I am not worried about the Popes salvation I would be worried about anyone associated with this hate speech though.

He’s ignorant of the teachings of the Catholic Church and of history.

That said (and I loved the old Holy Father and believe he’ll be a saint soon, God willing), why is this hate speech per se? This is their creed, their belief. Is Extra Ecclesium Nolo Salus ("Outside the Church there is no salvation) hate speech? As interpreted by some Catholics, it’s pretty harsh. So is it hate speech?

This is the problem they’re having up in Canada: what constitutes hate speech?

Just think how many luke warm Catholics out there that are, and will be influenced by this trash.

Also, by this man’s logic, Dr. Billy Grahm (I can’t spell his name) is in about the boat as HHJPII, as people speak well of him as well. Fact is, tons of people in this world don’t like either of them, because of their values and beliefs.

Anti-Catholic Mike Gendron ( Proclaiming the Gospel) believes that it’s possible John Paul II is not saved, or for that matter, not in heaven.
This article goes down hill from here.

I didn’t read the article, but technically, until he’s canonized, it is possible that he’s was not saved. Since that author probably believes in gittin’ saved while on earth, he means JPII might not have been a Christian, which is bunk of course. In reality though, since we cannot judge the state of someone’s soul, none of us can honestly 100% say for sure whether or not anyone is heaven, until of course they die and make it through the canonization process complete with miracles.

Now that being said, if JPII is not “saved,” I’ll buy that guy a steak dinner.

If you’re talking 100% certainty, agreed. We could have all been deceived. But the Sriptures say,“By their fruits shall ye know them.” Based on that, I’d say John Paul the Great is doing alright.

I heard the same kind of drivil about Mother Teresa when she died. One of the “preachers” in a Baptist church lamented at how sad it was that Morther Teresa was not in heaven, but probably in hell.

I totally agree. I was just pointing out in the technical sense we don’t know, which is why praying for the dead is always important, no matter how great they were:thumbsup:

I pray for him every night! I wonder how many Catholics around the world have obtained for the old Holy Father a plenary indulgence. I bet tons. Still, you’re right.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
And let prepetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed forever
Rest in peace.

Hmmm, something tells me Our Lady has been doing some interceding for Him too. I doubt he stayed past the first Saturday in Purgatory, if you know what I mean 😉 (if he was there at all…)

Well if we are uncertain of the pope’s salvation(some of you seem to think it is a possibility)YOU better get on your knees tonight and pray for your own soul because if you have even a DOUBT the pope didn’t make it what does it say for the countless billions who never professed Christ as their savior in past generations, this present generation, and future generations. This man did more for humanity than thousands-and you are questioning if he made it to heaven. Some of you are comical!

I do every day–and I ask every saint I can think of to pray with me:thumbsup:

I don’t think anyone doubts that he’s in Heaven, but the point was that just as we can’t be assured of our own salvation, we can’t be assured of someone elses until they enter Heaven and they are canonized.

John Paul fought the good fight till the very end and showed us how to live and die with dignity-How many people who were saying’he should step down"got to see a TRUE christian finish the race so to speak in a truely Christ like way,not giving into the masses and leading and giving everything he had to Christ’s church. He accepted all forms of suffering and knew it was beneficial for others salvation. If he’s not in heaven, there must be like only 20 people in heaven from the past to the present-He was a true disciple!

I was not speaking of hate speech as defined by the ACLU or the liberal Canadian government but rather as one christian brother speaking of another christian brother’s passing.
His comments were mean spirited and cruel and vile and full of hate. John Paul was the most ecunemical of all popes and stated his view of them as seperated brethren and part of the church albeitly imperfectly and with certain qualifications.
The Church has been quite clear since Vatican 2 that protestants are not responsible for their initial situation outside of the church and are not anathema by their own doing but rather circumstance and they are brother and sisters in Christ.

The author is quite young and has only known the ecunemical catholic church of vatican 2 so this (No Salavation Outside the Church) is not the man’s hangup but rather his hate for a fellow christian enough to condemn one to hell. THis is something no real christian wants to see another christian go through and really he doesn’t want to see his worst enemy go though regardless of religious afiliation.
The ecunemical overature of our recent popes and councils have not abated some of the church’s most fundamentilist enemies so I think your argument doesn’t hold water I stand by my statement his voice is one of hate.

And this little Methodist girl will mortgage the farm & buy the guy a new car…
Seriously, that is dreadful!! He should be ashamed to talk that way about someone who was, IMHO, one of God’s great men!!!

I make no argument. I merely observed that there are Catholics who take an very conservative interpretation of EENS (I don’t). We ought not be surprised when others feel the same. I agree that it’s hateful, but if you tried to reason with him, he would tell you that he is only interested in the salvation of souls. Again, my point is we should not be surprised.
