, “I love you, but this life isnt made for happiness, but the next. Until then here is load after load of emotional injury and pain.”

For this reason I never applied myself throughout grade school, middle school, high school or college. The treatment I received from my peers (I had and still have severe ADHD which I cannot medicate without terrible sexual side effects) taught me then any goodness God had given me would be totally unrecognized by others in all aspects of my life. “James, if I were you I would go kill myself.” they would tell me before school on a regular basis. To me, it wasnt that God didnt bless me with intelligence, buth that the world was blind to anything positive about me. Ans so now, I try to make friends by being kind and loving being supportive of those who ignore me. Showing compassion to those who dislike me. And I am still rejected as before. I watch women I at times develip feelings for choose other men. I ran into an ex the other day. I saw her new boyfriend and how happy she looked and how she had avoided me. Sorry, again for the whining, but this is where I am at right now. And when I pray, I cant imagine God permitting things to change. I now pray with a despairing hope of relief before He takes me Home.

Scruples! Do not allow them to become the sin. But, do doubt your worthiness, because none of us is worthy to receive God’s graces - yet we do. Our ability to appreciate God’s greatness is as limited as we are. As to God answering prayers, do not look for the answer you expect, or one that will be easy or quick. Look for the answer that you least expect; that you least desire, as we must deny our very selves, take up our crosses daily, then, and only then, are we to follow Jesus. Our salvation is a lifetime project, and God will grant you the graces along the way so that you may persevere to the end.

This ^. God bless you brother, youre in my prayers. Rejection hurts.

Okay, a bit longer this time. A lot depends on your mood. That is, if your mood is bad already, then potentially distressing experience will not be light on you. On the other hand, if you’re otherwise happy and stable, then you shrug it off easily. Sometimes it comes down to mundane factors like having a bad day, being hungry or cold or irritated because of “something”. On the other hand, sometimes the “something” lasts longer and/or is inexplicable, which kinda suggests that visitting a counsellor might not be the worst idea. Just like your physical strength is exhausted by large workloads, so can be your mental stamina or your emotional endurance.

Generally, itt’s motivation. If you motivate yourself, things go more easily, though it’s easier said than done. For example, I can tell myself it’s great that I can operate a professional job (in theory it’s a small business but in reality it’s just being “self-employed”), be a responsible tax payer and all. Filling the damn paperwork could inspire me with such feelings and thoughts if I were a better person (or at least more positive). On the other hand, usually when the Day of Paperwork comes, I go down with school fever and feel as bad as if a maths test in highschool awaited me. The solution is to just get it done and be over with (and pray to one day be that person who actually gets all those goodly thoughts about it). This works with stuff like exams, jobs, formalities, heck, even with women to some extent, but it won’t work when one has a more serious problem, e.g. an unsolved trauma, like stuff from childhood. Stuff like that needs to be talked over and processed properly instead of the traditional “grin and bear it” mentality. There is nothing “shameful” whatsoever in going to a guy who’s been trained to do it (just like you may be fixing his car or his teeth or serving his meals or whatever your job is where he could come into contact with you).

Also, this is kinda shallow, but I’ve discovered that allowing yourself to take some good rest, change the surroundings, go get some nice tea at a comfy place, or an interesting trip, read a good book, see a good film, play a computer game, and so on and so forth. We need rest. Rest is not only sleeping or just not working, relaxation and regeneration is a bit more complex than that. Sometimes it needs a change of surroundings, for example.

As for women, well, you mentioned an ex, right? That means you had a relationship at some point. Better or worse relationship as it may have been, but it actually started in the first place. By comparison, I usually have trouble at the point before it starts. Men and women are either compatible or not and the fate of most relationships is “failure”, which basically means “not compatible”. If you look at your “lost chances” and “failures” and all, you may notice that you wouldn’t be happy with any of those women, or you’d have a mediocre relationship plagued with petty squabbles or a feeling of missing something (which the break-up or “rejection” spared). That rejection triggers self-esteem problems and some women don’t have the people skills (or the politeness) to let a man down gently is a different thing (it’s more process than substance).

For the record, I experience the exact same feelings and temptations that you mentioned. I have a knack for narrowly failing too (especially professional exams I really should pass but it does go back to school times) in addition to an epic lack of luck with women (it provides a lot of amusement when sharing tales, so hard to believe is the streak). I know what you’re writing about, and I wish you a speedy recovery from that (temporary!) rut. Go so a counsellor or at least meet up with a friend, get a beer, get a conversation to sort it out. But don’t hesitate to go to a counsellor if you sense that it could be connected to some stuff from the childhood or the like. Those are extremely difficult to get out of alone because people don’t usually know how it works.

Also, personally, I try to avoid thinking about theological implications of it. Too easy to come up with some really stupid thoughts if one isn’t a properly prepared theologian.
