I think It’s a matter of taste. Even the one above St Faustina’s tomb in Poland is the Hyla version, not the original. And I think Pope John Paul II was always pictured with the Hyla.
I think the reason there are so many versions is because St Faustina was terribly disappointed with the original one and she even wept about it. That’s when Jesus said that the greatness of the image is not in the beauty of the color, nor of the brush, but in His grace that we receive, thus the signature “Jesus I Trust in You” is the key, being that Jesus said the more we trust the more graces we receive. no matter which version of the image one prefers, it is all about the words Jesus I trust in you
I think that people that get caught up arguing about the technicalities of the image are missing the point of the whole devotion. If any of the images is displayed and it inspires the devotion to the Divine Mercy then it is bringing the graces Jesus promised; it’s all about trust. There are many other versions, here are some others:
