The earth is only 6000 years old (II)

A counter-argument could be that you are trying to force-fit genetics data into a YEC paradigm, one in which there is the added feature of a biological Big Bang.
Phenotypical and genetic evidence are showing the same thing. The fossil record shows the same thing. If it walks like a duck…

IDvolution is the solution to the flaws of evolution.🙂

I find it again relevant to stress that not believing the earth is billions of years old will lead to no catastrophes. The mind of man has been turned into an idol for some, aided and abetted by the Great Nothing that made them. Genes that self-upgraded along with a mind that did the same.

Can anyone say Technocracy? And while you ponder that thought, keep in mind that what some call human nature means that anyone who lives in such a state will likely not be treated very well. The Elite look after the elite and not the peasants.

God bless,
Ed
I like your explanation of the Big Bang and the little man behind the curtain. Being a mere peasant I never did understand descent from a common ancestor. Now you have made it much clearer:

We came from the Great Nothing that made the genes that self-upgraded themselves into we the people over eons of time.

**Dawkins couldn’t have said it any better! 😉 **

Hugh,

After reading Signature in the Cell, which believe me, I was thoroughly conditioned to believe would be no good, I now see the argument for ID. It’s not just a “it’s too complicated” issue, but a, we know where specified functional codes come from, reality. The way the information is stored in the genome is very similar to the way computers, which we know are intelligently designed, access and store information.

Of course, this has certain people shaking in their boots, especially those who see all this as some sort of power struggle. And I’m tired of seeing Popes being quoted here as justification for some scientific fact. ‘Your Pope believes it too’ is not my idea of a scientific argument. In fact, Pope Benedict has stated that “the theory of evolution is not a complete, scientifically proven theory.” Which is usually followed by comments like ‘nothing is ever proven in science.’ Really? That does not fill me with much confidence regarding this subject. It ignores the fact that if I pour chemical A into a beaker with some chemical B, a color change will occur every time. Every time.

Who knows. We may see the collapse of the current version of that theory.

God bless,
Ed

I know that you are not a YEC and I was not joking about your views. However, you sound a little too thin-skinned. You need not take it personally that I joke about the absurdity of YEC.
Furthermore, it says something about how much one values his own opinions over truth when he is more concerned about some mockery of fundamentalist creationism rather than the mockery that fundamentalist creationism brings on the Church and Bible.
Mocking YEC or fundamentalist creationism is one thing. Mocking God Himself is unacceptable in any scenario including post 1373.

Slide 9 -

and…
Darwin’s Predictions

Scientists comparing the genomes of members of the three domains of life—archaea, bacteria, and the eukaryotes (animals, plants, fungi, and protists)—have discovered about 500 genes that all living things share. These “immortal” genes have survived essentially unchanged for over two billion years (including the portion of a protein’s sequence seen here, with shared amino acids indicated by shading). Says Brown’s Ken Miller: “Despite the extraordinary diversity of life, all living organisms share a nearly identical set of essential genes, reflecting their evolutionary development from a common ancestor.”
So, K. Miller thinks the core hypothesis has been proven. Good enough. I had thought the matter was still questionable. I can now use the updated information in my own theory of origins. Thanks.

The “Slide 9” link isn’t working for me. I’ll try it again later.

I am standing with the experts! These include (1) Ph.D. physicists who operate the radiocarbon dating labs. (2) The archaeologists who have discovered distinct dinosaur depictions by their fellow human ancestors world-wide and those who understand that soft tissue and collagen do not last more than 1000’s of years not 10’s of millions.
Can you name some of them? Remember, they can’t be “scientists” who purchased their “PhDs”, like Kent Hovind.

1. Do you have links showing “distinct dinosaur depictions by their fellow human ancestors”?

2. Who claims to have found (presumably dinosaur) soft tissue and collagen?

Are you thinking of the popular misrepresentations of Dr. Schweitzer’s work? If so, note that “Dr. Schweitzer is not making any grand claims that these soft traces are the degraded remnants of the original material - only that they give that appearance.”

And Prof. Matthew Collins, an expert in molecular paleontology said, “This may not be fossilisation as we know it, of large macrostructures, but fossilisation at a molecular level. My suspicion is this process has led to the reaction of more resistant molecules with the normal proteins and carbohydrates which make up these cellular structures, and replaced them, so that we have a very tough, resistant, very lipid-rich material - a polymer that would be very difficult to break down and characterise, but which has preserved the structure.”

And, there is much more to say about all of this…

The Hindus invented zero so they should have number 0 which puts them before number one. And weren’t the Jews there before any of the Christians? 🙂

Hello,

I have a question I have been wanting to ask a Buddist; it is off topic, so it will be the only post. Please answer in as much detail as you can or care to…thanks so much.

Question: What do buddist think of or speak about concerning Mary, the birth mother of Jesus?

Thanks and God bless?

Beth

No Jurassic Park…

“Hendrik Poinar of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, cautions that looks can deceive: Nucleated protozoan cells have been found in 225-million-year-old amber, but geochemical tests revealed that the nuclei had been replaced with resin compounds. Even the resilience of the vessels may be deceptive. Flexible fossils of colonial marine organisms called graptolites have been recovered from 440-million-year-old rocks, but the original material–likely collagen–had not survived.” (Science, vol. 307:1852)

We do not. Jesus is usually seen as a Bodhisattva - one level below a Buddha and someone who will become a Buddha in a future life. There is nothing particularly special about being the mother of a Bodhisattva.

The Buddha’s own mother died shortly after he was born so she does not figure largely in the scriptures. He was raised by his aunt who later joined the order of nuns as one of its first members.

Thanks Rossum; I know I said an only post, but I want to follow-up; do they have respect for Jesus mother, not revereance, but respect? Promise- no more questions…thanks. That was interesting to see that his aunt was one of the first nuns; that would be a Catholic nun…right? I don’t know if there exists any other type…LOL

PS Any truth to this LINK?

No, there are Buddhist nuns – we have them in my city, and I’ve met them elsewhere.

"A nun is a woman who has taken special vows committing her to a religious life. She may be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live her life in prayer and contemplation in a monastery or convent. The term “nun” is applicable to Catholics – both eastern and western traditions – Orthodox Christians, Anglicans, Lutherans, Jains, Buddhists, and Taoists. While in common usage the terms nun and sister are often used interchangeably, in some cases they are differentiated, a nun being a religious female who lives a contemplative cloistered life of prayer and meditation, while a sister, in the Christian religions, lives an active vocation of service to the needy, sick, poor, and uneducated. "

Not especially, she is just another human being and worthy of the respect that is due to any human being.

No, there are three types: Catholic Buddhist nuns, Orthodox Buddhist nuns and Protestant Buddhist nuns. 😃

Yes. When the Japanese were persecuting Christianity the underground Christians adapted a version of Kannon (the Bodhisattva Avalokita) to make it look as if they were Buddhists when they were actually Christians. There is a picture at: Maria-Kannon.

Thank you, Hugh.

Your information points to problems that some just wish to ignore. In my view, the current biggest scandal in science is that it has been taken over by an ultra-orthodox worldview that it seeks to impose on all nonbelievers. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed signs of a carefully planned propaganda program.

Shame the nonbeliever into thinking that his or her dissenting view(s) somehow mock the Church.

Quote saints and Popes to promote the purely ideological worldview that is loosely based on science.

Convince the public that nontheists and secularists only speak for themselves and not as a group. I can provide a list of nontheist, secularist, bright, free thinker and humanist groups that are local and global in nature.

Convince the public that rejection of a few scientific ideas represents the rejection of critical thinking, logic and reason itself. This is a purely emotional claim and is not based on those three concepts.

Convince people that anyone who disagrees is a Christian Extremist and a Terrorist who is, ‘in fact’ against the economic success of the United States in the global economy.

Make people forget that airplanes, cars, computers and electronic devices are designed by people without any need to refer to biology.

Publish blatant propaganda and tell people to ignore it. “Move along. Nothing to see here.” While, at the same time, supporting such propaganda. One example, a billboard with the words: “Praise Darwin. Evolve beyond belief.” In other words, pay money to try to convince people that The Truth does not exist. And then they say, with a straight face, that “science” explains the how but not the why. That is 100% False, because the NCIS and others believe and promote the idea that the Great Nothing made us. And they do nothing about those who take “science” and use it for their campaign of spreading unbelief. The Average American is right to have suspicions about what “science” has become.

Finally, we have “evolutionary psychology” which tells us the story of how our brains accidentally got bigger and how our genes actually got more complicated, and how we went through a religion/belief/god(s) process as part of our non-God development.

Thanks again,
Ed
