If Church officials worried about the corruption and perdition of souls as much as they fret about “tolerance” and “collegiality,” they would end this disgusting farce and suspend Weakland’s faculties. Instead, they sit on their hands as Weakland, outfitted in his priestly collar, grants interviews to news outlets about the glories of mortal sin.
What will Rome/Vatican do?

The facdt the reviewer said these things shows he didn’t understand what Abp. Weakland was trying to say.

Why do some people feel morally superior ot homosexuals?

The retired archbishop of Milwaukee released June 15 his autobiography, A Pilgrim in a Pilgrim Church: Memoirs of a Catholic Archbishop. In it he admits to several affairs with men, crowns himself the first voluntarily “out” bishop, and argues that the Church should endorse the “physical, genital expression” of homosexuality
Makes me wonder where exactly he thinks he is on a pilgramage to. It might not be the destination he was expecting!

Sin. Dulling the intellect and weakening the will for over 6000 years.

An equal opportunity corruptor.

Why do some people feel morally superior ot homosexuals?
Not feeling superior, but condemning homosexuality because it is intrinsically disordered. Responsible Catholics never condemn the person but the abuse of the beautiful gift of sexuality, reserved between a man and a woman when married.

An individual with such tendencies must live a chase life if really is in his pilgrimage to Heaven

“It sounds like an over-the-top Tom Wolfe novel: a successor to the apostles conducts an affair with a male graduate student, is accused of “date rape” and emotional harm by said student, and raids the collection basket of the faithful to hush the student up, then, as the bishop settles into a cushy retirement, he pens a “coming out” memoir in praise of homosexual behavior, all the while retaining the canonical rights and privileges of a retired archbishop and receiving pats on the back from fellow clergy.”

Just an opinion: I think this guy chose the wrong vocation in life.

Bishop Weaklands main sin is not his homosexual tendnecies. His sins are based on hubris and pride. The man is no hero. He stole $450,000 dollars from the collection plates of the hard working blue collar faithful to pay off a blackmailer preying on his sexual indisrecretions. Thoughout his ordination he willfully practiced the mortal sins of sodomy and fornication. His personal corruption was translated to his authority as Bishop as he worked tirelessly to undermine the teachings and moral authority of the Church. For example he worked tirelessly to introduce profane music into the Mass. On this he succeeded. Now he whines and preens before the Godless, atheisitc, anti-Christian New York Times in full knowledge that he will receive his adoration from the fallen. You can bet he will be on the Ophrah and Bill Maher talk shows seeking the glow of the blue flame. There are very admirable persons who have homosexual tendencies but they don’t dance to the antiChrist with smug pride while loudly praising sin and rebellion. They repent of their sin in organizations like Exodus International and Pastoral Care Ministries.

From the article
Notice he doesn’t mention the most obvious consequence of coming clean to Rome: he would have had to resign.
I had to LOL at that one. The author the article either doesn’t spend much time in Rome’s clerical circles or he does so with his hands over his ears.
There’s plenty of stories of bishops, archbishops, and cardinals who had affairs with men and women and continued to serve in their diocese with the full knowledge of members of the Vatican.
Now should those stories become public then the Vatican would ask them to resign, but until that point the Vatican wouldn’t want people/press sniffing around as to the reason for a sudden departure.

What a wonderful summation!

The Church has had a number of disreputable bishops, including some popes (e.g. Julius II, Alexander VI.) Weakland was involved in the child sexual abuse disasters but he wasn’t alone among the bishops. While I view what I have read about the autobiography with sadness because of its apparent approval of old fashioned lust, I am not dismayed by it. It is just another bad actor making a stink. We’ll always have them with us.
