I never heard of this publication before but this guy is living in a dream world…
The European Union, of which the Roman Catholic Church is a significant part, is fast becoming the world’s next superpower. It will be a resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire.
The EU wants nothing to do with Catholicism or Christianity and no way is it fast becoming a superpower! The economies of 2 of the biggest countries in the EU are very weak (socialism tends to do that to you).

This writer is indeed living in a dream world. If there was ever a unity between the Church and the so called Holy Roman Empire it came down decisively in about 1537 when it became clear that the church no longer had temporal authority over secular governments. It is true that it took awhile for vestiges of the empire to die out - probably into the early 19th century - but after 1537 it was curtains.

This man is ignorant of so many basic points of history and common experience that it is difficult to know where to start.

For whatever reasons JPII was praised, it was not for exercising and imposing governmental authority on Catholics. On the contrary, he was viewed by many as a holy man who spoke truely.

However great his popularity may have been, relatively few follow strict church teaching on pivotal issues such as artifical birth control. Even Italy, the home of the church for much of its existence, has an extremely low birthrate, the same is true in Germany.

The writer apparently just hates the Church.

The writer is an Evangelical Christian. Of course, he hates the Church. What’s surprising about that?

Shouldn’t we invite him to the parish to give a homily … in the interest of ecumenical understanding? He’s not bad … he’s just mis-informed. Let’s dialogue with him. If he could just see us all singing Kumbaya he would write nicer things about the Church.

Ecumenical understanding?

Have you much contact with Fundamentalists and hard-core Evangelicals? The don’t want ecumenism, they don’t want dialogue. They reject it. If the Catholic Church is the one instituted by Satan, why would any genuine Christian want to have anything to do with it? They are forever pleading with Catholics to come out of our false Church.

This sounds nice and perty on paper…but the reality is, they hate us! Misinformation for us, but not for them… they believe their truth, and only their truth…:tsktsk:

I have a brother who hates Catholicism…😃 and this does exist.

Evangelicals, Gospelites, Fundamentalists on the whole are rabid in their hate for Catholicism…although you may find one that will listen to you.

It is only the Holy Spirit who can change their mind-set…a true conversion. No human mouth can do so…

I heard on Catholic Answers once that (and I think it is Johnette) all the denominations that exist outside of Catholicism are riddled with a spirit of rebellion and deception. And I fully agree…👍

Blessings,
Shoshana

Exactly so.

There is always a percentage who are actually irenic towards Catholicsm, but they are a real minority.

In fairness to Benedictusoblat, I think that he was merely confusing the writer of that article with actual irenic non-Catholics, some of whom post on this Forum.

What a load of garbage. i couldnt even dignify it enough to read the whole thing. what a lunatic.

Bigot:
One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

[French, from Old French.]

Word History: Bigots may have more in common with God than one might think. Legend has it that Rollo, the first duke of Normandy, refused to kiss the foot of the French king Charles III, uttering the phrase bi got, his borrowing of the assumed Old English equivalent of our expression by God. Although this story is almost surely apocryphal, it is true that bigot was used by the French as a term of abuse for the Normans, but not in a religious sense. Later, however, the word, or very possibly a homonym, was used abusively in French for the Beguines, members of a Roman Catholic lay sisterhood. From the 15th century on Old French bigot meant “an excessively devoted or hypocritical person.” Bigot is first recorded in English in 1598 with the sense “a superstitious hypocrite.”
Note well what denomination they are. Worldwide Church of God. The one founded by Garner Ted Armstrong.
