Again, you’re trying to set Christ against His Body. Ain’t gonna fly.
No. I’m asking a simple question. Who sent Paul and by what authority did he write his letters?

How about lets stay in Acts and discuss the original text I brought up. Not drive off to another place.Paul had to be tested to see if he was for real, just like anyone else. As he said:
[BIBLEDRB]2 Corinthians 8:22[/BIBLEDRB]
I wasn’t out to convince you of anything except that the disciples at Jerusalem did not allow Paul to join them until after Barnabas convinced them other wise. And the authority of the apostles – obviously that was given to them by Christ as was St. Paul. Christ gave the same authority to St. Peter to be the human foundation of the Church. The Church was, through, the Apostles founded by Christ and sustained by the Holy Spirit, who at the Epiclesus turns the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, Who forgives sins, heals, directs, sanctifies.
Cruisin, If the Catholic Church was not founded by Jesus Christ, like Paul, we wouldn’t be here…or you!
You can’t prove anything with one Bible remark against another…we already know them. You are missing the whole testimony of the Church in how the Word of God was incarnated among the believers, and what happened with each generation.
The Word Made Flesh.
Cat Herder;7104147:
Paul got his authority from the Jesus – and in Acts 9:4-5, Jesus equates the CHURCH with himself:Again, you’re trying to set Christ against His Body. Ain’t gonna fly.

“He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting ME?"
He said, “Who are you, sir?” The reply came, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”
Saul was persecuting the CHURCH – yet Jesus said HE was being persecuted because he and his Church are inseperable.
We see later in Acts 15:24-33 that those sent out to preach and teach – had to be sent out by the CHURCH.
[BIBLEDRB]2 Timothy 3:16-17[/BIBLEDRB]How about lets stay in Acts and discuss the original text I brought up. Not drive off to another place.
Maybe you should ask Paul?Agreed, Paul gets His authority from Christ.
Don’t see any introductions in His letters that says By the Authority given to me by the Church who is Christ. maybe I’m just missing them.
[BIBLEDRB]1 Timothy 1:1-2[/BIBLEDRB]Maybe you should ask Paul?
[BIBLEDRB]1 Timothy 3:14-16[/BIBLEDRB]
The Roman Empire crumbled while Catholicism continued to thrive. One could argue becoming the official religion of the Roman empire definitely gave the RCC a huge advantage to grow.
I do think this quickly made Roman Catholics the ‘biggest kid on the schoolyard’
Ummm . . . you’re leaving out the part where he calls that Church the “pillar and foundation of truth”. Therein lies the Authority.[bibledrb]1 Timothy 1:1-2[/bibledrb]
Nope doesn’t work.
no Church authority here. only by the authority of God and Christ
he is writing this so Timothy knows how to conduct himself in the House of God.
which is the assembly of the living God.
No church authority for Paul, eh?[BIBLEDRB]1 Timothy 1:1-2[/BIBLEDRB]

Yes, we all agree the early Christians were persecuated by Rome, for 300 years. The Roman Empire crumbled while Catholicism continued to thrive.
In fact, Catholicism held civilization together in Europe throughout the middle ages.
Christianity didn’t become the official religion of the Roman Empire until the empire was near collapse, so I don’t think your point has much relevance.
For most of Christian history under Rome the Church was persecuted.
Exactly! Why would God exclude His Church with all of His Truth, but only bind it to written words (aka the Bible)?Ummm . . . you’re leaving out the part where he calls that Church the “pillar and foundation of truth”. Therein lies the Authority.
Only TWO entities in ALL of Scripture (OT & NT) are referred to as the TRUTH:
God and his Church.
Actually, several things are called the truth but the Church is not one of themUmmm . . . you’re leaving out the part where he calls that Church the “pillar and foundation of truth”. Therein lies the Authority.
Only TWO entities in ALL of Scripture (OT & NT) are referred to as the TRUTH:
God and his Church.
Come again? You mean Christ founded His Church with no promise of teaching the Truth?Actually, several things are called the truth but the Church is not one of them
God’s law Psalm 119:142
God’s commandments Psalm 119:151
God’s word John 17:17
The Spirit 1 John 5:6
In Timothy the Church is called the pillar and foundation **of **the truth, not the truth.
Scripture is the word of God. John 17:17 says God’s word is truth, so Scripture is truth. The Church may or may not teach truth depending on whether you accept the Catholic Church’s claim…Come again? You mean Christ founded His Church with no promise of teaching the Truth?
Explain how you manage to separate the Truth from Christ Church? Using your argument would be like saying scripture is OF the truth, not the truth.
